I have a crackpot theory that Syrio is alive (mos people agree on that), but he is in the guise of Meryn Trant? I doubt that Syrio would die that easily, being able to beat Lannister guards and knights with wooden swords. Meryn Trant is not a man of remarkable skill, but he did survive his encounter with Syrio.

One of them had to die in that room, but Trant is alive but Syrio is not shown to have been murdered. Is it possible that Syrio is a FM (some agree on this, and some even says that he is Janqen) and took Meryn Trant's place in the Kingsguard? A longshot, I know, but worth discussing.

Here are facts: even if you are willing to believe that he was able to somehow take Meryn's face, Meryn is described as "tall" and "big" while Syrio is said to be "slight". So he would rattle in Ser Meryn's armour while hiding his body :)

I'm still not buying into any of these theories. I would LOVE it if he was alive and resurfaced somehow, but he's deader than a dead thing I guess :-(
These books make one so paranoid that we believe everybody who isn't beheaded or chopped to pieces "on screen" could still be alive. Damn Martin, what are you doing to us?

And in all this time I thought that Syrio is actually the cat Arya used to chase.

Balon greyjoy warged into a kraken when he fell into the sea and he is the kraken that Varys was talking about.

Syrio Forrell is actually Varys. It makes sense if you think about it! They're never in the same scene together! They're both men from different lands then Westeros. They're both clever. Coincidence? Yeah. Right.

Just like its a coincidence that Jon Snow lives in the north. WITH SNOW? Exactly.

Discuss.

Syrio is actually a secret Targ, grandson of Aerion Brightflame and the one true king of Westeros.

Actually the grandson of Aerion Brightflame is Smiler, Theon's dead horse, which is actually Arya, because Arya was always described as horse faced.

She actually died when Smiler died, and the Arya thats in Braavos right now is actually Brienne of Tarth in disguise so that she can learn to kill things real good and go fuck up Kings Landing.

It is known.

There is an Arya in Eragon who is also described as being horse-faced by saphira,so actually Arya Stark is an elf who looks like a kid.You dont actually think a 9 year old is an assasin lol..that would be too unrealistic...

Says the author of the theory Jojen Reed is actually Howland Reed and basing it all on the description that child was "small and weak". :fencing:

But that means the Brienne we read about in AFFC is someone else... possibly Old Nan?  They are both described as unattractive and Old Nan definitely has reasons to be attached to the Stark children

For the love of God - all theories are valid.

Might I point out a quote (I shall find the link if you need me to) from GRRM, that states that his readers should have learnt by now to not take anything as gospel unless they see it with their own eyes.

I'd love for Syrio to still be alive, and firmly believed it until I reread Arya's chapters in ACOK, I believe, when she's at Harrenhall, and she says something about she wishes she could kill Trant for Syrio. But if Syrio has taken on the face of Trant, that'd be an interesting twist. We don't see enough of Trant for me to pick up on any clues, but if anyone did I'd be interested to hear them.

What's with the Syrio obsession? He is a really minor character who played his role, let him rest in peace.

Then why post? This is so infuriating. Someone has gathered up the bollocks to post something, the least we can do is either hear them out or just ignore it. I know it's been discussed over and over, and I share your frustration, but if we didn't hash things out, some brilliant theories would never have come about. Seeing as you've discussed it many times, it would seem, you must have some interesting insights. I am guessing that you don't believe in this theory, but if you have an answer as to why, I for one would love to hear it. I personally think anything is possible, and if I'm perfectly honest I'm not sure what I think happened to Syrio. I'd love for him to be alive though.

Actually, I based it off the fact that even though Meera is older and stronger then Jojen, he's the leader of their party. Along with the fact that he is much more mature and intelligent then most 9-10 year olds.

I actually don't mean to be a jerk.  Crackpot theories are one of my favorite parts of this series. Both proposing them, and making fun of them.

I am sure Syrio is dead and devoured by this time. But I like people thinking and looking for explanations. Or we all would only sit there and discuss over and over (as we do now too) if we like Daenerys, if Sansa is a saint, if Catelyn was a saint.

A laugh is a laugh, and I must seem like such a jumped-up little twat sometimes with a stick up my arse, but sometimes I get so frustrated with a lot of people putting others down. So my apologies, it was a general statement and I appreciate your reply.

That's absolutely your right as a reader, don't think I am attempting to sway anyone because I'm not. And like I said, I know this has been discussed over and over again, and your point is absolutely valid, but with each new member, 'old' things will come up again. I thought I was the dogs bollocks coming up with Davos-might-be-AAR, which admittedly only happened when someone posted the prophecy and I'd just read the relevant Davos chapter - but alas, it was not a new idea :frown5:  one day I will come up with a new theory that will blow everyone away, I swear it!
