Just bought this today based on the thread. Holy damn was I unprepared for the complexity of the interface and the detail in the controls. I only had enough time tonight to go through the tutorials :-P

Please post all of your crazy stories. Sometimes I find with these games that the overall story of a kingdom/empire is almost more interesting than playing the game.

I'm not going to lie to you, I'm amazed.  How do you amass land so quickly?  Because of the war rules as the Duke of Connacht I barely have 4 Irish territories 3 gens in.  I cannot make fake claims fast enough

Became King of Navarre by marrying one of his daughters and assassinating all other heirs so Conan's son became the next king. It was a long run and mainly thanks to my rather good spymaster and his eldest son dying in a war with other Spanish people. My Steward spent almost every waking moment up in Ireland making fake claims then taking each Irish lord on by himself with my own troops and the cheapest Sellswords I could find.

Yeah, that's impressive, im 100 years into the game and only became King very recently, and there are still 3 territories in the island that are independent (though i have 3 territories in the southern part of Wales). You must be very crafty with marriage and diplomacy ^^

I only know how to use violence

Man is this game ADDICTING!!!

My second attempt at a Castille kingdom was going well until the king promptly dropped dead at the age of 27. His son was only 4 and the realm again was plunged into civil war as his uncles rebelled. So I went for a third and this one is going quite well. My king's German wife has had 8 children, 3 boys and 5 girls which is a good thing. As Daeron II pointed out, too many sons is just as dangerous as 2 few!

1.  How do you make that much gold for the assassinations?

2.  How do you place Steward/Marshal in command of armies?

Yes I know, I suck at the game.  Addictive though.

1. Good Spymaster lowers price for assassination, plus it helped there were only about four people needing to be assassinated to get my heir the throne.
2. My Marshal takes control automatically not sure about Steward

Good question-

You've probably already noticed that you can take territory from christians when you have a Ducal claim and they have land considered part of that duchy, or when your chancellor forges a claim in a certain province,  But those can be unreliable- one of the best ways to take provinces from christians is by pressing claims.

When you start out, there won't be a lot of people with conflicting claims to the same territory, but as the game goes on the number grows.  To find people that have claims to a county or duchy, click on any province and you will see a coat of arms shield for the county it makes up and the duchy it belongs to.  Click on either one and you will see information about the county/duchy.  Click on the "claimants" button and it will show you everyone in the game who has claim to that titles.  What you want to do is press the claim on their behalf- win the war and it will put them into power as your vassal (assuming your rank is higher than theirs, kings>dukes and dukes>counts).  To press a claim, I believe they need to be male (though females can pass on the claim to their kids), and they need to be in your court.  In the "claimants" menu you will see a green thumbs up on the character portrait if they will accept your invitation to join your court.  Sometimes you can increase the chance that they will join by giving them gifts to raise their opinion of you, but the best way to get them to come if through a matrilineal marriage.  This isnt as easy in the new patch as it used to be, as men will only accept matrilineal marriages with important characters like your daughters or sisters, but if you can get a claimant to agree to one he will join your court and you can press the claim on his behalf.

I've got to get this game now since playing the Demo has shown it has improved a lot over the first one. Didn't get a lot down in the demo, but was well on my way had I not been limited to 20 years.

I was playing as the Duke of Barcelona and doing well, just started my second generation. Suddenly three Muslim powers are all invading me with improbably large armies, my new Duke is injured in battle, and all of my levies from all my provinces are wiped out.

How on earth do you earn money more quickly?

Money is tough.  You want the best steward you can, and you want to set them to collecting taxes in your wealthiest province.  In the laws menu you can raise feudal taxes, church taxes, and/or city taxes, though each one comes with certain hits to relations.  If you need money in an emergency, look in the ledger for your vassal panel- pick the richest one, throw him in jail, and banish him to confiscate all of his money.  Obviously if you don't actually have a reason to arrest him this will hurt your other vassals' opinions of you.  Any time you have someone in jail its a good idea to either banish or ransom them for gold.

Also certain technologies increase taxes, click a magnifying class on one in each category to focus on it.  Tech isnt really a big part of this game but it does make a difference in the long run.

Cities provides the most money, so if you have to choose, raise city taxes. (They also provide crap levies, so might even be worth it to lower their levy rate)

In Dues Vult I was forced into having my character's own mother assassinated after she kept on making demands and trying to get rid of my competent advisors

And that was AFTER i had named my Mother a Countess and the Grandmother a Duchess, go figure, i think i gave them too much power.

By the way, Ireland is indeed a great place to start, a lot smoother than continental europe (looks like a freaking killing field, is war against everyone all the time, why do they enjoy kiling each other so much, its crazy!!), and England (all your vassals are secretly trying to break the record of how many different ways to kill you).

btw, you guys saw this video?

This is hilarious, kinda like im feeling right now.
