Now, because of the battle between the Mountain and the Red Viper, I've always hoped that they would cast the Dornish as East Asian, particularly Chinese.  If you've seen any Chinese period piece movies, their action starts are often able to use a spear like the Viper does.  But I'm not averse to a South Asian looking kingdom, either.

I always imagined them to be Southern European to, But what about South Americans? Sounds like a good alternative for me. Bit darker, exotic, etc.

I agree. I've always seen Dorne as something like Brazil, actually, with all the different climates and "races" (or whatever the best word in English is). I mean, go around anywhere in Brazil, and you'll see people ranging from the palest skin to the darkest, and a mixture of features that just adds to it.

Ghassan Massoud as either Prince Doran or Oberyn, perhaps; he's good-looking and has considerable gravitas. Nestor Carboneli could do Oberyn, though I'm not sure he's got enough bite. He's certainly cute enough. Faran Tahir might do well as Oberyn. http://en.wikipedia....Ghassan_Massoud http://en.wikipedia....iki/Faran_Tahir

I was just re-watching Kingdom of Heaven (if you ever watch this, make sure to watch the Director's Cut. They butchered this film for the theatrical release) this weekend and totally saw Massoud as Doran. He could absolutely carry off the seriousness of the part. He was amazing as Saladin.

It hasn't been mentioned, I think, but GRRM has said that when he wrote Arianne, he was thinking something more like Apollonia. Google her (it's SFW, promise!) to get a sense of what she looked like back in the 80's when she was in Prince's orbit. She's Hispanic.
Love Prince. Love Apollonia. This makes me love Arianne all the more, knowing who his inspiration was.

Ahh, and here is GRRM's comment on the topic -- actually revealed it in response to my hopes that Arianne was inspired by Salma Hayek. ;)

Well, to start the only Dornish we have to worry about is Oberyn, if he appears next season... I dont think he will, he may be talked about season 3 but I guess the character will only appear in flesh S4, so we have some time ahead.

Oh boy, I'd go with a young Salma as well. Short, buxom, beautiful, and fiery, just like Arianne.

Heard a few people throw around Ben Kingsley as Doran. Not that I particularly want to see it, but I could see the series going this way. I think they could afford him. Non-readers would enjoy as well.

I caught this awful movie on TV today, called "The Last Legion". It was bad, but it had Kingsley in it. As well as the actors who play: Jeor Mormont, Jorah Mormont, Aliser Thorne, Xaro Xhoan Daxos, Craster, maybe more, I don't recall.

I actually checked the casting crew and producers, but no matches no GoT (I know there are a lot of other productions-particularly British which feature a lot of the actors from the series). I could also see one of the actors, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan playing Arianne or a SS.

Javier Bardem would be a perfect cast for Oberyn Martell :)

I know that Arianne won't appear for another two seasons, but yesterday I was watching HIMYM and I thought Nazanin Boniadi would be great for the part. And she's British too.

Since we're talking Dorne casting, Cas Anvar got to audition! Some talking about Daario but he seems more Viper to my eyes! http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0031679/

Oh Gods, I remember that movie. It's an abomination to be sure...
But I didn't know so many actors from GoT were in the Last Legion. Interesting.

Cas Anvar definitly doesnt look Oberyn for me...

I see Oberyn more as a mediterranean Robert Downey Junior.
