But from start to finish, this was truly the best episode hands down: Bran getting attacked and saved by Theon. Viserys trying to steal the dragon eggs ("I need a large army!") and then getting crowned. Arya working with Syrio ("What do we say to death? Not today.") and then saying "Seven hells" to Sansa while she rambled about the greatness of Joffrey.Robert "honoring" Cersei.Bronn taking down Vardis Egen ("You don't fight with honor!" It was the episode that made me have to go back and re-watch all the other episodes (thank you HBO On Demand) as well as ramp up my reading of the first book. The "crowning" really got my attention. The hairy bear Posted June 29, 2011 Share Posted June 29, 2011 While I certainly loved "A Golden Crown", IMO the best episode was another one: it included both of the best scenes added for the show (Littlefinger vs. Varys, Robert vs. Cersei), the best fights of the series (Sandor vs. Gregor, the hillmen, and Starks vs Lannisters), the disturbing sweetrobin sucking Lysa's teat, the views from the sky cells, and amazing dialog.I could have done without the Kraken's tentacle and Ross, but no episode is perfect. :P Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

And book-wise that was a one-time thing. If Dany walks into another fire she will get burned. Whether the TV show makes her permanently immune to fire is an open question. I hope not. I think she should get mildly burned early next season and have some mystical person say that it was the whole incubation of the dragon eggs thing that gave her immunity. Now that the eggs are hatched she's no more immune than Viserys: i.e. you're not that special.What was in each episode specifically is becoming a bit of a blur to me. I can't stop wondering why.Viserys wasn't given the dragon eggs as a gift, so he wasn't around them enough to even have a chance to form the connection Dany did. Also, Dany emotionally had a hard time with her marriage and was in lot of pain. Being so emotionally vulnerable, she found a way of coping as the eggs provided her with a way to tap into her inner strength. If anyone has insight, please fill me in!I was always under the assumption that the reason Dany is impervious to fire is because she has the blood of the dragon. Not Viserys as he assumes. "Fire and Blood", it was fantastic (Sansa, Joff and Sandor Clegane; Dany&Drogo; Cat&Jaime; Tywin and 'They HAVE my son'; Jon & guys from Night's Watch, Jon and Mormont, last but not least: dragons). But now that have read all the books i have to go with the fist episode. I mean how can you not love seeing the entire stark family together for the last. Winterfell full of Starks, Lannisters, King Robert and Benjen as a true retrospective i love the first episode everyone being together in one place before their journeys begin is amazing. To be totally I honest I felt the first episode was the weakest one, it only ended well. I watched it this week with my partner who has never read the books and he sort of rolled his eyes as if to say "what's the big deal?"We watched the next 3 episodes back to back and even though we'd stayed up late and had work in the morning he was giving me the "come on, just one more" speech. We haven't watched episode 10 yet but after Baelor he was shocked and apalled at Ned's death I gave him no hints, no warnings - it was beautiful to hear him rage about Joffrey the way I did all those years ago when my dad recommended the first book. Are there hints earlier that I have missed that suggest her immunity to heat/fire lasted only through the dragons' gestation? I thought it was as another poster mentioned, that she has the Targaryan genetic disposition toward dragon, while Viserys didn't, and while previous Targs who drank wildfire and such didn't. Hunter Posted November 29, 2011 Share Posted November 29, 2011 Now that I read all 5 books and to witness the journeys of all these great characters, for me the greatest nostalgic moment is the beheading scene in episode 1 as well. Just the wide shot of the entire stark family, ser rodrick, theon, jorrey, standing on the misty hill with Ned Stark holding Ice is special to me. To me "Fire and Blood," wasn't that good of an episode (except for the Dragons). Dany eating the heart of the horse and then giving her fantastic speech about the horse lord that rides within her2 Dany's brother getting crowned3. Robert and Cersei's talk about Dany and their marriage. - which was added on by the HBO writers - but I thought it gave such great depth to the King and Queen.4. Arya's Dance Teacher fight scene with the Lannister soldiers5. Arya coming face to face with the Dragon skull6. Jon giving Needle to Arya7. Beheading of Ned Stark8. House Baratheon and Lannister's entrance to Winterfell9. Catelyn's capture of Tyrion - marvelous speech too. I think it was a dumb thing to do - but it looked pretty good on screen.10.
