For me, I thought blood oranges from Dorne sounded fascinating, I imagined them as being, well, blood red oranges. It wasn't until two days ago when I peeled what seemed like a regular looking orange and saw red and purple pulp beneath. I asked someone if it was rotten and they said 'No, that's a blood orange.' and I just stood there exaspherating and said "They're real?!" It wasn't until my initial amazement subsided when I realized how slow I was in that moment.

I was at my biology class and teacher mentioned obsidian and I was like "OMG, it's real!".

This - almost word for word. I don't know how I could have missed it. I'm now progressing through a reread at a painstakingly slow pace to make sure I haven't missed anything else!

I DO however feel a bit foolish that I never picked up that Arstan Whitebeard was Barristan Selmy. I have no idea why. It does not seem obvious that he was, I don't recall any clues but the moment he revealed himself I was like "Of COURSE it is!"
Oh, and while I feel the hints (if they are hints) about R+L=J were too subtle to feel foolish about missing, I do agree that I accepted Roberts evaluation that Lyanna had been raped and murdered at face value, even when it became clear that Robert m,ight jsutbe one of thsoe men who was an expert at believing what he wanted to believe. So, I DO feel foolish for never thinking to question if Jon was Neds son or not.

A few things I missed were: Abel being Mance, Frey Pies, Barristan/Whitebeard, and I never realized that Jaquen H'ghar was the guy who killed Tate in the prologue in AFFC

I have to say that I first believed King Bob, then when other characters were commenting on what a decent guy Rhagear was I became suspicious. Then when Lyanna cried at Harrenhall after he played his harp I was convinced they ran away together. Then I started searching the internet, and thenk the gods I found this forum. Then I was very surprised to find out that Jon may be Lyanna's son. I caught that the ran off together but I never caught the thing with Jon. Ned was to noble to lie so I never thought about it. I like to think maybe I would have made the connection on a reread though.

WHAT. It would appear that I've just learned something else x)
I like to think of myself as quite a good reader, but gods, I missed out on A LOT. Never picked up on R+L=J or Frey Pies either, not a clue until I found this forum.
Quite clearly, I read too fast. Making myself read slower on this reread; it hurts, but I'm definitely picking up on a lot more. Damn GRRM, why'd you have to be all cryptic..
