Bliz was pretty saavy in having the community do most of the footwork in design and coding for them - then sweeping in to do 'official' versions of the more popular mods.
I'd like a way to change the group panel so that my HP is showing as well - I died a few times because I was looking more at the group than my own health.

That was always my problem when healing raids in WoW. Hey, things are going pretty well, my group's - CRAP. I didn't even think of that solution, just tried to pay more attention.
In other news, I'm off Taris (finally) and, wow, I love the IA storyline. I don't even mind the travel to go do things because I just imagine my character is on a mission to figure some of this shizz out.

That's why I am sticking to DPS toons this time around FINALLY!!
That said, it's probably just a matter of time before we get that sort of thing. My estimate is that it should come within 6 months or so in order to compete with WoW's Kung-Fu Panda patch.
Merrin,
Glad you are liking the IA story, I am really enjoying it too

Indeed, very encouraging for an MMO so shortly after launch. Will nonetheless be awhile until the game makes money, but I think it'll prove critics wrong and do just that.
As to the army of detractors, they are indeed legion. From my experience they fall into a few easy to spot categories - Bioware haters, graphics junkies (who probably have no business playing MMOs in the first place), and hardcore WoW players being overly defensive about a possible threat to their game's dominance. I largely ignore all three.

People need to give the game time to grow before they /rage-quit.
Scratch that - I don't want those kinds of people in my game anyway.

Good to know I'm not the only one. Thankfully, a Cata patch let you use the fancy new raid UI for 5 mans, which puts your health in the party area as well.
And that's how I finally stopped dying all the time while healing.

Agreed on all counts.
And there is plenty of leveling content, especially considering that the journey to max level is no walk in the park (certainly much less so than modern-day WoW, which is a complete joke). My sister had never played a PC game more complicated than freaking Myst, and she had a toon to 85 in WoW within 2 months of first learning how to move her character around. No challenge - no fun.
As to endgame content, TOR has tons more than WoW did at launch. And besides, people are always going to bitch about endgame content, so that point is essentially moot.

I've also been making a tidy profit on the galatic market, all in all one happy bounty hunter

Makes perfect sense because that's exactly what I do, heh.
I'm sure I spend a lot more time playing MMOs than some who have their toons in full progression gear with everything min/maxed, etc. Different goals, I guess.

Too bad for TOR that WOW didn't launch a month ago then. People will compare a game to it's alternatives. This is the only sensible thing to do.
This game has the standard hate parade that you see from any new MMO, with bonuses for being made by EA and Bioware and involving Star Wars. At the same time, the game also has a legion of ardent fanboys for the exact same reason. Never have I seen so many people jump to the defense of a lack of expected MMO features or, even more hilariously, to defend issues as "feature, not bug/oversight/etc" that Bioware has themselves admitted are bugs or oversights or the like.
There's many legitimate complaints about the game, although many Bioware is at least already fixing. 1.2 is rolling out in a month or two I believe and depending on what's in it, that's a decent pace for new shit. Of course, at the same time, most of this shit is stuff that was supposed to be in for launch that ended up not making it because EA was intent on rushing the game out the door for the holidays.
All in all, it's good to see the game doing well.

Casual gamers make up the bulk of MMORPG profit, and thankfully SWTOR is pretty casual friendly. It's not like in WoW where it is a bitch to go through content and enjoy it if you are way behind the leveling pack. That's why WoW's leveling had to be easy, since it wasn't really enjoyable much past release.
The interesting thing about MMORPGs is that they definitely grow over time if they're popular. Like WoW didn't finish year 1 with 10 million subscribers... but added over time. SWTOR will end up doing the same. 3 years from now, they may have 10 million subs as well.

WoW's leveling content is virtually all solo and has been for awhile now. Being behind the leveling curve is utterly irrelevant.

This is true, but at the same time, it shipped with a lot of the "core features" we have come to expect from WoW. Like battlegrounds (warzones), end game raids (I'd say the amount of raids are about on par with WoW MC time at least and more is on the go). None of that was even in WoW at launch. But as you say, if they keep at it with the bugs and add more features, I can't see a reason for it to fail really.
I also think where it wins is not necessarily at being more polished than WoW, but to add something fresh and a new sense of community that's just been gone in WoW for ages and ages.
Perhaps it's because of censorship, but I have seen next to no trolling in General chat in SWTOR either. Even tho I play on an RP server in WoW, the General chat trolling is just....awful. Whether in raid instances or Orgrimmar, it feels WoW is just shock full with lolbois, pre-teen muppets, trolls, whiny pvp gits and anal/dirge spammers.
SWTOR has so far been much nicer and more laid back without the hysterical overtones I have come to see as normal. It's a nice and refreshing change, even if I am now a super casual instead of a raider.
My SO is convinced SWTOR will do well since I have been a loyal Blizzard sub since X-mas 2005 but am now cancelled.

Although they have managed one spectacular feat, in that the TOR official boards are actually worse then WoW's.

Seriously, no joke, I have no seen ANY trolling in General on either server. Sure, I don't spend my evenings in the Fleet on either server, but I spent a lot of time on Coruscant and on Dromund Kaas. I've seen discussions there about Sith warrior specs which got rather heated, some Bounty Hunter DPS vs tanking spec argument and what is more OP and also the classic "Why oh why can't I romance Khem Val?" but that's not really trolling per see.

I am also quick to ignore people. Frankly I hit ignore the moment someone even slighty gets on my nerves, I've little time for MMO asshats anymore.
I am enjoying this one though and I am not a big fan of ethier star wars, or recent bioware games.
