I have recently read some of the comments on youtube concerning the casting of Kit Harrington as Jon Snow. They don't like him as Jon. I however think he's great! I saw the series before reading the books which may sway my opinion though. Do you guys think they made a mistake in casting Kit. I saw in an interview that George oversaw the casting so he obviously thought Kit was good.

I have no idea why anyone would object to Kit as Jon. I think he plays the part perfectly.

It's some folks who take shots at how sometimes he has this blank look on his face with his mouth open.

Yeah it's hilarious.

I think Kit's doing a fine job, though, despite the trademark dopey expression (he is even pulling the same face on the back cover of the DVD, which cracks me up). It'll be interesting to see how he does in season 2, it's a fairly dull season for Jon up until towards the end. I think they're going to liven things up a bit, give him more to do, introduce Ygritte a bit earlier.

My only problem with Kit is that I always imagined Jon with straight hair and with longer face (and much younger of course! I understand they had to age up the kids, but Jon's character was much better as a 14-16 year-old boy. It's not Kit's fault, though.) However, I have no problem with the acting part, but he really should close his mouth more often and look a bit smarter. Anyway, when I recall the time I read AGOT, Jon was exactly like this. His character changed a lot since then, and I just want to wait to see how Kit manages to show his development. Especially in later books, where he became my favourite along with Arya.  I liked him in AGOT as well, but there he was mainly this brooding, angry, "I'm better that you are" type of guy. Kit's portrayal is perfect in that sense.

:agree:  This. Yes.

The problem with Jon in GoT is exactly like Arya Targaryen said - he is kind of a morose fellow with a world of chips on his shoulder. Fortunately for the reader, we got to see in his head and understand how he thought and why he carries around so much bitterness (which I think Kit gets across well) but in the show, you just see this peevish, pouting handsome guy with only some ideas of why he was the way he was and that I think might be a lot of the reason people didn't connect with Kit so well.

I think he was fine, I never really noticed the mouth thing, lol. To be fair to Kit, Jon doesn't really get a whole lot to do until the end of AGoT and its really not much. I think in season 2 he will have much more to do with him going beyond the wall and all that. They will probably give him more to do than in the book.

I don't have any ill feeling towards Kit Harington, but I do think Richard Madden would have been a better Jon.

Ofc no ill feeling but if you had to put a picture in a dictionary under Gormless it would be a close call between Kit and Karl Pilkington :lmao:
