Does anyone know how far into the book the comics/volume 1 of the graphic novel of AGOT make it? If there are going to be a dozen volumes I will just wait several years and buy the complete graphic novel when it eventually comes out.

I asked this question in the other 'comics' thread, but nobody answered.

If it is indeed something like 4 volumes, I would not entirely count on them releasing an "omnibus" edition.

The first graphic novel collection contains the first six issues of the comic series. The next collection coming in November will contain issues 7-12. The series is scheduled to run to 24 issues that cover all of Game of Thrones. The remaining 12 issues will be collected in two further compilations (published in six months intervals). Wether the four collections will ultimately be collected in one single collection, I have no idea.

Have any of you bothered reading some of these comics?
If you guys are speaking of the ones released by Dynamite I'm of the opinion that it sucks.
The art is painfully monotonous and really does not do GRRM's creativeness any favours.
The story doesn't go anywhere that the books or the show have.

It's a real shame, they should have gotten the team's responsible for adapting Stephen King's Dark Tower comics involved.

I just got an early copy of the graphic novel. It ends with Cat coming to to King's Landing and then with Dany knowing she's pregnant.

There is also an nice insider's look at the making of the graphic novel with commentary from Anne Groell (series editor), Tommy Patterson (artist) and Daniel Abraham (adapter).

I got this book today!  And it's a pretty good deal, if you ask me, $13 on Amazon, compared to the $25 list price inside the book. Obviously, I can't give much of an opinion yet, but it looks pretty awesome!  They also have quite a large chunk dedicated to the making of the graphic novel.

It says Volume 2 comes out in December 2012.

Read the first couple of issues, but what a disappointment. The scenery is generic Hollywood medieval and nowhere as interesting as the show - such a shame given that the artist has an 'unlimited budget'  ...
And the characters - aarggh. They all look the same. The kids look like stunted adults, and if it wasn't for the difference in hair colour I doubt I could tell Cersei and Catelyn apart. Never mind that Patterson's 'pneumatic Cat' is just wrong - sure she's attractive, but she's also supposed to be a middle-aged mother of five, not a teenage gym bunny with bouncy implants. Bah. One of the things I like about the books is that every character, no matter how minor, is unique - and I don't see that reflected in the artwork at all ... :bang:

Well, actually in the ASOIAF novels. Catelyn isnt middle aged for our contemporary time. Maybe middle aged for medieval history...
I believe in the books she is somewhere in her 30's much like Ned.

Beyond that I do agree with you on Tommy Patterson's art. It seems more and more people arent afraid to express the negatives. I do truly hope they find a different artist when they adapt book 2 into comics. Patterson is even quoted in an interview that his art style is more super hero style. That's not really suited to this gritty fantasy epic.

Interesting. Well, at least he's conscious of it, but nevertheless ... what a shame. I don't go to ASOIAF for strapping lantern-jawed heroes and identikit princesses after all.

And yes, I meant "middle-aged' by Westerosi standards - characters' looks should reflect the conditions they live in, I guess. Just look at old photographs from the nineteenth century for thirty-somethings who look like they're 50.

I think Cately was suppiosed to be in her mid-thirties. I know it says Ned is 35, so I assume she's around that age. I haven't picked up the comics and am a little disappointed on the artwork. As as a comic book fan I'm familiar w/how bad artwork can totally ruin the product.
