He's too old to be the Red Viper! The Red Viper needs to be proper badass!... Perhaps Doran Martell..

Yea, I agree he's a little too old to play the Red Viper...maybe Randyll Tarly? Or Sallador Saan?

Balon will probably have 5 min total screen time IMO, so I doubt McShane would be taken for such a role. And how old is Oberyn? All I remember about his age is he and Elia were looking to wed someone when Tyrion was born.

EDIT: This says that he is 40. McShane may not look 40, but I think he could be made to look early 50s, late 40s. It would not be too far off considering how they age actors a bit. Tywin Lannister is in his mid-late 50s, but Charles Dance is in his mid 60s.

Really? Roose's ultra-thin. Ian isn't! Plus of course Roose's been cast already.

Ian McShane should play everyone.  Seriously.  I once saw Patrick Stewart do A Christmas Carol all by himself (it was a one-man off-broadway show in NYC).  If he can do it, McShane can play every character.  He can even have sex with himself while expostulating!

I almost don't care - as long as he plays somebody.  He's *awesome*.

While riding Hodor the Dragon and being an Other AND being the King of Westeros.

But let's get serious. All us fans want McShane, he has been on TV a lot, including HBO, so it is a definite possibility. And we know that the creators of the show pay attention to these forums and take fans' thoughts on casting (Drogo).

I think he'd make a pretty good Tormund Giantsbane myself.

minor roles but i could see him being cotter pyke or euron. either that or make him one of the more badass iron islanders like dagmer cleftjaw or nute the barber.

Has Damphair been cast yet? He might make a good Damphair. But, as everyone knows, I think he'd be perfect for Oberyn.

Milgod morghulis,

The guy that they cast as Roose, if I knew nothing about the casting of GoT and someone handed me his picture and asked me to tell them who he was cast as in GoT, I would say Roose Bolton without hesitation.  If someone handed me Ian McShane's picture Roose Bolton would be towards the end of the list of characters I'd guess.

As looks, not Roose. But McShane does have that powerful voice without being loud, which is Roose Bolton's main characteristic. Either way, he is cast so let's stay on topic.

Judging from his Waleran, which was pure awesome, he'd rock.

But his age and dark colours limit it.

Euron looks way younger than his age and is sexy.
Oberyn is slim and agile and 40ish.

I could imagine Doran but I always saw Doran with a nice, pleasant face which doesn't betray the big player of the game he is. McShane screams "CLAUDE FROLLO" to me.

Maybe he could play Qyburn? Not a huge part, but he could pull it off. There aren't a lot of new parts available that would suit him unfortunately. There's Thoros, but McShane doesn't fit that one that well.

Tormund.  Guys name is Tall-Talker.  GRRM needs to write in a few Swearingen c**ksuckers, and we're golden.

I could see Tormund. One of the reasons I want him as Oberyn is cause he isn't in it very long. I can't see McShane doing multiple seasons of this show.

I'm a GIANT Ian McShane fan, but I'm not sure I could see him as any of the characters. Cotter Pyke so far is the one I agree with most...not how I pictured Cotter Pyke in my head but it would certainly be an interesting way to play it. If he's a Greyjoy I think it would have to be Balon, and I agree with Fox Lord that Balon is probably going to be in the show for five minutes total.
