-Jon not killing that old man
-Dire wolf flying high on Riverrun
(Holy shit... thats it, talk about sad)
But for sadness
-Tyrion telling his bro he killed Joff... He caused KS so much greif... and it kills Tyrion to do it also
- Reek (anything and everything)
-Most sad part of ASOIAF, without a doubt... R+L=J (Poor R, and L, and Ned, and Cat... And Jon thinks he is so depressed)

Also, Nymeria dragging Catalyn's body from the water. That shit was terrible.
I also really loved the scene in AGoT where Dany prepares that lunch for Viserys, and she buys him all that junk she think's he'll appreciate, but then he starts to assualt her, so she slaps him with a belt.

Most of Sandor's scenes in ASoS, & the Elder Brother talking about him in AFFC.
Davos on his knees reading the letter from the Night's Watch to Stannis.
Meera crying about Jojen, and Bran wanting to hug her but he can't reach her.
Cersei "And hair grows back .."
Stannis "I swear, I will go to my grave thinking of my brother’s peach."

Others for me -
Rickon crying for his family. He's just a little baby practically. I have a small son, and it breaks my heart to think of him being left behind and crying for us.
Brienne describing the cruelty of the game played by the knights gathered with Renly.
Dany losing her son.
The moment when Catelyn feels that she's lost everyone she ever loved - Hoster, Ned, her babies.
Theon's repentence in the Reek chapters.
The bold sacrifice of Halfhand, facing death so Jon could live.
In the midst of the horror of battle, Sandor trying to save Sansa. Poor Sansa who endured beatings, being stripped, being emotionally abused, constantly taunted.

That broke my heart! She was doing everything she thought of to please him but that little shit was too jealous of his little sister to appreciate that... That was definitely the final turning point where you knew there were no way you would ever like Viserys, when he died not long after, I was glad.

- Dany realising that Drogo is mentally dead and smothering him herself
- the little boy murdered in his mother's arms by Gregor's scum because he kept calling his daddy
- Ned learning from Cersei why she hated Robert so much, and realizing the futility of what happened - that Robert screwed his married life for the love of the girl who probably never loved him back
- Cressen's prologue when he thinks of Stannis as the unloved child and the son he never had himself

Oh, I forgot about Cressen's prologue, and how he loved Stannis the most of all because he needed it the most. Cressen's prologue was very sad and depressing, but it made me like Davos so much. Good call about Cressen's prologue.

Can some of you come up with some connecting scenes, where the penny drops for you, like the scene I mention in the OP? Reading about Jamie thinking how Ser Bonifer turned to God and then finding out a book later it was because he fell in love with the king's sister and didn't have a hope in hell of ever marrying her.
I know I've had other connecting scenes: GRRM likes to bury these little gems and then pop them up chapters or books later.

One of these things for me was when Ser
Another connection is when Brienne thinks of the old shield she found in her fathers cellar or something like that(my memory is reeeeally fuzzy right now, I need to eat something
oh and when Arya is about to hide Needle and thinks back on her family and happier days...*sobs*

"You raped her, you murdered her, you killed her children" is one scene I'll never ever forget.
Snow castle
Jory Cassell
The Stark girls witnessing their father's death
Ygritte's death
Red Wedding. Face raking, the hair and Grey Wind were especially traumatic
Pod's devastation at Tyrion leaving him
Every time Cersei has Pate the whipping boy whipped..upsets me every time
Septon Meribald's speech about war and those involved
Maester Aemon's death
For some reason, Stannis makes me quite emotional...the teeth grinding thing seems like a real vulnerability in him and he's such an unhappy soul. He makes me sad and though he'd hate it, I just want to give him a great big hug!
And last, but by no means least, Sandor. His last night at the Red Keep with Sansa, his tears at Hollow Hill and his last scene in AFFC all saw me filling up.
