Barristan the Bold, most definitely. There's not many people alive in Westeros today worthy of the title 'Hero'. The Blackfish is actually the only other man I can think of who does.

I would like to say Barristan the Bold, but it has been a while since he was in Westeros, and people seem to have no idea what happened to him, so he may not come to the forethought of people in Westeros. Jaime is probably next, because of his skill, and being the Kingslayer. I think that there is a chance of Bronze Yohn Royce being up there. The Blackfish Brynden Tully is another choice, he seemed to gain a great deal of fame for his exploits during the War of the Ninepenny Kings. Thoros of Myr may be up there also. He was the first man over the wall at Pyke during the Greyjoy rebellion, and then went on to form the BwB, so I think he deserves a nod.

Jamie is the most infamous unless we count the Mountain.

Selmy isnt in westeros so he's disqaulified as I read the op.  the most famous i think would be randall Tarly i think.  It seems like there's a power vacuum for famous warriors right now in westeros.  None of the northern guys seems to be too popular and basically no one pays attention to whats going down at the wall.

Maybe Loras.  He seems to be extremely popular woth the smallfolk while Garlan seems to be an afterthought

If you're talking about the Seven Kingdoms, I'd go with Barristan. If you're talking about the continent of Westeros as a whole, I'd go with Ned Stark, just because people knew of him throughout all of the Seven Kingdoms and beyond the Wall, which is something I doubt southerners like Jaime or Barristan can necessarily claim.

Beric Dondarrion, the smallfolk loves him, they tell tales about him, and
he will propably be remembered hundreds of years later. He is a true Robin Hood, a man out of legends.

Thoros of Myr, for being the first through the breach in the battle at Pyke.

Jaime too for saving Kings Landing from wildfire, but no one knows about that...

1. Ser Barristan "the Bold" Selmy
2. Ser Jaime Lannister- He is famous for a heroic deed, its just not seen that way.
3. Ser Brynden "the Blackfish" Tully

#2 & #3 are debatable in the order but Ser Barry is definitely #1

For the people of Westeros Barristan Selmy I believe, pity that he is wasting his time babysiting Daenerys  or maybe the Blackfish. For me, Jon, Davos, Sam, Mance...

Ser Barristan is the only true hero left in Westeros that people sing songs about. Jaime has a big reputation but he is not loved at all so he can't be considered a hero. Loras tries to be a better Jaime, maybe a combination of Arthur Dayne (skill)- Jaime (charisma, looks)

Barristan Selmy

Beric Dondarrion

Loras Tyrell

But it seems to me the small-folk talk more about Beric and Loras...

I would have to say Loras Tyrell: the smallfolk love him, the ladies all love him, etc etc... and he has an epic story. Fought for Renly, then helped Garlan lead Renly's army to defeat Stannis on the Blackwater, joins the Kingsguard, and then was the first over the walls and took a grievous wound while storming Dragonstone. He is the only knight who has, in a rather short amount of time, done enough to be worth singing about.

I'll go with Beric Dondarrion, too.  And as for the ladies swooning, even before he kept getting back up when we were all sure he was dead, Jeyne Poole was over the moon about him.  He had it going on.

What of Lord Renly's Last Ride...? It would sort of be Renly's style to be loved and remembered by high and low forever regardless of the mundane intrusion of historical fact...

I agree. Mance and Davos is the definition of the heroes (who are known everywhere) but Jon and Sam the Slayer are kind of hidden heroes...
