No, read it but had forgotten it...

Thanks for the reminder. Curious that they want to go by sea, as Griffin's Roost is pretty much right next door, by land.

After the reading George did mention that the chapter was Arianne II and not Arianne I. He said the first Arianne chapter is set back in Sunspear and is about Doran learning about Aegon landing in the Stormlands and sending Arianne to go and gather information for him.

livejournal said:

Oh, one interesting thing, too, was that he mentioned after finishing reading the chapter aloud, he realized that we would all be greedy and want to see Connington taking Storm's End, so he is now wondering if he should put that before this chapter, after, or split this chapter into two chapters and put it in the middle, which I found kind of amusing.

I'm a big defender of ADWD's pace, but I've gotta say, these quotes are not encouraging me that TWOW will move things along. TWOW is going to have POVs in at least 13 locales -- and that's a low estimate, counting Dany/Barristan/Tyrion/Victarion and Connington/Arianne as the same locales. If there are 73 chapters, that means 5.5 chapters per locale, and we know that certain locales will get many more chapters than that. Yet we've got a full chapter of Doran and Arianne hearing the news, 1-2 chapters of Arianne traveling, and another full chapter of Storm's End being taken?

Martin tried to "sell" a Damphair chapter instead, which seems disappointing (no Sansa/Alayne offered, no Samwell either or another Asha/Theon or Jaime/Brienne chapter - though at least one Alayne chapter has been written). I wonder what "crazy" stuff could happen in a Damphair chapter at this point, considering he is probably cut off from all the other main Ironborn characters and presumably slow to get news.
My little heart is broken -- at this point, I'm wondering if he considers a Sansa chapter to be too spoilery (like the Jaime/Cersei/Brienne chapters) and we just won't see any more of her until the book is published.  Here's to hoping that her next chapter gets read at a con, but I won't be winding myself up like I did for this one.

Not trying to be terribly bitchy, but I tend to agree with this.  I was thrilled at first that we skipped them hearing the news and went straight to Arianne heading to meet them, even if it was a travelogue.

Hmm, I wish he had read Arianne I, not Arianne II. Now this will make Arianne I kind of redundant when I am reading TWoW. Oh well. GRRM's gonna GRRM.

I think this is a bad presumption to make. True, there are thirteen different locales at the start of TWoW but one has to assume -- if the series is to be finished within the next couple of books -- that some of the POV characters will merge with others, therefore drastically reducing the number of settings. So no, I don't think we will get five and a half chapters per locale because I don't think there will be thirteen different locales by the end of TWoW. I say that list gets reduced at least by five. Arya and Sansa have to make contact with the rest of the story soon. Davos will probably join one or more of the other Northern storylines. Aeron might soon combine with Theon and Asha. And so on.

Is thirteen a random number, or do you have particular locales in mind?

Well, the question is whether Martin will (A) actually move things along and unite them in this book, or (B.) write several traveling chapters with characters on their way to each other and then decide the tale has "grown in the telling" and he'll need 4 more books rather than 2.

You can do it different ways, but my mental north-to-south list is: (1) Bran, (2) The Wall, (3) Davos/Skagos, (4) Winterfell/Stannis/Greyjoys, (5) Sansa/Littlefinger, (6)Jaime/Brienne/Catelyn, (7) King's Landing, (8) Aegon/Connington, (9) Aeron, (10) Sam/Oldtown, (11) Dorne, (12) Arya, (13) Meereen/Dany/Tyrion/Victarion.

Of course several of these will be unified, but the question is whether the unifications happen in the middle of TWOW or at the very end.
