Did I make a @GameOfThrones reference on Castle? Yes. Was it a cheap ploy to get on their show? ...yes.

This was posted on Nathan Fillion's Twitter account today. If you don't know who Nathan Fillion is. he's the guy who played Malcolm Reynolds in the fantastic space western TV series, Firefly. Here's a look at his IMDB page.

As a huge fan of Nathan Fillion, I'm delighted to hear that he wants a spot on Game Of Thrones. In my opinion, he would be a great addition to the show. He is more than capable of playing characters with multiple layers and dimensions to them, which are plentiful in ASOIAF. I'm not too worried about the accent thing, either. Fillion seems like he'd be invested enough to really nail down whatever accent is required of him.

Who do you think Fillion should play? The first character that came to mind for me was Jon Connington, but he won't be coming into the story for another few seasons (if we get that far). Maybe Mance Rayder?

Let this thread begin.

If we can't get James Purefroy for Mance, Nathan would be a great alternative.

Nathan is such a great and versatile  actor, I could see him in many roles.

If we hadn't gotten a first season already and based purely on his humor, not looks he would have made a cool Jaime.
He would be a very cool Mance indeed. Other than that, I could see him as Connington, Daario, Aerys Oakheart (would be an awesome role for him), Thoros (he could even be Beric, if they recast that role).
My dream role for him would be Edmure Tully, though... good that they haven't cast him yet... And if Nathan has time, maybe his daughter from Castle (Molly Quinn) has time as well. Would love her as Ygritte.

Ser Justin Massey. He can probably pull off the I'm-slick-yet-charming schtick Massey had going on when he hung out with Asha.

This. Nathan definitely has the attitude to pull off Mance.

Nathan Filiion, a "Versatile actor"?  really?  I mean I love NF a lot, but he plays one character...  Nathan Fillion.  :)

Given that, I'd say he could be Dolorous Edd, or maybe Mance Rayder.  There aren't a ton of characters with the goofy/serious mix that NF always brings to his roles.

Edmure Tully. He looks the part to me.

He looks Dornish to me... but a little too boyish for the Red Viper.

With Fillion's price and availability, it would have to be a one-off or perhaps two or three (and that assumes he gives a GoT discount).  Since they are well in to the shooting for Clash of Kings, it pretty much has to be from Storm of Swords (or later).

I keep coming back to Oberyn Martell or Arys Oakheart. I lean toward Oberyn, even though it puts him (likely) in the fourth season.  I think he'd want to grow a small beard and to accent it with some grey to lose some of his babyfaced-ness.  But he could do the attitude just fine.

Would Nathan be able to do a passable English accent like Dinklage instead of his cowboy twang?

With that in mind....Harwin or Tom O Sevenstrings?

I think he'd make a great Mance.  He can sing too, as he was in Dr. Horrible's Singalong blog.  Not that Mance is likely to do a whole lot of singing, but it is possible.

I think we're missing the obvious.  The Others are Reavers.  Jayne is the prince that was promised.

After pondering this a bit more, I seriously hope that when they cast the Tullys next season, they consider him for Edmure. He would totally rule in that scene where he misses arrow after arrow... Since they aged up Cat, he could certainly pass for her little brother.
Another factor that should not be underestimated is his geek factor, which I think is even higher than Sean Beans. A lot of Firefly devotees will flock to HBO.
On WiC someone suggested him to play Vargo Hoat, but I think that his Firefly mate Alan Tudyk would make a better goat;)

Yes! Alan Tudyk as Vargo Hoat. That just makes me cackle with glee.

And I agree that Edmure Tully would be a good role for Nathan. He's probably a bit young to be Mance, but he'd be great in that role, too, especially with the singing skills he displayed in Dr. Horrible!

Nathan Fillion always plays Nathan Fillion?  I remember him being the extremely vicious and so-evil-it-hurts preacher in Season 7 of Buffy, Vampire Slayer.  Don't think that was the real Nathan Fillion he was playing.  At least I hope not.

I can't see Fillion as Mance; well, possibly; but I think he could do Oberyn; unless the casting directors will be sticklers for someone more Dornish looking (doesn't Oberyn have olive skin and and dark eyes)...

Ok, now that we have crossed into Firefly territory... Summer Glau (I know all her shows have been canceled preety fast;)) would make a cool Missandei, dunno if she can do the accents (like Dotrice)
