Tonight was the official launch party for the season one DVD and Blu-ray set, and it was a star-studded affair over at the Old Vic Tunnels in London. A great deal of work and planning went into it according to all accounts, including the hiring of top-notch caterers, bringing in all manner of props, performers ranging from Masai drummers to bellydancers, and more.

As to those stars? Getty Images has a fine gallery of all the actors who were present. A bit of confusion with Harry Lloyd (labelled as Richard Madden) and Richard Madden (labelled as Kit Harington), but all you can really say is that it’s full of a lot of really, really pretty people.

Woah... Isaac and Maisie look at least two years older since the last photos I've seen them in. They sure grew up fast.

Maisie better not grow taller fast!
I think by season 4 or 5 they are going to have to 'age' her up!
I swear I don't think I have ever seen Michelle Fairley in street clothes before.
Dance looks fearsome even when he's being nice!
Gwen looks great in short hair, guess she will keep it that way.
Charlie Chaplin's granddaughter!, I guess the Barrymores don't have a lock on an acting dynasty.
Looks like everyone is having fun.

I'll say! They look much older than I would have expected. For some reason I didn't think Maisie was 14! More like 11 or 12...

Is it just me or does Alfie Allen look like a Bond villain without the facial growth?

That's the first thing I thought when I saw those pictures. I mostly wonder what they'll do about Maisie, because it won't be that hard to make Isaac look younger, since he'll be seated most of the times he appears. But it might make things harder when he has to be carried...

Yeah it'll be a bit strange. Someone commented that in a few years Bran's going to be capable of carrying Hodor around himself. :D

Well it's always a problem with child actors. Hate to say it but it may require re-casting by season 4. It worked with Harry Potter because each book was a year, but with ASOIAF it's more like each book is 6 months or maybe even less. How old is Sansa by the end of AFfC? 14? That's only 2 years from day one of GoT.

It'll be interesting to see what they do. I think they may adjust timelines in the series and have things happen over a much longer timeframe.

Re: facial hair on actors, Iain Glen at least has been growing his beard for his role in Uncle Vanya. I'm not sure what Coster-Waldau's excuse is.

Frankly I would not mind a 'reinterpretation' , I always thought more time should have passed in George's books considering the alternate Earth medieval world he has created. Seems people do horseback riding across fairly long distances in about a third the time it takes in reality. People seem to make sea voyages over fairly long distances in a flash.
All in all events in the story just seem to go by too fast in the context of the narrative.
The the characters 'aged' to fit a less time cramped timeline, be just fine with me.

The key here is "seems". In fact, the timeline holds together very well, with realistic travel times for the most part, if you study it closely.

That's not quite right. AGoT covers more than nine months and certainly can be stretched out to a year. ACoK definitely takes place over a much longer time period, maybe even more than a year due to the complexities of the military campaign in the Westerlands, Cat's massive multi-thousand-mile trek from Riverrun to Storm's End and back again (and in the show this could be longer, if she needs to rejoin Robb's army on the move in the Westerlands instead). By the end of ADWD it appears that about three years have passed, maybe more, and this could be stretched out in the show with just a few lines of dialogue. The difficulties would be ASoS being Seasons 3 and 4, with maybe a year passing between them, and AFFC/ADWD covering maybe a year between them over two seasons. The latter might not be such an issue with the younger actors getting taller (by then hopefully they should be passed their major growth spurts, aside from Art Parkinson), but the former could be trickier to pull off.

Quite three years passed between the beginning of Game and the end of Dance.

With good makeups and scenics, frames, they can easily make the children look younger.

Aesthetically if the producers wanted to imply a longer passage of time in the adaptation it would not bother me one wit.
I have seen much fine prose translated, with modification to the visual medium and still work.
As long as it does not do violence to the  story, which is most important element.

Apparently the Starks do not offer their prisoners razors at Riverrun (or wherever they have their camp) :P!

I have to admit, Maisie's outfit made me raise an eyebrow. Are 5+ inch heels the norm with fourteen-year-olds these days?

Issac still has that cutie face!

Catelyn, Arya and Sansa look stunning! I can't believe how old Maisie looks! That dress though, hm, bit short for her age but no matter, she still looks beautiful. Richard Madden is looking scrummy, as usual   I utterly dislike the woman playing Jeyne Westerling, besides the fact that she's kissing my lover - is there a need to have your dress that split? And what's with the Angelina-leg pose? My, my. Poor Sam looks as uncomfortable as his character though  And there's a picture of Tywin smiling?! NO!
