I disagree.  I think being a guard is what he is more suited for.  He is more likely to have a one on one fight this way, which is what he is used to.  He also isn't asked to work as a unit with others which is what he would be asked ot do in a van.  From what we know Belwas has very little war experience, I just don't know how well his fighting style would transfer to a Westeros style war.  I could see the knights riding him down within seconds.  He would be much more suited to be a Champion like he was used in the books and in a rear guard.

I dont think that was really it at all. I know barristan said all that, and he did win, but honestly, the reason why he won was because of the weapon the man used, not his skill or lack of skill against armored opponets. He used an arakh, same weapon he told the dude in AGoT that wouldn't work against a knight. It is made for slicing, and peircing like a sword. And that is the sole reason Barristan won the fight, the weapon. Though this is kind of moot isn't it..IIRC isn't Belwas weapon of choice the Arakh also?

All this talk of Barristan and Strong Belwas just makes me want them to get to SoS in the TV show so I can see them start to kick ass.

I love Stong Belwas!

As a brilliant fighter, he's of obvious use to Dany.

Second, he used to be a pit fighter in Mereen, so he knows his way around Slaver's Bay.

Third, the much-needed comic relief he provides makes Dany's (infuriatingly) interminable stay in Slaver's Bay almost bearable.

And unlike the Duke, I hope that there will be no Belwas vs. Hotah action in any of the next books.... I like both characters. If I had to, though, I'd put my gold on Hotah.... the axe has a longer reach and I think a sort of warrior-monk more formidable than a former pit fighter, even though Belwas must have killed scores of fighters.
