Its been suggested he's slamming Joel Schumacher's Batman films with this line. Those films must have really pissed him off for him to reference it so much.
I know this is off-topic but- A BAT CREDIT CARD?

For me....it is the saying, "It is known".   Then, they just repeat each other one after another with, "it is known. nods  it is known"

"A Lannister always pays his debt."

I actually like that one. It makes me happy every time someone ( a Lannister) says it. :cool4:

"Wherever whores go" - Sheesh that was overused in ADWD
"You know nothing, Jon Snow" - equally overused, can't say I miss her AT ALL

However, unlike a lot of the replies. I do enjoy "words are wind" and some of the other ones that are non-specific to a character and their problem. I use that one in real life without realizing it is from ASOIF :)

If I look back I´m lost

I recently reread the last Dany chapters in AGoT.  She said it so often, I thought GRRM didn´t want me to look at what he´d just written.

I didn't like that song from the moment I heard  read it, but after three books with tons of reference about it, I got to a point where I kindda like it now... Just like a boring joke that one of your friends would have repeated so many times that it became funny...
I completely agree. it's probably the fact that it's pretty much the go-to song whenever anyone sings anything. you just have to laugh at a certain point

also I found the scene in ASOS where Sansa was talking to Lady Olenna and she was making butterbumps scream the song so nobody could hear what they were talking about hilarious. it was just such a mess.

I don't really find any of GRRM's repetitive phrases annoying when I read them in the book.

But when I'm on here I find it very annoying when people keep writing "It is known."

But if I had to choose of a saying in the book it would probably be "I am only a young girl, and know nothing of war...."

Yeah, titles are like comparing sizes, the bigger the title the bigger the cock.

Davos and others endless remarks about onions whenever it concerns Davos.

Stop with the damn onion comparisons, metaphors, personifications, and similes.

I like you Davos but if you say it again I'm going to shove one right up your arse.

One I do like - when ever The hound says bugger.  Its like fuck-off but endearing.

Is it weird that I think one of the funniest parts of Dance was when Irri said 'It is known' and Jhiqi just goes off on her with 'It is not known!'.

On topic, yeah 'wherever whores go' was annoying after the third time. The rest I don't mind as much.

while I like long flowery titles, I agree that they'd get irritating if brought out too often.....

"You know nothing, Jon Snow"

Worked for the first couple mentions. But then she says it to the point where it is pretty much every single time she opens her mouth. Was even her last words before death...really girl? Couldn't you have said something else more new and meaningful instead of a line that Jon already knew from hundred times prior? : /

Also "Wherever Whores go" got old quickly.

And the whole "She's been fucking Lancel and Osmund Kettleblack and probably Moon Boy for all I know" that kept going on and on in Jaime's head for a good while.

"Where ever whores go..." takes the damn cake. I cringed every time Tyrion said it for absolutely no reason.

"The Rains of Castamere" was waaay overused in ASOS. I loved Charles Dance's explanation of it for the Blu-ray though!

Really tired of:
  • I am but a young girl and know nothing of... (worked well the first couple of times she used it, but by now everybody knows that Dany is not that -- too late in the game to keep 'playing dumb')
  • A Lanister always pays his debts. (Way, way before the 5th book, we, and all of Westeros, know that already and have caught on to the fact that the meaning cuts two ways)
  • Words are wind (really liked it the first couple of times - very descriptive in a unique way, but by the third time or so, it completely loses its effectiveness)
  • Much and more, little and less  (Liked them the first few times, but it seems they weren't used in AGOT, then "discovered" and used all the time in ACOK, run into the ground)
  • Nipples on a breastplate (I just plain don't like this, never mind the irritating repetition)
However, I DO still like the following, because I think the first three serve to underline themes, and I just like the fourth one, I like the 'wise innocence', sort of mind set that it comes from.
  • Arya repeating her 'prayer'/hit list
  • Jaime repeating his "Lancel and Kettleback, and Moonboy for all I know"
  • The "You know nothing, Jon Snow" refrain
  • The "It is known" refrain of Dany's attendant
