I wouldve liked Tony Iommi to play Mance. He has cancer now though. not only is Iommi a musician like Mance, he has the look of a man of the Watch with the eyes of a wildling. He has Mance's frown and smile. Put this man in a black cloak slashed with red and you have The King Beyond the Wall!

I started reading ASOS a few days ago and can't help but picture Mance as Henry Ian Cusick. Loved him on Lost. Think he'd have no problem pulling off the role of Mance. Has the charisma for sure.

That would be all kinds of awesome. Doesn't really have an acting background though.

I always had the mental image of Phil Collins with a shaved head just because Mance known for his singing, and I thought he would have a british accent and look pretty haggard due to living north of the wall.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for Henry Ian Cusick (Lost's Desmond). He just IS Mance for me! And he's such a terrific actor that deserves a role worthy of his talents.

I was flipping channels yesterday and I saw him during some coverage of Comicon, and thought "jackpot!" But he was there for some other project. :(

My choice for Mance would be James Nesbitt

Bad news for all James Purefoy fans(cant remember this being mentioned here before) but he's got a pretty big part in the Upcoming 'Fox' Series 'The Following' alongside Kevin Bacon which will most likely take alot of time from his schedule. Bitter bitter moment for myself when I found this out as he seems like a brilliant Mance I've always viewed him as Mance in my head. Also he is very against being typecast and may be looking to avoid historical period drama following Rome, Solomon Kane and Ironclad never mind his fantastic and all too shortlived turn as King lot in Camelot. 'Sigh' Still hope remains for Henry Ian Cusick.

Either way Cussack or Purefoy. However I doubt any of them will be casted.

I think there's a reason he hasn't taken off his mask, but I could wrong.

Just watched Centurion and Dominic West was fairly badass in it so he gets my vote for Mance

Dominic West for me too.

I think that Michael Fassbender would have made a superb mance.

Are people forgetting that Purefoy is in a TV series already?  Or is the thought that perhaps, if there is a break in his schedule in the other show, he can do this show?

I like Henry Ian Cusick or Rufus Sewell, these are recognizable faces/names, but not too big enough where they would swallow the role.

He's just successfully appeared as Mowbray in the BBC adaptation of Richard II which was filmed towards the end of last year and, while that was a one off production, I don't see that him appearing in something else would automatically rule him out. I think it's more likely he may wish to avoid (although I see no evidence given what he's been in recently) type casting in historical medieval style drama.
