guys the starks are many things but no one can ever say they were "badass" except maby their early ancestors like theon stark or someone..

I chose Baratheon a couple pages back but read Tze's thoughts about the Starks. I find them very true. The Starks are just badass in a different kind of way than the other houses. They don't do it for glory or power. They do it quietly and efficiently whenever it's necessary.

Who did Robert turn to when he wanted to overtake the throne? The Starks
Who hid Rhaegar's child under Robert's murderous nose? The Starks
Who did Bloodraven choose as his successor? A Stark
Who was offered the Iron throne chair after Robert's Rebellion and turned it down? A Stark
Who battled the best 3 swordsmen in Westerosi history at the Tower of Joy and never mentions it? A Stark
Who swings the sword when someone is sentenced to death in the North? The Starks do it with their own hands
What 10 yr old child keeps a hitlist and kills people without batting an eye? A Stark LOL
What 4 yr old child LIKES to hang out in scary crypts with dead ppl? A Stark

So I think:
Baratheon's are badass in a " hot-headed, boisterous, In-your-face" way
Starks are badass in a " cold, silent and lethal" way
Randyl Tarly is the Westeri version of Chuck Norris/JohnWayne

1. Okay. But thats not saying much because Robert is an idiot.
2. Err, one, we aren't 100% sure of that, and considering Ned found Jon it's not like he did anything special.
3. Guess that depends if you consider Bloodraven a badass or not
4. Ned was never offered the throne.
5. Probably because he knows they were good people and he didn't want to kill them? Dude's being a nice guy, not a badass.
6. Okay? That's honorable I guess, but there seems to be a bunch of people that do that.
7. If murdering innocent people is badass than I guess that counts.
8. Alternatively he's just crazy

I love the Mormonts. Little Lyanna's letter to Stannis is probably one of the most badass actions-in-single-paragraph in that book.

Nevertheless, I've gotta say the the most badass major house is Martell- if only for Oberyn.

The Starks lost it when they lost Robb. Which imo is Catelyn's fault. They always seem to have trouble with love and marriage. AND they don't seem ambitious enough to go for the iron throne.

That's because they have no desire for the Iron Throne, they went south for different purposes namely family, honor and justice.
If you rule the north for 8000 years it's not for lack of ambition that's for sure.

I would say the Greyjoys for all the reasons already stated previously, theirs is a severely harsh culture.

Also the Baratheons based on Robert and Stannis. Robert smashed his foes with a friggin HAMMER. Plus, you don't get to rule a place like Westeros without any badassness in you. Their words are "Ours is the fury", that's pretty badass.

For minor houses, Mormonts (the females who joined war with Robb, Jeor, Jorah, and the little girl Lyanna who basically told Stannis to fuck himself. Now that warrants badassness all in itself.)

As someone mentioned before, I wouldn't want to fuck with the Cleganes, either. Just think about, Sandor is supposed to be the good one.

It is quite clearly the Starks.

-The house dates back to the Age of Heroes with their founder, Bran the Builder. He built The Wall, Winterfell, and possibly had a hand in Storm's End. Three of the greatest (and most magical) structures in all of Westeros.
-They've ruled the North (half of Westeros) ever since then.

Skipping ahead to the current generation
-Robb, a 16 year old boy, managed to best Tywin Lannister in battle on multiple occasions, and was only killed by betrayal.
-Jon (if he counts) has fought Others, defended the Wall against a massive Wildling army with very few men, became one of the youngest Lord Commanders in history, and "Fetch me a block."
-Arya is an 11 year old girl training to be an assassin. She has a hit list which she has shortened.
-Bran is possibly the most powerful warg/greenseer in the world.
-Rickon will undoubtedly be a badass.
Plus they all have pet direwolves that they warg into.

I'm going to go with the Greyjoys, almost every Greyjoy we've been introduced to in the series is ridiculously badass. After them probably the Starks, as bad as some of their decisions have been, they definitely don't lack courage.

The Starks. Hands down.

The Martells will poison you (if they get around to it), the Baratheons will stab you (if you're still around after they've talked your ear off about how awesome they are), the Greyjoys will boast about how awesome they are and then promptly get their asses royally kicked (like they always do), the Lannisters will try to buy you off and then whine and bitch when you refuse to die, the Tyrells will spend so much time standing around and posing in their flowery armor and capes that their enemies will just wander away in disgust. The Targaryens might send a fire-breathing dragon against you, but there's an even better chance that they'll set themselves on fire or, like, rub soup in their hair. The Arryns are called the Lords of Mountain and Vale but they can't even control the damn mountains. The Tullys spend all their time doing exactly what older Houses tell them to do.

The Starks can kill you with their brains. They rule more actual territory than any other House (even the Targaryens, whose "supremacy" over the Seven Kingdoms only went as far as their lords allowed, and notice how when the Great Lords and the Targs conflicted, the Targs got their asses kicked off the damn continent), and they've ruled their territory longer than anyone else. They have a long and storied history of thriving in weather conditions that would break their fellow Great Lords. Each of Ned's kids is more badass than the last---assassin prodigy, greenseer, teenage prodigy conqueror (who Tywin Lannister had to break all the laws of gods and men to kill), budding spymistress, budding cannibal, whatever the hell Jon is, and all of them uber-powerful wargs. Not only do their bannermen adore them, but the incredibly stubborn guys whose asses they've been kicking since the Dawn of Days actually seem to think they're awesome. The Lannisters command people like the Crakehalls and the Swyfts, the Arryns command the Royces and the Hunters, the Tullys have people like the Mallisters and the Freys, the Martells have the Yronwoods and the Ullers, and who do the Starks command? The Starks command the Manderlys, the Umbers, the Reeds, the Mormonts---each of their bannermen is more terrifying than the last.

When a Greyjoy says "I am a kraken", he/she means "I attack from the sea and then disappear, like a kraken". When a Lannister says "I am a lion", he/she means "I am golden, proud, and think I'm better than everyone else". When a Stark says "I am a direwolf", he/she means "Yesterday from the hours of 2 am until about 6ish, I was a direwolf. I plan on being a direwolf again tomorrow around lunchtime. Right now, I'm also being a direwolf, and I can smell what you had for breakfast and my teeth can shred your intestines like tissue paper." I mean, no other House can really say this---maybe one or two have a skinchanger hiding among them, but nobody else can claim every single remaining member as a skinchanger.

Agreed, just have to add even their words show it because a badass doesn't worry about what others think. The Starks leave it to others to boast about how they're this or how they're that or how they want you to hear them roar. Not the the Starks. Winter is coming.

For individual members, the Greyjoys are badass, man. No matter what you may think of them as people, they are tough.

I wasn't convinced at first but I'm going to agree now. As a whole, the Starks are pretty intense.
