most "badass" family?

Badass in the political maneuvering way: Tyrell.I think they are brilliant in such a way that hasn't even fully been revealed to us yet. They have managed to completely play the Lannisters and now they stand at the end of ADwD as the most powerful family in the realm. They control King's Landing. Margaery is Queen, Mace is Hand and two of their faithful bannermen sit on the Small Council. They have replaced the majority of the Gold Cloaks with their own men and have effectively gained almost complete control of King's Landing. With Kevan gone, they're grip on Tommen is complete. They also have the largest fighting force in the Kingdoms Their only equals were the Lannisters and they have been battered and beaten down at every angle.

Yeah but they're still sewer rats. No matter what you think of Joffrey they came as guests under his roof and poisened the boy. It's likely that a very small part of the family was involved but I still see them as a more cowardly version of the Lannisters.

The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword. If you would take a man's life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his final words. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die.
And not to mention the stark's direwolf.

The Greyjoys are weak and about to be swatted by the Tyrells.
The Baratheons are virtually dead, with only Stannis and Shireen left, stuck outside Winterfell in a snow storm.
All the decent Lannisters are dead.
Quentyn and Oberyn Martell are dead, Doran Martell is crippled. The Sand Snakes and Arianne are cool, but not as cool as the Starks.
The Tyrells are lead by a brain dead oaf, their most cunning family member is an old woman, one of them is dying on Dragonstone, the girl is up for trial. Willas is a cripple and Garlan isn't really involved in much at the moment.
On the other hand....
Sansa Stark is being set up to lead the Lords of the Vale into the Riverlands and the North and spark up a new rebellion against Tommen.
Bran Stark is about to become the most powerful magical being in Westeros. Not only can he warg the best out of the Starks, but he is about to become a Greenseer, meaning that if he wanted to, he could raise mountains, spark earthquakes and tsunamis and smash people with storms.
Arya Stark is becoming a deadly assassin trained in the arts of the Faceless Men.
Rickon Stark is on an island full of savages, who are probably joining his cause to reclaim the North for the Starks.
Catelyn Stark is an undead pyschopath who enjoys murdering people in her spare time.

Also the Greyjoys. The Martells have the potential but they seem to hatch plans that don't follow through to fruition, probably because they aren't very good plans. The Lannisters have badass members but the family as a whole...mmm...nah (same with the Martells and Baratheons).
The Tyrells are conniving but too wishy-washy. Not really a facet of badassery, IMO.

Jeor kicks ass. Maege, Dacey, and Alysane are all warrior women. Jorah looks bad next to these people, which is saying quite a lot.
SmallJon defended Robb to the last breath. I would hate to face Mors in battle, he is both an able fighter and commander (TWOW gift chapter shows this quite well). Whoresbane is capable and only defends Bolton to keep GreatJon alive; also this from the wiki (if you are familiar with the Northern Lords Conspiracy Theory, you will understand):
"Theon spots [Whoresbane] talking quietly with Harwood Stout the morning after the wedding" and
"According to Lady Dustin, Hother would love to kill Hosteen and Aenys Frey"
Finally, the GreatJon is, well, the GreatJon.

Secondly, where they live: Fertile farmlands? Gold rich hills? Fuck off. They'll have stormwrecked forests with names like "Shipbreaker bay" or equally storm wrecked, infertile islands, thank you very much.

I'd have to say the Greyjoys though. For obvious reasons.
Least badass? The Starks, easily. And maybe the Tyrells. But yea, the Starks do not have a single "badass" character in their family and they are also pretty dense to be honest. Littlefinger was right. All temper, no brains. All they've done is get themselves killed out of honor. How is that cool? I like the Starks, though. They are very likeable. They are the heroes of the story. But "badass" is just an insane stretch.

To me it's a race between the Greyjoys and the Boltons. The Greyjoys just go balls to the wall with everything they do, and most of them are of questionable sanity. They might get the edge over the Boltons just because they have more badass living members, whereas the Boltons only have one.
In the long view, though, it's the Boltons all the way. They live in the damn Dreadfort and decorate their walls with the skins of their overlords' ancestors. In a region of psycho-tough macho barbarians, Roose Bolton is the most intimidating, and he can't be bothered to raise his voice above a whisper.

Forgot about the Boltons.
I agree about the term badass. I never think of the purely good guys (Starks in this case) as "badass." Then again, the Blackfish is pretty cool, but we barely see him and most people just think that because of his name.

Lann is tricksy no doubt but badass is winning an island in a wrestling match.
One of the better Lannister stories is Tywin breaking the lord down that joked about him with nothing but a stare. That's ruthless.

The Lannisters just seem so powerful I always thought of them as badass.
I guess cunning would be a better word to describe them. The Greyjoys burning the fleet in Lannisport always seemed badass. Damn, I love the Greyjoys.

We know of 5:
1) The baddest man ever.
2) The most dangerous man in Dorne.
3) Young guy who made people sit up and take notice in like half a page.
4) The beauty who melted hearts like Ned Stark and Barristan the Bold, who may have gone out like a Bronte character.
5) An almost unknown whose only recorded fact is that she was betrothed to an immortal.
Also, the house sword comes from a fallen star.
I think we're done.

I don't know, Tywin's pretty badass, here's a guy that shaves his head because he won't tolerate shirking even from his own hair.

I'd like to introduce you to Arya, a 9 year old child that has killed a half dozen people and she's @ 4 feet tall. And a girl. PS: She's now a Faceless Man at the age of 11.
And Robb, the 15 year old boy that decides to secede the North from the South ( which is never a wussy endeavor)
And Jon, the 14 year old that kills a Wight and becomes the Commander at 15.
And Rickon the wild child, that hangs out in crypts at the age of 4. Crypts that make grown men nervous.
Stay tuned for Sansa and Bran's bad-assery. Their time to shine will come.
Pffft. Even Old Nan is a badass.
