I see a lot of discussion about casting these characters on this board but its never all in one place, so who would you like to see as Doran, Oberyn, The Sand Snakes, Arianne, Quentyn and their household?

A few potential actors spring to my mind to me for Oberyn.
  • Rufus Sewell
  • James Purefoy
  • Alastair Mackenzie
  • Oded Fahr

Who do you want to play them?

I have been dreaming about having James Purefoy play Oberyn since I first met the character, the very first time I read the books. :-)

I think it depands on how the Martells will be portrayed, in my mind they have looked something like James Purefoy, but I know they are discribed as having a more darker skin colour then the rest of Westeros.

As soon as I read Lady Nym's description (technically a Martell), I couldn't help thinking that Bridget Regan would be perfect. She already has 2 seasons of Fantasy experience on her resume....

...I also have her as Lyanna in my flashback scenes, heh.

I love the Martells.
Nazanin Boniadi as Arianne http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2258164/
Oded Fehr as Oberyn
Alexander Siddig as Doran
Matthew McNulty as Quentyn

With the exception of Oded Fehr, that's a pretty great casting.
Oberyn in my mind is not very tall and stocky, he always struck me as a slender and quick type of guy (probably because of the image his nickname put in my mind) and Oded seems too large for him.
Nazanin Boniadi is very pretty and would make a great Arianne, but I'm worried she wouldn't be able to pull off the more reckless and defying side of the character.

I always imagined the Martells as somewhat eastern mediteranean looking. Dorne reminds me of Greece, Turkey or Israel, or even northern africa (morrocco, tunisia or algeria) I'd be very happy to see middle eastern or northern african actors cast for the Martells.

Yes, I totally agree that they should be Mediterranean/Middle Eastern/North African looking. Which is why I struggled to put in Mathew McNulty but he could pull off being Middle Eastern (I am Iranian, he could pass since we have diverse looks). As for Oded, you're right he should be smaller and slender, but I really like Oded Fehr haha. I think Nicholas Guilak (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0346866/) would also make a fantastic Oberyn ! What do you think?

It's too bad acting is an art form and not easily accomplished by just anyone. Because, for the life of me, I can't think of anyone else who so embodies Arianne Martell (physically) than Kim Kardashian. They even have the same rich and entitled demeanor, heh.

Disclaimer: No, I am not saying anyone should be calling her for the role...was just looking at pictures and musing.

Antonia Thomas from Misfits would make a good Martell - which one though I can't think. Arianne or Nymeria.

Yeah I actually think Eric Avari and Oded Fehr would be a good Doran and Oberyn combo. Oded might not fit the build, but I think he's a great actor and could play the role well.

Ah, Oded Fehr. Love it. My no. 1 Mummy crush.

And Doran? This is never going to happen, but I pictured him as Omar Sherrif /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> (who probably isn't fat or gouty enough but hey ho.)

Arianne: Emmanuelle Chriqu. http://media.tumblr....CNzs1qij9od.jpg

Seen some really good suggestions for Sand Snakes, will try not to repeat: (there's probably a different thread for this)
Obara-Zuleikha Robinson http://espyrants.fil...9/unknown4.jpeg

Nymeria: Nina Dobrev (yeah, the vampire diaries is rather crappy, but she's gorgeous) http://www.dailymake...Aug_29_2010.jpg

Tyene: Gabriella Wilde http://www.flicksand...iella-wilde.jpg

Quentyn Martell in my head has always been british actor Dean Aspen (aka Duncan from Hollyoaks, damn my fiancee and her soap addiction!!!), he fits the profile I reckon as well from the Wiki - "Quentyn is short and stocky with a plain face. He is very serious and does not smile easily. Ser Barristan remarks that he "seems a decent lad, sober, sensible, dutiful...but not the sort to make a young girl's heart beat faster."

He would obviously need a spraytan!

Oops, forgot quentyn.

Matthew McNulty as Quentyn

Best suggestion so far, but maybe a little too good looking...

Haha Ya, I thought he would be a bit too good looking for Quentyn but then again they did cast a pretty girl for Brienne. Here is hoping they at least add him to the cast for something because I quite like him /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Cool, I'm not the only one who pictured Arianne as a reality TV star. In my mind she's played by Snooki.

I agree with HyacinthGirl's cast for the Sand Snakes, especially Obara, I think Zuleikha would fit perfectly.

Hey, now! Vampire Diaries fan, right here. /tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' /> I never though about Nina Dobrev as Nymeria, but that is good idea. In my mind Nymeria looks like Paz Vega http://www.imdb.com/...22080/nm0891895 (but she is older than Nymeria)

Nina Dobrev is closer to Nymeria's age. She is so much better when she is playing devious, sort of ruthless, morally grey characters.

Oded Fehr was my The Mummy crush,too. /wub.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Sorry...if it's any consolation I still watch it quite a bit, crappy or no /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Ian Somerhalder, my god.
I've heard the Paz Vega suggestion before, I can see it. But for me Nina Dobrev is perfect. And she does the sassy, more dangerous character well.
(I actually think the Sand Snakes will sadly be cut, as there are rather a lot of characters by that point, and they may just want the audience to focus on Arianne...but still.)
