Dammit the Turkish song is totally stuck in my head...hop on to my ship...i'll make you fly...(clearly, he's an astronaut. I approve.)

ETA - and the singer is jewish. Yesss, preciousss. It's not EV without politics!

I'm with Ran on the weird staging - I don't get the love for the song at all, since I can't hear it past all the odd flailing about.

To me, the song itself is very. . . Celine Dion.

Did Norway steal Eric Saade for this year? Gawd that song is horrible...

I though Loreen had a good number actually, when I saw the show the song grew better than from hearing on the radio (it's not my cup of tea). She is rather trendy. Kaftans and long dresses are back...

Nothin will ever beat Bistra Voda in my eurovision book. :commie: Well, not correct, Molitva is on shared first place.
It's got to be Balkan for me it seems.

That was a good year. It also had the Estonian violin song.

that is the most annoying song i've ever heard.
probably because of the fact that for months in belgrade you couldn't help hearing it once every 15 minutes.

Traditional Ukrainian fashion sense there, though I think they still haven't quite topped whatever year they had the the roman centurion space strippers.

Ah, that was a good one too, Rändajad... At first I thought you meant the Estonian song from 2007, which was... not that good :uhoh:

The most memorable from 2007 though, I will not forget it as long as I live.
It's up there with Greece 2002, what a show. The choreography is... mindblowing ;)

I think you can watch it online on http://www.eurovision.tv. Not sure how it works with country locked IPs and stuff, but I saw parts of it last year online. It was kind of hilarious since you could watch the Twitter flow simultaneously.

Damn, Greece 2002 is legendary! It's one of my all time favourites, that and the "Avanti" song from like 1987 and the French entry with the barrell drumming "Black and White blues" .

They sure can kill a song by playing it too much. I thought it was really good, goosebump-good, but I didn't have to hear it as much I suppose.

Yep, it sure is. My favourites are the lame judges dancing along. They are even better than the trumpeters in colourful tights. IMO they should keep them on stage for the final in Baku.

Just checked the Norwegian entry and it's Eric Saade inna hood! Tbh you guys wanna borrow the real one? We don't need him anymore since his ex GF Molly (she actually did my favourite song this year, better than Loreen and Danny) is better anyway. :P

Btw, saw Youtube comments raving about the Slovenian entry, which is a girl in a roman type dress and some other random lady with a huge blob of cloth on her head, but it just sounded vaguely pointless to me.

I loved Greece that year, but I don't think the song and performance was top notch ;) But that is what makes it such good entertainment to me.

Avanti la vie from -84? I think it's quite beautiful, a little bit like Symfonin med Loa Falkman but more serious, a classic!

I thought they should have much more of the drumming in Black and white blues, that was the good part of that song. But I love the outfits, they don't match at all with the singer. Wasn't that song and performance considered really cool back then? I don't really remember, I was ten yrs old...

I'm glad to remind you of the mystery and magnificence of Greece 2002! I try to spread the gospel...

Moldova 2010!!! I had forgotten... The saxophonist... The vests... The white jeans. Thanks for putting this in the front of my mind.

Did a majority of Turks really vote for a jew? Or did politicians fix the outcome to improve their country's image? It would be really cool if the people just didn't care but i find that a little hard to believe.

This one is disadvantaged by not getting out of the semi-finals, but it's still one of my favourites: http://www.youtube.c...?v=jz0qww8eKsE. I think it struggled for not being Eurovision enough...But Nevertheless! (I still use that in conversation quite frequently)

Try getting this one out of your head: http://www.youtube.c...?v=L3mzzWCmPiU. I had this thing stuck in my head for months afterwards...

My family had the Eurovision Contest CD from 2001 (I was living in Copenhagen at the time), so I look back on that as one of the better Eurovision years. But maybe that's just because most of the songs on there have been drilled into my head. This was probably my favourite from that year at the time (dunno if it still would be if I listened to them all again now though): http://www.youtube.c...h?v=HZb4jz7f7bE

So Greece has an entry and (as far as EV songs go) it isn't too bad.

“Aphrodisiac,” Eleftheria Eleftheriou
I can't find a video from last night's on-stage program but when I do I'll post it.

From a blog post:

Quote

Wiwi is thrilled with Eleftheria’s selection for several reasons. First, her song is classic Greek Eurovision. It maintains its Greek identity by setting traditional sounds and rhythms to a euro-pop beat. Second, Eleftheria, like Kalomeira and Helena Paparizou, is sexy but classy, and she’s young but well-seasoned. Third, after three years of male contestants (Sakis Rouvas, Giorgos Alkaios, and then Loucas Yiorkas), it’s about time Greek voters bypassed penis in favor of femininity! She brings some much-needed class and elegance to what is shaping up to be a lackluster year at Eurovision.

i didn't like it, at least in part because i dislike the singer.
and when you can't get away from hearing it a gazillion times a day for months not liking a song gradually turns into "i'm gonna kill everyone associated with making this piece of #!^% and putting it on air"
