Hi!!

Anyone out of state going to Bubonicon 43 this year?  I will be visiting from Atlanta GA and hoping to get a sighting of George and John Picacio.

Here's the link to the convention website for folks to check out:

http://bubonicon.com/

Please note that there will be a maximum of 650 people allowed as attendees, due to fire safety regulations and hotel capacity.

There's going to be a lot of writers attending - many of the SW WILD CARDS writers are regulars at Bubonicon, so it's a great place to get multiple sigs on your WILD CARDS books.

One of our favorite specialist book dealers, Elsewhere Books of Denver will be there, and they always have an excellent selection of both mass-market and limited/first editions of many titles to offer, and the venerable Albuquerque bookstore, Page One, will have a table as well, so please, if you're attending, do stop by those folks tables and pick up a book or two from our own dealers and stores.

I can assure you that both dealers will have plenty of copies of the books by the GoH and the New Mexican writers who attend, so you don't have to search out special titles to pack in your luggage or car if you're coming to Bubonicon.

Hope to see you all there!

I plan on going as well.

Parris, do you know if you and George will be doing any get togethers with BWBers or others?

I'm creating itinerary as I speak.

Oddly enough, it seems there's no active BwBers in the Albuquerque area to host a party at Bubonicon.

There are several events we're already committed to, since both the GoH and AGoH are friends and colleagues.

The main signing event is held on Saturday - and it is an event with dozens of writers participating - that will be the only time to get George's signature on books during the convention, since our schedule is so filled with both business and personal events, George won't be able to linger after panels to sign books.

Have no idea what other panels and events George will be doing, haven't seen his schedule yet from the concom.

We do have private dinners planned for both nights at the convention, plan to attend parties later in the evening after our return.

If anyone is planning on hosting a party please read the info on the convention website about the hotel and convention party policies - parties can only be held on the second floor, with the approval of the hotel and concom.

One of the issues we need to deal with this final year is that this hotel is closest to the airport, so many flight crews stay at the hotel. This requires we respect the other guests needs for quiet and calm on their floors.

The Bubonicon concom is looking for a new hotel with function space and room to grow in 2012, I hope they'll be able to announce what hotel they've selected during this year's con.

Thank you Parris.  I look forward to hopefully meeting you as well.

Do you know if the same rules apply when George will be signing Saturday afternoon regarding personalized inscriptions, or since it is a smaller con, will there be more leeway in that regard?

I'll have to check with George and the concom about this - my hope is that the 'rules' wont' be so stringent, although there will probably be a standard limit on how many items you can get signed on one go round in George's line.

hope I can get more info to you soon.

I'm thinking about driving down for this.

Let me know if any parties are planned, i'd love to attend them.

Make sure you guys clear any 'official' BwB gatherings with Stego.. he get's a little touchy about such things.

Kind of a funny setup though.  Does anyone think they will pop the 650 mark?  I'd hate to drive down from the Springs if i can't get in.  Seems a little odd you can't pre register either.

Look forward to seeing the ABQ representing.

Looks like Bubonicon schedule has been posted for those interested.
Looks like GRRM has only three appearances in total...I wish he would read the same chapter from TWOW as I can't make Renovation this year.

Bubonicon 43 schedule

My wife and I will be in Albuquerque from Thursday afternoon to Sunday night...maybe we can meet up with anyone else attending.

I'll be there.  And I can sometimes be convinced to host parties at my house.  It's five minutes from the con site.

Any BWB member can throw a BWB event at any time. What I ask that folks don't do without asking is incur a debt or liability in our name.

A party at Bubonicon sounds awesome. I wish I could go.

Hey Stego,

I/we understand the honor of having BWB attached to any event and wouldn't dare risk bringing scorn to the group.  I don't think anyone imagines that there will be a large enough group to try to host an "official" party...just an opportunity for a few to get together for drinks or whatever.  We're staying in the Courtyard by the airport Thu-Fri and the Sheration Sat-Sun.

Right now, our plans are the Botanical Gardens/Aquarium on Thursday afternoon, Sandia Peak Tram that evening and dinner at High Finance around 7 or so.  Friday morning, we're going to the zoo and then to the con that afternoon. Saturday...all day at the con.  Sunday lounging around...maybe a day spa late that afternoon.

If you want to get in touch with me...my email is dunkandegg at yahoo.

Good to meet you and Ofelia yesterday, man. To all BWBers -- I'm doing a panel with George at 12noon in Bandelier about the making of the 2012 ASoIaF Calendar. Will have more material than my show at Worldcon. And then at 3pm in Bandelier -- I do my own slideshow about recent cover art and process. Free promos to all at both events. 4pm is the mass autographing. I think that's a good time for any BWBers to rally up and we can talk about getting together tonight. I've got a dinner at 9:30p. My schedule's open for drinks from 7p to 8:30p. Track me down at the bar if you like.

Had a great time and now heading back to Atlanta!  Especially found George and John's panels to be very interesting (despite technical glitches!). And, enjoyed George's reading!

Just a little irritated that someone bought The 13th Reality before I got to the Art Room!

Sorry to have missed you eveleal.  I've had a great time as well...met some really nice people...sat down with Ty and John for a bit and learned some interesting things from both.  Really great guys, both of them.

Parris was really sweet as well...get some R&R...you deserve it!  Thank you again for the trinkets; that was very sweet.

George was accommodating as well...very busy but still looked relaxed.  Not sure why I felt stagefright when first meeting him.  Hope to be in San Antonio in 2013(can't make Chicon next year  :ohwell:

Heading back to Texas tomorrow, but had a great visit to NM.

Yes, it was Ariene...not sure if it was verbatim at Worldcon, but it sounded much like the reports I've read here as if it were very close to the same.

How people can write as detailed summaries as they can amazes me...I could only manage to outline it.

D --

Great to meet you and Ofelia. Good times. Glad we got a chance to visit a while, but sorry I missed you Sunday night. Got back to the hotel later than I thought. Just posted a few words about Bubonicon. Terrific con. Had great times with GRRM and Parris.

Eveleal -- Sorry about the 13th Reality. Yeah, that one went quickly! Did we cross paths in person besides you attending the panels?
