For those struggling through AFFC...

Ah, thanks for the encouragement! I'm not bored per se, but I do find some chapters slightly dull, with Brienne's at 1st place - hers also annoy the hell out of me since I know where the person she's looking for is... I sure hope Mr. Martin is going somewhere with such a big number of chapters. I'd hate to find out they were utterly pointless. (I'm about 5/8 way through the book :))

It is well written for sure. This one is more political, a kind of behind the scenes of the goings on at King's Landing. I liked it the first time I read it..(in 9 days!) I'm listening to the audiobook this time around. I feel a disconnect obviously because it's Roy Doltrice-less.

I struggled really badly in the beginning... like would fall asleep while reading and that is VERY unlike me! But it got better as it went on. I just started ADWD, can't say for sure if it's good or not yet, but so far has kept my interest. Love this series, wish GRRM would write the next one soon, I'm afraid my old feeble mind will forget half of what I've read by the time it comes out!

It is good to know other people struggle to read it as well.

The first chapters with all the nex PoV characters (and a large exposition on the Iron Islands' traditions) are difficult, plus Brienne going the wrong way (and you know sh's not going to find what she is lloking for), plus Arya in Essos (why the hell is she there ?), Make it difficult for me to go back reading... I will though, I promise.

This is my third re-read of AFFC now, and I still didn't get better in struggling through it. I really try, and here and there I happen to find some interesting piece of info that is helpful for interpreting ADWD or making guesses for what is to come next, but it is so boring in itself... I always find myself looking for how much pages I have to read until I get another Jaime or Cersei POV, and I even enjoy Brienne's chapters - but what the hell is all that boring non-story-stuff happening around Arya and Sam, and why should I care about all those boring, incompetent Ironborn and Dornishmen all of a sudden? I remember again how pissed off I was when the book came out after having waited so long, and then it was... THAT! I even sold the newly bought hardcover edition again and got me a used paperback some years later. But to those who haven't read ADWD yet: It's worth it. And all those years of waiting were rewarded, kind of... I only have 200 pages of AFFC left now, and then I can finally do a proper re-read of ADWD - I am really looking forward to it.

I for one really loved A Feast for Crows. It was a more politically minded book, which I love. Also the chapters about the Ironborn and the Dornischmen were really interesting, especially the outcome of both of them.

I miss the usual point of views but I get going I know I won't be disappointed when (if?) they return but can't wait to read about Tyrion, Jon, etc. I can't stand Cersei point of view but I like Jaime better and better, that's for sure!

I'm at the beginning, right at Arya's first chapter. It's just odd. I like Brienne (unlike most people it seems!), and the main characters, I just really hate reading through the random POVs. On one hand, I don't care what they think but on the other, I know it's important or they wouldn't be there. Ah well. I'll push through it so I can get on to DwD!

ok, I've flipped through this book *a lot*. I found it overwhelmingly tedious to read the chapters in the order GRRM has them, so I've been reading through each POV. I'm already done w/ Sansa and Arya's (boo!, b/c i love them) and just finished all the Dorne chapters. I've also totally cheated by reading both Brianne's and Cersei's last chapters. And I'm sorry, but Brianne is too "simple" to care about, just not an intrigueing character. As for the Iron Islands chapters....well, I'm trying. AFFC has some really frigging fantastic chapters, but boy do you have to pay your dues to get to them. I am excited to read Samwell's though, he's my saving grace from (gag) Jaime and Cersei (even though I've grown to like Jaime but the Cersei chapters are like agony to me).

If I could have found DwD (is that book out yet?) I would have picked it up and just started reading it while reading AFFC.

I may change my mind about the book, but for now the only way I can keep invovled is to skip around.
