I'll keep watching next season but I don't have much hope that I'll enjoy it anymore than this season.

I was also a bit non-fussed about Dean winding up in purgatory. He's already been to hell, as has Sam, so i really don't see how purgatory is supposed to be any worse. We all know that he'll come out relatively unscathed - they always do after half a season.
Hopefully next season will featire Crowley as more of a big bad and I really hope we do get to see the alpha vampire keep his promise of "see you next season". To be honest I'd be happy to have a season that doesn't try and up the stakes and just has some good episodes and thorns in their sides, It doesn't have to be apocalyptic to be entertaining.

Boy am I glad the leviathan plot is gone. At least I hope it is. This is not something I ever want to see resurrected.

I have very similar sentiments. While I'm all on board for Crowley being the big bad, I enjoy him so much that I'd never want to see him taken out.

Also, how ridiculous was Roman to dig out the VERY TABLET WITH A HOW-TO-KILL-LEVIATHAN BOSS INSTRUCTION MANUEL? Seriously, he could have left that thing buried in Iran (or was it Iraq?) and Sam and Dean wouldn't have known shit on how to get rid of Roman. And we're supposed to take Roman seriously as the Big Bad? Puhleeze. I've seen Saturday morning cartoon villains written more cleverly than he was. Oh and the dick jokes? I'm SO over them. If I never hear another dick joke again, it'll be too soon.
For me the hugest disappointment for this season was the handling of one of my favorite characters: Bobby. The character started out promising this season. I loved his relationship with Sheriff Mills in the beginning, but then Gamble apparently killed him off to ramp up the drama and Sam and Dean's desperation. Here's my issue: What purpose did his death serve other than to emotionally manipulate the audience and pull the heartstrings? I don't think it served the story very well. Maybe if Dean had gotten more reckless and endangered himself trying to get revenge on Roman, it would have given Jensen some more interesting material to work with, but instead what does Dean do? He just drinks some more and they bug Frank for updates while they go about doing other stuff (again this season was horrible with the pacing). Those map coordinates that Bobby died valiantly trying to get to them? They amounted to nothing. They didn't learn anything from them. Nothing came from the surveillance they set up with Frank other than Frank's death. Okay that did lead them to meeting Charlie in 7.20, one of the few episodes I actually liked this season, but still. We didn't need Bobby dying for that to happen.
So then he's back as a ghost (something again me and many fans easily predicted after Death's Door so no surprising twist for us again). This just about ruined the character for me, especially when he possessed that maid and went all vengeful. I wasn't happy with them killing Bobby off, but at least he got a good send off in Death's Door, right? Then they bring him back as a ghost, but what purpose did the ghost storyline serve? Bobby didn't do anything to help them as a ghost that Sam and Dean couldn't have done themselves. The writers had him be helpful in some small ways, but that wasn't necessary. and could have easily been written differently. I feel like the writers really lost their way with this character and made him too much into the an Encyclopedia that always knows the answers and I feel like they have to dumb Sam and Dean down in the process. The best example of that is in 7.22 when ghost!Bobby pops up to tell Dean that the other two types of blood they are are from Crowley and an alpha. Seriously? Why couldn't Dean and Sam have puzzled that out themselves? Ridiculous!
I wanted Bobby to remain on the show as an interesting character who is able to occasionally help them out without making Sam and Dean look stupid in the process, such as knowing about some really obscure piece of knowledge that they wouldn't have had a chance to come across themselves. I was hoping we'd see him fleshed out more as a character and I thought his relationship with Sheriff Mills was a step in the right direction. Alas, it's not meant to be. Instead, I feel like his character was sacrificed at the alter of drama for no reason but to make us sad and hurt for Sam and Dean's losses. Had his death and ghost form helped further the plotline or Sam and Dean's character development in a meaningful way, I would have been okay with it, but instead like so much else this season, I think it fell short. That said, I thought the scene where they burned the flask was very moving. I'm glad they didn't show Bobby burning up and we just saw it reflected in Sam and Dean's faces. That was shot very well, and I especially choke up a bit when it showed Castiel watching sadly from the stairs. This could be the very last time all four members of my beloved “Team Free Will” were together.
So, let's talk Castiel. He is by FAR my favorite character in the entire series, so I was quite sad when he was absent for the most of this season. That said, I rather enjoyed this crazier version of him, and I thought in the finale especially he brought a lot of needed levity. I was also happy to see Dean and Castiel make some steps toward reconciliation before being locked up in purgatory where I hope Dean and Castiel will have a chance to further rebuild their friendship while helping each other survive. I also adore Sam for forgiving Castiel for his breaking the wall and being earnest in wanting to help him get better. Sam is such a sweetheart, and I think he understands Castiel better than anyone else because there's a lot of parallels between what Sam did when he was tricked into killing Lilith and starting the apocalypse, and what Castiel did when he tried to stop Raphael from starting the apocalypse and accidentally unleashed the leviathans. Sam knows what it's like to do hurt those you care about in an “ends justify the means” mindset, and I think it made sense for him to forgive Castiel.
That said, I don't want Castiel to be quite so crazy like this forever, and I think we saw some signs of the old Castiel at the end there. The direness of them being trapped in purgatory is going to put Castiel in full on soldier mode I think, and will keep the crazy at bay at least some, I hope. When he spoke to Dean in that last scene, his voice demeanor and everything seemed more like old Castiel to me. As disappointed as I was about so many aspects this season, the ending of the finale and the change in showrunners has given me a lot of hope and excitement.
I think the setup for season 8 is brilliant, and I hope it won't be squandered by having Dean and Castiel rescued from purgatory too quickly. We've never really got to explore a non-earth realm in great depth in this show, and seeing purgatory could be something new and exciting for us. The hunter becoming the hunted! We could easily run into past monsters that Dean has killed before. I'm really, really excited to see where they go with this. I also think Sam's storyline has great potential too. We saw how badly he reacted when Dean was dragged into hell and he was manipulated by Ruby, so I'd like to see how Sam goes about being resourceful on his own without a demon manipulatiing him. Sam won't be all consumed with getting revenge.. He'll be all about trying to figure out what happened to them and how to help get them back.
We could see him make new friends and allies and bring in some other characters like Sheriff Mills, and I'm hoping the angel Inias was in hiding and not killed because Inias would probably want Kevin to be saved, and Sam could use help from him. I also loved how Inias seemed like good, kind angel, and after so many jerk angels (Castiel excepted) it was refreshing to see another one who was also earnest and good. I have a feeling we'll see more Garth next season too, which doesn't please me at all because I loathed this joke of a character, but I know some fans like him, so I'll tolerate him as long as we get plenty of Dean and Cas in purgatory.
So to sum it up, I am glad season 7 is over because I felt is was poorly written and poorly paced, but with the show in Jeremy Carver's hands now, and with a promising set up for season 8, I have renewed hope that this show just might be able to recapture some of the old magic it used to have for me. Here's hoping anyway!

I think he's a stronger writer than Gamble, and he did a good job writing the brotherly bonding episodes with Sam and Dean, and he also wrote some of my favoite Castiel episodes too. I'm hoping his experience running "Being Human" the North American version will have given him valuable experience needed to run season 8 with better plotting and pacing too. Gamble had a lot of good ideas, but they never seemed to bear fruit in my opinion. She could set stuff up for the season but then not follow through well.
Thanks for the screen name compliment.

OH MAN! He wrote one of my all time favorite supernatural episodes, A Very Supernatural Christmas! I LOVE HIM.
Plus, I think the US Being Human is absolutely fantastic. This news makes me very excited.

Maybe I'm just too particular expecting plots and character development to make sense. The show was never plothole free, but at least they usually got the characters right, and if I could love the characters, then I was able to overlook the plot failings as long as I was still connected on an emotional level. Oh well. Here's hoping season 8 will be better for everyone.

I personally am hoping they use this opportunity to do something more with Eve and this time do it right with an actress who can actually act. I thought the premise of the Mother of Monsters was very interesting but poorly executed. I know she's dead but wishful thinking.....I didn't like the presentation of Eve in season 6 but I loved the idea of a villain like her.
