The new Sansa

I just finished reading AFfC and one of the best things about the book (which, to be honest, is by far my least favorite) is the way Sansa matures. In ASoS she was naive, childish and rather incapable of acting on her own. However, in her chapters in AFfC we find her seriously changed. She becomes less single-minded, more scheming, cunning ( LF has a part in that, to be sure). When I read about Petyr's plan to wed her to Haryy the heir, thus making her the lady of the Eerie, I started to take her more seriously. (Not having read ADwD, I do not know whether the plan moves on, but I hope it does. LF is a true genius, better than all those highborn kings and queens *coughs * Cersei, with her empty boasting)

Anyway, could the new Sansa be the next strong political figure? Could she, with both the Vale and Winterfel in her power, become the Queen in the North?

Yeah, you can actually see a bit of change in Sansa (FINALLY). I just hope she doesn't become Cersei no. 2

And I think it would be hilarious if Sansa got a happy ending in the end. It would actually be very humorous from GRRM's side to give her a happily ever after. xD

I have grown quite fond of Sansa, at first I couldn't stand her but then I remembered she was only like, what, 11 in the first book and 13 on the show. She acted like how any preteen girl would act, but then the circumstances really pushed her to grow up and change a lot faster than she normally would have. She's been through some awful stuff. Her chapters are my favorites, and I think she is still one of the only truly, good major characters besides Brienne and Samwell, imo. I don't want her to lose her soul by conspiring to kill a defenseless, sick little boy who's mentally unbalanced and quite vulnerable.

Although, I would love to see Sansa rise above it all and I so want Sansa, not Margaery, to be the one in Cersei's prophecy who will take her down. But without losing herself along the way.

I think Daenarys is the "young queen" from Cersei's prophecy.

I think Sansa is going to dabble in some evil. Littlefinger has given Sansa a strong motive to want Robert dead if he doesn't die soon.

I completely disagree. Sansa is good at heart. She has a gentle heart. Right now she's LF's pawn (which really worries me)... she herself isn't motivated by the "game of thrones"... all she wants is love. There's no way that she would conspire against little Sweetrobin.... she's very patient and tolerant of him. I just hope she's able to get herself out of LF's crutches and his creepy "fatherly" kisses.

All Sansa wanted was love, I believe now - especially with the Alayne Stone personna - that she is becoming more and more involved in the game and will take actions and make decisions that AGoT Sansa would have looked down her nose at.

Wouldn't it be just the sweetest revenge if Sansa learns from Little Finger and outwits him in the end (although admittedly it is quite an impossible task to do)? Brilliant as he is, LF was the one who started all of it, by advising Lysa to poison her own husband and then to blame it on the Lannisters.

Besides Jaime, Sansa is the character for whom my opinion has 180'd most. GRRM's supreme talent of rapidly throwing tonal gear changes was on display in Sansa's early chapters. "Guts" became "tummies," the world was described in poetic niceties, and everything was a song within a song within a fable. It was enough to make me want to skip them and read on to Ned, Jon, and Daenerys being hardcore.

Now though, she'll become very formidable. I still think the 3 most dangerous people in the whole story are Tyrion, Littlefinger, and the Queen of Thrones because they understand how to plan ahead and let the next move make itself apparent. Cersei is too much of a manipulator - she has no concept of how to let a situation play long enough to understand it. Tywin (as has been demonstrated on this forum) was a lousy military commander. Jaime is learning, but his strength was his sword and he hasn't learned how to wield his words. I'm glad Sansa, who is not of the sword like Brienne or Arya, has Littlefinger to teach her the ways of the Game. At this point, I'm praying Baelish doesn't screw her over, which is totally possible. Despite the man being awesome and treacherous, I've never forgiven him for betraying Ned.

Here are some thoughts about Sansa...

First off, I forgot how young she was! Wow. xD

Second, we kinda have two types of girls that can survive in Westeros - the warrior ones and the plotting ones. Brienne represents the first, Cersei the second. Arya is learning to be a warrior, so maybe Sansa is learning to become a plotter. I just hope she doesn't lose the sense of right and wrong... But given that she is a Stark, I don't think that she will...

Also, all of the other characters seem to have stories that are directly tied to either the Iron Throne, or the Others. Sansa has been an important figure, but only passively so. I don't believe that GRRM has dedicated so much time and space to her in the books just so we see her get moved around all over the place, manipulated and tortured. Jon is the key player in fighting the Others, Bran has some great magical destiny, Arya seems to be focusing on revenge. That leaves Sansa. Littlefinger's plan, if it works out, will result in Sansa having much power, but that's another thing that others do and not her. What is her game going to be? What is Sansa's true role? I think GRRM might surprise us all with that...

I hope I am not derailing this thread, but after reading this last chapter for Alayne in AFFC, I cannot help but wonder what is Littlefinger's motive for raising Sansa up to Lady of the Vale through this marriage to Harry the Heir. The reason cannot possibly be Petyr's love for Catelyn. He honestly does not seem to be the kind of guy to allow love to guide any of his actions. So if not that.... then what?

Littlefinger knows that husbands can die, and widows can remarry. It would not surprise me to see him use Alayne/Sansa to get control of several thrones. As Hand, or as a King, he'll have power. Maybe he has plans to create a new realm and title for himself, using Sansa/Alayne to get there.

I think, as Lady of the Vale, Sansa (or LF through Sansa) would be able to summon the army needed to retake Winterfell, as opposed to just being the "Lady/Heir of Winterfell" in name alone. LF can then conjure some sort of "accident in battle" for Harry the Heir and have Sansa free to marry himself. Then LF would have command of the Riverlands (through Harrenhal), the Vale, and the North (theoretically, since it seems politics in the North is more fickle than at first appearance).

Sansa is just one of the cards in Littlefingers sly little game of thrones:

Sansa is the true heir to Winterfell.

If he marrries her to the heir of the Vale the bannerman of the Vale will claim the North for her.

And of course Littlefinger as Lord of Harrenhal rules the Great House of the Riverlands. That is an empty title, but if he has the alliance of the might of the Vale and the North the riverlords may bend their knees.

As far as LF knows. Interestingly his whole plot falls apart if and when Bran and Rickon show themselves, they both take precedence over Sansa in the Winterfell line and would probably gain the support of a number of the river lords as well.

Bran is out busying becoming one with the trees. I don't believe he will leave the cave he's in, or at least if he does it will come as a surprise to me. I think GRRM has opened up some interesting ideas re: Bran becoming omniscient in Westeros. I think it's also alluded to that he's spoken to Theon in Winterfell's Godwood so I think any influence he has on the series will be through the Weirwood trees or through his warging into various animals.

I'm of two minds about Rickon, since he was a relatively minor character to begin with and we haven't seen him for a few books now. Either he is important to the plot of the story and will come back as the heir of Winterfell and shock everyone, or he won't. But I don't understand why GRRM would make a Stark a relatively unimportant character in a series which seems to be about them and their family's journey. It seems anticlimactic if Rickon does not come back, yet it doesn't really fit or feel right if he does. At least to me. If he comes back I get the impression he will be the pawn/puppet of another character.

I don't think LF's whole plot necessarily falls apart if Rickon reappears; being the schemer he is, I'm sure he would be able to manipulate (or attempt to) whoever Rickon's regent/guardian would be while keeping Sansa in his back pocket.

I think Sansa's character shows a lot of potential right now, much more so than when she was hanging around in KL. Although I did enjoy reading about her marriage through Tyrion through both her and Tyrion's perspective.
