Sometimes truly random things happen in this game- from the Paradox Interactive forum, this is one of the funniest screenshots I've seen anyone take so far.  The Golden Horde of the Mongol invaders conquered and vassalized a massive stretch of land  from Sibera, through Findland, all the way to the edge of Germany, and thankfully for Europe, this somehow happened:

Surprisingly not that random. Christianity was surprisingly popular amongst the Mongol dynasties, and while they didn't convert en-masse, a fairly strong Christian minority developed through out Asia due to their protection/patronage.

Its a pretty cool outcome, if that happens in your game you could save, load the file, and play as the Mongols now that they are christians.

For my next campaign I might try to unite all of Russia and see if I can stand up against the Mongol horde.  It won't be easy, they spawn with about 100,000 soldiers.

Downloaded the demo and it was all going great but then the tutorial bugged out during the movement and combat phase. It wouldn't change from "don't forget to unpause" despite me clicking pause multiple times.

I take it less buggy then usual means not quite gamebreaking then.

Yeah, that kept happening to me, too. I finally just threw my hands up and went on to the other tutorials. I started playing as the Sancho, King of Castile. It's a bit tougher since you are surrounded by crowned siblings and the Muslim Infidels.

Hmm, try pressing the space bar to unpause, maybe? I dunno, never tried the tutorial, they're almost always terrible for Paradox games.  I know the game itself is practically bug free (though the demo version is slightly older than the release version).

That happens to a lot of people. There are some controls in the lower left of the screen that might allow you to bypass this problem.

I have been trying to get a feel from the quiet corner of the Duchy of Holland. Safe enough in the HRE from attacks, but with a good enough (and unmarried/underage at the start) ruler to be able to get the connection game going. In my few false starts he has been proven to be long-lived and fertile.

I've been playing as Georgia. It seems like a nice straightforward starting place for the moment - at the beginning everyone around you is either your friend or much weaker than you, and all of your courtiers seem to love you! I got to beat up on a few territories I had de jure on - was a good way to get a feel for the game. Of course, I can imagine once the Mongol Horde starts coming things could be rather different...

Also, my son is a whiny little bitch...just hope the ruler of the Byzantine Empire doesn't think so once he comes to power.

Georgia is in a tough spot!  I've heard a lot of people have a tough time with them thanks to their giant muslim neighbors.

Hmm, I'll have to keep an eye out then ;). Unfortunately my computer has been having BSOD issues recently, which in practice means I tend to only be able to play about 30 minutes at a time before it crashes on me. But it always leaves me wanting more damnit!

Thanks to the skills of my Marshal and a rigorous campaign by my Steward to make up claims Conan of Brittany is now almost King of Ireland and after one more hopefully successful assassination his children will be first in line to inherit the Throne of Navarre

Boy, spare the rod, spoil the prince. Was playing as Castile and kicking ass. Gave my heir a duchy and the little bastard started a civil war that brought in every Catholic faction on the peninsula. The Muslims had to be laughing as they invaded the lands they had lost. :bang:

If they managed to make a game that combines the intrigue and vassalage system of this game with the battles of total war my strategy game needs would be sated for life.

Started as the Duke of Upper Lorraine. My first character was rather old though so after about three years he died and under his son, I gained the Duchy of Alsace. Also under this son, Dietrich, I added a couple minor baronies. Dietrich's son lived to be 25, but died before his dad. So after Dietrich died at 70, I became his grandson Otto. Otto was a minor initially, but soon under the guise of Holy War he had gained the Duchy of Estonia and Liviionia. Why was I going after Duchies hundreds of miles away, my dead wife left me claims and counties up there. So maybe twenty years pass, somehow I entered a war with the King of Denmark and won, and just as I have finished putting down a revolt my character is voted to Kaiser of the HRE. I was not expecting that. But now I am Kaiser so it's all good.

That would be awesome,  Unfortunately Creative Assembly doesn't seem to be moving toward this goal, their newer releases seem to focus on less strategy and character based mechanics in favor of more mainstream games like Shogun 2.  Would Paradox ever release a game with battles like Total War?  I don't know, they would need vastly expanded recourses compared to what they have now.  Maybe if we all buy 20 copies of CK2.

I don't think i'm very good at this game. Because it was my first time i picked the king of Poland, the easiest option i could find, and i spent my twenty years throwing tournaments and being awesome and generally just absolutely loved by everybody. Then i lost all of my land and the game was over, wha ? Does the demo have a time limit on it or something ? In the end i had or score of 900 which is meant to be pretty terrible, i saw scores of 100k.

The demo ends after 20 years, the message that "you lost your land and your dynasty faded away" is just the message that shows up when you quit the game, because Paradox is mean or something.  Getting 900 prestige for your first character is quite good for your first time.  The 100,000 is just something to aim for, those are the ratings the game gives to real life succesful dynasties like the Habsburgs.  The number you get will come from the total score of ALL of your leaders over the 400 years of the game.
