Hi,
I've created this map of the world of A Song of Ice and Fire and I want to upload it onto the Wiki. How do I do that? You can find the map here:

Thanks

Nice one!
I see you already found out how to upload. It was probably harder to figure out in which article you wanted to include it. But I think that the portal is the right one.
Cheers,
Scafloc

Can't wait to see it. I used to think about "Google Map Style Westeros" but I had no idea how to make it.
And To OP, you did a good job.

On these maps, you can move your mouse on different elements to see some text appear ; and even if you left-click on it, go to another wiki article. It's not used for Winterfell or King's Landing maps because there is not an article for each part or road of the cities, but on a larger map, it will be possible to go to the Winterfell article by clicking on the localisation of Winterfell on the map.
@ScrollsofA : Wonderfull looking map !

What extension are you using to incorprate tha map into your mediawiki? (we are using Extension:Maps)
What is the scale/ratio of the map you are using ? it would be nice if we can use a standard one so we use the same layers/coords and make all of our life's easier.
Any tips suggestions?

IIRC the map size is 1500x660, and there is only Westeros, not Essos or the Free Cities. I'll show you if you want.

If I want to show where a certain castle / town / river is I prefer a clear, modern map. For instance see the King's Landing article where we have a map of the crownlands with a marker for King's Landing. We use this method to show where a certain place is. The current map that we are using there has room for improvement so if that is possible with the google interactive map; great!
A fancy map such as the one of Scrollsofarya is better for showing a complete region. And how it is perceived, the impression that it makes if you like.

The lakes in the Dothraki sea are not where Vaes Dothrak is located -- it's further east on GRRM's map, in areas that HBO's maps have as a great chain of mountains; GRRM has pushed the Dothraki sea a bit further east, basically. The Jade Sea is all wrong, as are the Jade Gates.
I will say that Ib is spot on, though GRRM's map adds a smaller, adjacent island to the east named Far Ib that HBO's map does not feature.
That may give a bit of sense of where GRRM started changing things last month -- you can kind of cut a line down from the middle of Ib, say (down through the peninsula south of it), and straight down and by my eyeballing of the real world map and HBO's it looks more or less correct. And Ib itself is okay, probably because that's drawn on a spearate piece of paper and so was not effected by his changes to the main continent.
But everything east of that is wrong.

Anyway, I just wanted some help updating some of the free cities and slaver bay location articles we have, so as long as they nailed the alignment between the two regions, I think this will do

And yeah, the lakes is where I put Vaes Dothrak on the first spec maps from the new info because it seemed the most logical place. I've since updated with the HBO location instead.

However you should note that while the HBO maps have similar shape and ratio, they are different from those in the books. It's not something that matters if you just want to show the location of some region(for that matter, I too went for visible over precision) but on higher resolutions it matters.

p.s. I know Its hard to see the details because tinypic downscaled it by 10 but its the same quality as what I sent you before.

Ran, would you be able to confirm if the bit of land south of the Jade Sea and south-east of Qarth in the HBO map is supposed to be Sothoryos or not? I meant to ask GRRM at the con and plain forgot.

As GRRM said in the interview, the motive for changing that area was because he wanted to make it more interesting for readers. Having tons of green with just 'DOTHRAKI SEA' on it was apparently unsatisfying, so he's been adding various ruins and other locations. He didn't say much about changing the landmass, but if we assume the HBO map was based on his older maps it certainly looks a little less interesting on the older version.
