I must admit that personally I want Jon to die, not because I don't like him. Personally I really like him and his character, it's just that all of the resurrections in the series make me doubt the finality of death. If we take for instance Ser Gregor's death, he was then almost immediately resurrected by Qyburn, I don't like the easy resurrections as someone coming from a non-fantasy reading background. However I understand that George is damned if he does resurrect people earlier and damned if he doesn't. If he doesn't bring back Beric and Uncat then Jon's resurrection is a Deus Ex Machina, and if he does bring them back then I call him out for making me doubt the finality of death. As a narrative tool, I want Jon Snow to die or for Stannis to have to die to bring Jon Snow back.

What's your opinion on this guys? Do you think that he has to die, can Melisandre bring him back and if so, will she need a 'King's Blood to do so?' (This takes for granted that Jon definitely dies at the end of ADwD)

I would be angry and consider it bad writing if Jon dies permanently and we don't see him again while I was surprised and considered it good writing when Rob died.

I am pretty sure that Jon in some way will continue existing after his death which death I see happening and through it he escapes the vows. I don't expect Jon to die permanently.

Jon Snow should be Azhor Azhai reborn. His character would be useless if he dies here. Unlike Robb who had played his part.

Yeah, I'd never actually made the connection with the vows "it shall not end until my death" and Jon, thanks man.

If Jon Snow finally bites it I will be overjoyed and will probably make a short dance where I am (as long as it isn't a public space with people present )! Then I will hit my stereo and turn on "Another one bites the dust" and rejoice for the rest of that day. Honestly I would be thrilled if Jon dies because then I would know for certain that the situation is still sharp and that Martin hasn't retired into the comfort zone of Plot Armour +1000 for all major characters.

And there's no telling to how much interesting stuff that can go down over at the Wall and in the North if Jon is down. I predict glorious chaos! Stannis will likely be fucked but that's one we'll all have to take in the interest of great reading.

No. Because I would feel like I have wasted so much of my time reading about a character who has such a complex history and potential future, for it all to end in nothing, with no consequence.

I never liked Jon or his story; I actually giggled in evil delight when they went all Caesar on him.

Maybe his "oh woe is me I have daddy issues and now I have to be a MAN"  thing is just too trite to a female reader, I don't know. However I fully expect to be disappointed; GRRM is leaning too heavily on the "HA thought I was dead, did ya?" crutch lately. But I can hope!

I'd rather have him die than become a Jonsicle like some people theorize, I'd rather have him live as more or less the same character, just a little bit wiser with a few more scars.

No way, Jon has to live! I know with other characters (such as Cat and Gregor), I've been a bit miffed off by GRRM bringing characters back to life again, but I actively want him to do so for Jon - and we all know he will.

Also, if he dies and is then resurrected, that gives him a loop hole to leave the NW - besides, would anyone want to remain in a place where a bunch of people want to stab you?

No! Jon can't die just like that, his story it's not over. I admit that I'm a freaking fangirl when it comes to Jon but it would just feel like such an absurd waste of time and space writing his character to make him die that way.

We know that he does kill off important characters, but that only had its edge when it was new and unexpected, I feel that if Jon dies George would just be reminding us "Yeah I still do that." instead of it being purposeful and necessary for the plot. Jon didn't even act like himself and it seemed like that order of events was designed to see him die.

I'd almost rather he be dead than have to read the now inevitable Jon as Ghost chapters that are coming...but I do love Jon Snow and I want things to turn out well for him in the end so, no, I don't want him to die.

I agree. I would be disappointed. Not so much that Jon dies, but that he dies for no good reason except some of his brothers are pissed off at him.

If Jon dies, I want it to be for something great and meaningful.

Of course I do, he's a boring cliche, his storyline is even more boring, and I really hate the resurrections, fake deaths and misleading cliffhangers which Martin has overused in the last few volumes.If Jon is killed by Marsh and the others and stays dead for good that would be awesome.

I think Jon has way too important of a role to play to get killed off. We still don't know the truth about his birth, and there's been so much buildup to Jon fighting the Others when they strike that I really doubt GRRM actually killed him. I think the assassination attempt will serve as the catalyst for the collapse of the Wall--I think when Melisandre and the Wildlings realize what happened, the Night's Watch doesn't stand a chance. I don't buy that it's just a way to honorably free Jon from his vows because he technically died either--I think it's a way of finally getting the Others beyond the Wall where they can wreak some real havoc.

And what if Jon doesn't die? Just because he was stabbed doesn't mean he'll actually die. Though I have a feeling Melisandre will resurrect him, and that she might have to sacrifice someone to do it... If I were Shireen, I'd stay as far away from her as possible.

I think Jon is Dead but Melisandre can bring him back through her Rollo from Sanford and Son magic.

I don't want Jon or any other good person in the arc to die, but that is not real life nor is it good English literature.

I don't want Jon to die, but I also don't want him to be revived in any way. I just think that's a weak way to go with him. We've had enough revivals imo.

What I really want is to see that he was injured but lives through it -- I *want* him to struggle with his staying true to his vows vs. what's going on south of the Wall.

I think that's where the real character of him comes in.

To have him conveniently released from his vows... warged into Ghost and have Mel revive him?? I think it's weak and so very cliche.

Let him make these hard choices. Let his struggle to overcome. Let's see him make adult, honorable-man choices. Let him EARN what will (with little doubt) be his place as a Targ.

If he stays a live than all these people in this thread moaning about him would be disappointed which would be worth it all on its own.

Of course if he dies, it seems to me that there was a lot of buildup of his character with a lot of potential to lead somewhere epic in the plot (where upon he can die if need be) but in this circumstance its just foolish.  Its like Tyrion suddenly dying of the bloody flux, a meaningless death.

I'm also wondering why everyone is assuming that Ser Gregor was brought back from the dead, there was no proof of that in aDwD, jut a slight assumption from a helmeted large man now with Ceresi.  For that matter there was no real proof he actually died in the first place.
