Damn it, gsp's out for ten.

Glad to see Condit get an interim title shot at least.

Actually now they have five round matches for non-title fights if it's the main event--I think, not sure exactly which fights get five rounds that aren't title matches.

They can market it now as a title fight between Diaz and Condit. I think almost everybody knows GSP is the true champion, but title fight still sounds better.

Awesome card.

Did not like seeing that happen to Big Nog. Looks like a bad one to come back from.

That had to be Tito's swan song.

One of the more brutal nights in the UFC.  Big Nog's arm broke/dislocated, Machida choked to unconsciousness and needing stitches in his forehead to boot.  Great card all round though.

They've always had the ability to do this, but most organizations have simply chosen not to.  For television purposes I assume.

I see Diaz beating Condit pretty handily.  And Overeem is the current betting odds favorite against Lesnar.

Been lurking here for awhile now, but I figured it might be time to start another thread and keep the conversation going before they freeze the old one.  Peace!

Although my heart and hopes would be with Ned, smart money's gotta go with Lannister by disembowelment in the first.

Jaime has great striking and take down defense, but Ned is better on the ground and has an iron chin.

Jaime's kinda dirty, he likes to use his teeth and nails.  I'm pretty sure he'll be docked a point at some time in the match which will hurt him if this thing goes the distance..

Jaime's calling out Robb.  But Robb's already got the KotN title he doesn't really need to fight him.

An MMA bout? I'll give it to Ned then. If Jaime doesn't take it by onslaught in the first, latter rounds, and particularly any championship rounds, I'll throw my bets down on Stark. One things for sure about Ned: honour won't allow him to tap.

Does Jaime have a hand or stump? Does he get his golden hand?  I imagine Ned fights like Machida, while Jaime is more of a GSP.

Should be a good one though. I'm assuming Stego's got Cerrone?

Pretty good card. I was glad to be spared of a typical Jon Fitch fight when Hendricks knocked him out cold in 12 seconds.

Cerrone had nothing for Diaz. He could barely land anything other than leg sweeps, and was just tagged repeatedly by Diaz for all three rounds. According to compustrike, Diaz landed over 250 strikes at a ridiculous 82 percent connect rate. That is astoundingly bad striking defense from Cerrone. Diaz is probably pretty close to a title shot at LW.

Overeem just destroyed Brock. As soon as he landed the first big knee and Lesnar reacted by backing into the cage, I knew it was over. Lesnar only shot for one takedown and didn't come close to getting it. Not at all surprised Brock is retiring; he just got into MMA too late and couldn't develop a striking game needed in order to compete at the top level. I'm sure Overeem will get the next shot at Junior Dos Santos for the title. That should be a great fight. I favor Dos Santos; I think he has much cripser, faster, and more accurate punches. If he can avoid Overeem's big power shots, I think he'll connect on Overeem's chin and put him out.

For the first time in a long time, everyone who I thought, and wanted to win, actually won. I wanted Fitch to lose, but didn't think it'd be in that fashion. I put money on Diaz at +250 and so was pretty stoked. I thought everyone was overhyping Cerrone.

But the main event was disappointing. I thought Overeem would win, but was hoping it would be more epic. Brock didn't come to fight, period. Even before the liver kick, or whatever it was that crippled him. Classic bully: can dish it out but can't take it.

Overeem vs JDS will be a great fight. JDS is such a good dude and it's pretty much impossible not to root for him.

Only fanboys thought that Lesnar had a chance in that fight.   I said long ago that JDS was the best HW in the UFC's HW division and that Reem was far superior to Lesnar and it's played out.  Now I'm taking a step back to reexamine the JDS/Reem fight.  I would assume that Overeem is the better grappler of the two which could make a difference but JDS may be just as solid a striker as Overeem.  I'd still lean towards Overeem because he incorporates the clinch much more smoothly into his striking style, but it's close.  It will be a great fight.

Here's the crazy thing.  Overeem was clearly the superior fighter before this but now the fanboys will act like they've liked Overeem all along.   Preeetty silly.  Hats off to Brock though, for putting in a very valiant and overall successful MMA stint based soley off of his wrestling skill that he hadn't used competitively in over 10 years.  But, in the end, it was his inability to bridge the gap in the striking department and vary his setup for takedowns that did him in.  In short, he became predictable, just like Tito Ortiz, another strong wrestler who had a limited number of ways to get a man to the ground and no striking whatsoever (with especially bad defensive striking).

And props to Team Takedown who finally, FINALLY, have one of their wrestling investments pay out as Hendricks KO's Fitch in 12... seconds.

Brock has not been the same person since he got sick. I don't understand how folks can't see that. This dude is so badass that he is getting in the ring with some of the toughest men in the world with no chance to win and taking a beating for the money.

Anyone who thinks differently has never had a gut disease or had to take prednisone. :D Brock used to take steroids that made you stronger. (anabolic) Now he takes steroids that make you weaker. (catabolic) I am dealing with the same thing in my life, and I assure you it no joke.

I can see hating Brock because he is just collecting a check and has been for years now, but don't think he's 'just bad.' He was an elite athlete and now he's just a shell of his former self getting by on his name for a few fights. Prednisone is a helluva drug.

And kudos to his wife for making him quit.

I hear you Stego.

I knew Overreem had this fight, but if it was pre diverticulitus Brock, I may have chose him to take it. He may heal faster than a lot of people, but the big beast is still human.

I just want to know, did having a 12 inch section of colon removed or other aspects of his illness make Brock in some way less able to take body shots than he could have pre disease?
