Doran -
1) John Rhys-Davies http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0722636/ (very surprised no one has mentioned him)

Outstanding, far and away the best pick for Doran I've seen.  I had Alfred Molina in mind, and still think he'd be awesome, but Rhys-Davies would be my #1 pick.

Each one would be amazing as Doran, JRD definitely brings a little more of a commanding voice and presents even if he's supposed to be sickly and gout-ridden.

Very true, but Danny Trejo is also undeniably scary. :)

Can't argue with that, normally; although when he played The Chief in Fanboys he was anything but scary.

Areo Hotah is not a Dornishman, but from Norvos, so I see no need for him to look ethnically like the Dornish. Of course, we have no idea yet what D&D are going to have the Norvosi look like.

I think the Norvosi should definitely not look like the Dornish so people can instantly identify Areo Hotah as an outsider in Doran's court. I don't know about anyone else always managed Areo as sort of Eastern European. They should probably go with a distinctive accent too. I hate it when they have characters like the Qartheen and Illyrio Mopatis speaking with the same accents as the Westerosi, it completely fails to establish that these characters are in a completely different continent. (Especially with Illyrio because that was Episode One). It wouldn't bother me much if he didn't though because Areo has been living in Dorne for a long time.

Both are in their 40's and can be aged up a little if needed. I always figured Areo was maybe mid to late 20's when he went to Dorne with Mellario so that would put him in his late 45ish by the time we meet him in the books. I think you want him to be a little younger so he can move more fluently come action time.

I like this actress for Nymeria Sand:

http://www.spotlight.../9812-4536-2643

She's a friend of mine & has done some random stuff, though her most prominent role is in a feature which isn't finalized yet.
She's Swedish & travels back & forth between Stockholm/London since she has family there, but I know for a fact she's relocating to London full time.

She has the look (pale skin, dark hair, tall, high cheekbones, full lips, is quite slender) down! Well, apart from the eyes.

Looks good in blonde too & could probably pass for Tyene as well.

Wow I didn't realize Oberyn was only 42 in the books, crazy when you consider he has a 28 year old daughter. These kids in ASOIAF sure like having their kids when young.

Also here's an idea for Arianne:

Arianne Martell: India de Beaufort

I know she's not technically a Martell, but I think Camilla Belle would be perfect as Ellaria Sand, Oberyn's paramour.

I hate that in the books I imagine Kim Kardashian as Arianne since I cannot stand that woman but I do *sigh*

But actingwise I can totally see Jenna Louise Coleman as Arienne. She looks sweet yes but she's proved herself that she's got a seductive sultry side to her in "Room at the Top".

I know Nymeria is not supposed to look asian, but I keep on picturing Devon Aoki as Nymeria.

There's also the point that the characters do have to looks older than their children or else they're would be confusion. I remember someone saying on youtube that Michelle Fairley looked too old for Catelyn because she is around 30ish (where Michelle is 48), As well as all the characters have been aged up a few years, they have got to look like they could be they're mother/father/son/daughter etc depending how aged they are. If they had picked someone who was 30 or around 30 (for instance Roxanne McKee who played Doreah would have been 30 when they filmed the first series), then being the mother of Robb Stark (Richard Madden) it just would looked right. There is more to it than just getting the age right, they have to look right as well. So Oberyn Martell would have to look like he could have fathered a daughter who is now 28 years old.

Oberyn -
1) Cliff Simon http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0800101/ (very close to the description, - the short hair)

Sand Snake -
   Julia Voth - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2972478/ (I assume Nymeria)

The first two would be my choice too and I like Julia Voth as Nymeria.

As for Oberyn Martell:
Please, no James Purefoy or Oded Fehr.
I don't like James Purefoy. The way he acts, looks et cetera is nothing like I imagine the Red Viper.
And Oded Fehr does not have a sharp and agile viper-like look. He looks way too kind for that and the acting I've seen of him usually involves kind characters.
Cliff Simon, however, could pull it off - of that I have no doubt.

Actually, Julia Voth looks like she could be either a Lyanna, or an adult Arya.

Martell is actually of French origin and goes as far back as Charlamagnes Grandfather, and since it seems that Martin is taking as his influence the sometimes contentious relationship between the French and the English whose royal families had to marry sometimes to keep the peace, I think Dorne is a hybrid of Spanish/French/South American cultures.
So here are my picks:

Doran: Benecio Del Toro, (still remnants of a handsome man but not as handsome as he used to be)
http://www.bing.com/...enicio del toro

Jimmy Smits: The Red Viper
http://www.bing.com/...pvt=jimmy smits

Roslyn Sanchez: Arianne
http://www.bing.com/...9E40CD408976821

Elsa Lafuente Pataki: Tyene Sand
http://www.bing.com/...317EEB9BF0BB0E8

Gaspard Ulliel: Quentyn (imperfectly and "muddily" handsome)
http://www.bing.com/...078&FORM=IQFRBA

Had to go back and correct myself.

In a recent interview with a Spanish magazine, Martin clarified the ethnicity of the Dornish, and they are a hybrid of the Spanish and the Welsh.

Who knew? :dunno:

I think that he means Spanish is were he took the cultural inspiration and Welsh was were he got the political inspiration, what with the separation from the rest of Westeros and the rather sparse population.
