Hi All,

I started reading GoT just before the TV series and have carried on.  Just got to the Red Wedding and I don't know what to do with myself.  I thought I could see just where the plot was going, but what a thing to happen.  Sorry, I'm not making much sense.  I'm not even sure I want to carry on reading it anymore, don't know what to do with myself!

Keep reading. Take some time off if you need to, but you have to keep reading.

We need an "It get's better" campaign for people who have just read the Red Wedding.

First time I read it I literally set the book right down and went for a walk :P

Many a reader have thrown their books away because of that chapter. Its okay. Take a deep breathe. Go for a walk. Maybe return to it in a couple of days, take your time. I'm not saying it gets better (lol this is GRRM) but it gets a lot more fascinating.

Throw the book in the nearest fire, run shrieking through the streets and get counseling as soon as possible. :P

I was literally stunned after that chapter. With my mouth open in disbelief for about 5 minutes, trying to comprehend what just happened. After that I started fearing for everyones life in the books. Let's just say, Martin didn't disappoint on that front ...

Trust me, keep reading, soon happiness shall return.

Nothing I've read or seen in any work of fiction has had such an impact on me. I was almost in shock. Couldn't believe what I was reading. Funny thing, in retrospect, Martin kept dropping hints for two books and still took me by total surprise. Something that can do that is worth reading.

I was just recalling my agony over the red wedding since I was just at the hardest deaths thread, tis a horrible, horrible time in one's life.

I literally didn't pick the book back up for a month. My love for Robb made me contemplate just reading chapters with him most likely in it to get my Robb addiction satisfied before reading the book as a whole.

As Apple Martini said, take some time, but definitely keep reading. When you finish that book you'll be glad you did.

I had to skip to the contents to see if there was another Arya chapter.  I don't think I could cope if she went too.  Well at the same time anyway.  I now know nothing is sacred!!

There is one good thing about the Red Wedding...........once you've read that, a ton of other stuff that happens doesn't hurt as much as it would if the RW hadn't come first.  It's the whole what doesn't kill you makes you stronger attitude.  Or the Drowned God refrain about what's dead may never die but rises again harder and stronger.  The RW will make you stronger and better able to weather the struggles ahead.

Try to recognize the faults in the characters that have just died to the point that you no longer love them, but instead despise them. With this action you will soon see the Red Wedding not as a tragedy, but as a victory!

A nice cup of tea, a few deep breaths and plow on through. It's still grimm, but some things improve.

I did the exact same thing!  I could not have kept reading if Arya had died there, that would have been just too much for me to handle.

What's amazing is that when you reread the series you see that GRRM was dropping tons of hints that it was going to happen as far back as ACOK (I'm not sure if there were any hints in AGOT), yet I did not notice any of them on my first read through.  I felt like such an idiot, but I'm much more wary now when it comes to dreams and visions in ASOIAF.

and some other don't :D

I wasn't so devastated by the RW itself as much as I was with Arya waiting outside....
