About the living, I'm looking forward to the moment when their enemies start to see that those children are alive and dangerous.

Ned was one of a very few good guys, Robb was a badass, Arya reminds me of my little sister, Bran is a powerful warg, Rickon is a pissed off little kid with a murderous wolf for a pet, and Jon (Half stark) is essentialy the main story-line of this series of books.
Sansa is a tool, and Catelyn bores the hell out of me though.

In the name of tradition I suppose they would have to.

The funny thing about the time when the Stark children comes of age is that there won't be anyone left for them to take their revenge on. I for one am unsure if a single person on Arya's list except the ones she's already killed will be alive for her to kill. Same goes for Bran, Sansa and Rickon.
While I feel very sad about Tywin, Sandor etc. I do find some comfort in that the Stark children will be cheated of their revenge. I'm probably being petty-minded now but its the small joys that makes our lives brighten.

Well, Ned brought this on, himself. He put a sculpture of his superhot sister down there.

That said-I will never understand his insanedesire to spout his plan to expose her to Cersei Lannister.
Protip: if it doesn't work for Bond villains, it doesn't work for you.
Sansa is my favourite Stark-she sticks to her own ideals and principles while acknowledging that the rest of the word doesn't.

I don't mind if there is no personal revenge. I would be disappointed if Arya spent rest of the book only killing people on her list. The enemies I'm talking about are more Varys, LF and probably Targs/Blackfires rather then Freys or Lannisters.

I think the Starks are the proverbial tortoise. They take short-term losses and hang in there, and they'll come out on top.

Well, if the Lannisters are non-existent I'd think that be contentment enough. Personally, I would take Tywin's bones, wire them together like a puppet, dress him in a jester's costume, and have him be the fool of Winterfell, all the while sitting atop a chair made of Frey skulls.
As for Arya, though, I do think she has the potential to eliminate some names from her list. If Harys Swyft decides to continue on to Braavos and takes Gregor's men with him as planned, then Dunsen and Raff are not long for this world.

one can not like Catelyn, two can maybe say that Robb and Ned had been pretty foolish, but that's as far as it goes..
the books are made around em..such a pity, that Rickon is way too young to kick some ass
can't wait to see how will they eventualy make their comeback..even if it's gonna be "bittersweet"

Ned - as pillar of honour and justice, he is loved by most of fandom {and some were quite...displeased by his fate (as seen by this popular video: http://url=http://ww...h?v=owf6D2vfZqM)}. He is quite close to traditional "hero" archetype. On the other hand, some readers criticize him for his naivette and clinging to strict moral code - which all led to his downfall and dragged his family into war.
Robb - all I wrote about Ned could be said about Robb, too. While brave and moral character (which brough him many fans), he did commit many mistakes and stupidities (as his non-fans are eager to point out).
Catelyn - don't get me started here...she's subject of most ardent debates, with fans and bashers dissecting her every action, decision and thought and analyising them in essay-long posts.
Sansa - if her mother is most divisive character, Sansa is very close second. Half of readers thinks she's annoying, naive and vain girl who deliberately betrayed her family. The other half defend her just as passionately, citing her kindness, lack of malice and inteligence she's showing under LF's tutelage.
Jon Snow - another fan favourite. Still, often accussed of being typical Mary Sue.
Arya - almost universally liked in first book. In later books, however, with her increasing fondness of murdering - less so.
Bran and Rickon - haven't seen much topics and debates about their personalities.
As for myself, I like all Starks. Besides being well written characters, I like them as characters - their flaws notwithstanding. Really, in cynical and cruel world of ASOIAF, it's nice to read about family whose members genuinelly love each other (I know, with Cat-Jon as exception) and generally try to do the right thing.

I'm not particularly fond of them, unless you want to be inclusive of Jon.
I do enjoy Arya and like her character quite a bit, although I find her chapters to be the epitome of hit-and-miss.
I consider Sansa rather bland but love the parts of the story she documents so I very much look forward to reading her chapters.
Bran is actually my least favorite character in the series and the one POV I don't like in any fashion, except when he's seeing visions unrelated to him.
Rickon is basically a non-entity.
And Eddard was quite swell but didn't make it past the first book.
As for Catelyn, she is one of my favorite characters and one of my favorite POVs when she still had one but I consider her pure Tully.
That being said, I find the Starks, that is, the characters themselves, less entertaining than the Greyjoys, Martells, Lannisters and maybe even the Tyrells.

I love them as they are, with their flaws and their strengths and hope that they'll make it in the end.

Being from New England, I like ALL the Starks Jon is a Stark in my eyes, how can you not like a family that survived 8000 years?
By their own admission some of their ancestors weren't the best of people, but many more seem to have gain the respect and love of about 98% of the North including Wildlings.
I've yet to see that same devotion to Houses Lannister,Tyrell, Martell, Baratheon, Freys, Bolton etc.
Everyone in this book is a TOOL, some tools learn others do not, Sansa is learning, Cersei is not, Sansa and the Starks may have a future, Cersei's and the Lannisters has passed.
JMHO.

By the way I love the actors they picked as the Stark family on the HBO series from Ned to Rickon.
