People have been saying that Ian McShane needs to be on the show. Who could you guys see him fitting?

One of the Ironborn. I'm thinking Dagmer Cleftjaw. :)

The Blackfish.

That is, if that character makes it to the series.

Damn you, powers that be.

I really like Ian Mcshane, and after seeing him as Blackbeard in Pirates I've started watching Deadwood, and now I'm hooked. If Mcshane is cast in GoT, I really can't see him playing someone other than someone in power, and after reading everyone else's ideas I can't see anyone else playing Mance Rayder other than Mcshane. He has that certain charisma that I think really captures Mance Rayder's character. As for the age and appearances issue, I don't think it will be an issue. I mean, it must have taken some time for Mance Rayder to gain the trust of the wildlings and make a name of himself as the King Beyond the Wall, and I got the impression reading GoT that the NW have been fighting against Mance Rayder for some time, so Mance Rayder should be played by someone middle aged or older. Besides, if Alan Rickman can put on a black wig and play a thirty-something character, why can't Mcshane? :cool4:
Also it will be really cool to see Kit Harington face off with Ian Mcshane, wouldn't it?

Mance is bard-ish though and McShane is nothing like that. That's my complaint against that. I love the though of him playing Doran Martell.

I mean, that's the point of acting isn't it? Trying to convince people that you're something when you might not be. Even if Mcshane isn't bard-ish in RL, and his past characters weren't bard-ish, doesn't mean he can't play a character like Mance Rayder, especially since he's such a talented and respected actor.
That being said I wouldn't mind if he played Doran Martell--as long as he plays someone in a position of power.
If they get him to play like...I dunno Wun-wun (so unlikely) but still...uh-uh. :lmao:

I am starting to like the Randyll Tarly idea. He is not a big enough character that the looks matter that much, so McShane could take this and fit perfectly. Tarly has that harshness and always seems pissed and anyone familiar with Ian McShane's work knows he can pull it off.

Hah, that is true. Channel Al Swearengen's business like approach to brutality and enforcement. That's Tarly all over.

He also has a weathered, elderly yet wiry and strong look that might suit one of Balon's brothers.

I could see him fucking the dusky woman. I could totally see him as Victarion, coming up with a black smoking hand and saying, "Cut his throat and throw him in the sea, and the winds will favour us all the way to Meereen."

Not big enough to be a Greyjoy
Way to cool to be The Prince Of Dorne
I could see him as Tarly, but sompthing just isn't right...
He would be a perfect Roose Bolton, but it's to late
