True Blood Season 5

First big news: Alan Ball has stepped down as showrunner/producer following the completion of work on Season 5. He will retain a consultant/advisory credit on Season 6, but nothing more than that. Ball is instead working on a new series, Banshee, for Cinemax and is also developing a drama series about an abortion doctor (which sounds like it will be controversial and inflammatory, right up HBO's alley). His replacement on the show has not been announced but HBO have indicated the rest of the production and writing team will stay in place.

That's about where I'm at. I suppose there's always a chance I'll keep going just because it's HBO and it's Sunday night, but my interest waned quite a bit in S4.

Best line of season four:
*Sam turns away from his brother's dead body to peer out the window*
Sam: "I'm so fucking sad."
The subtlety of the show's writing in later seasons is just stunning.

I don't care how bad S5 is, Russell's back! The preacher guy is back!
I will say I'm happy Bill got less whiny last season. I was not happy he stole some of Eric's badassery to get it. Poor Eric got castrated.
Thank God no more Tara.

I hear you about this. Last season was incredibly cheesy, but as long as they keep showing Anna Paquin's breasts, I'll keep tuning in.

Russell returning was alluded to was it not?
Anyhow, Russell was the highlight of S3. His speech was one of the greatest things I've ever seen on TV.

But yes, I will continue watching. I'm interested in finding out what they are doing with Steve Newlin this season.

There is always that. No matter how cheesy-bad the show may get, you can always count on it for beautiful naked people.

I agree with you, I think True Blood is one instance where the TV/Film is better than the book series it was based on.
