This is an early call for players to sign up for Mafia 89 - The King in Dragonstone.

This game will have 18 players and is still looking for signups/replacements

PM House Baratheon or Zar Lannister in this Board or simply PM Zar in the Mafia Discussion Board to sign up. Faraday and Mina Martell are helping me mod this game.

NOTICE

While we are actively promoting the game in this board, which we normally use to play, we will be running Game 89 in the Mafia Discussion Board. This temporary change is due to the increase in SQL errors which make contribution in the game difficult and also we reduce by a bit the traffic to the site close to the proximity of the Premiere (not by much, but something is something).

BOOK SPOILER NOTICE

There may be players, spectators, replacements and/or spoiled players that have not yet finished the novels of A Song of Ice and Fire. While this game will be using references from A Clash of Kings, all flavor text has been carefully reviewed to remove plot spoilers. We kindly ask everyone playing to avoid all sorts of spoilers past the first novel. It doesn't matter if you think any of the flavor used could hint to a spoiler, or if you think it's safe because for some reason you saw it on the TV Show. Just like in last mini game: If it happened after "The things I do for love", then don't mention it. Any information considered a spoiler in nature will be edited out of your messages. You are allowed to joke about your coat of arms, or the region you come from.

RULES (The rules are modified as per Plessiez' suggestion after Game 88, please pay attention).

All players must ..

A1) Have an account on the mafia discussion board, with the same account name as on the main board

A2) Log in and view the game thread and the discussion board anonymously at all times, unless they have informed the mods that this is not possible for technical reasons. (If you see that somebody playing isn't viewing the thread anonymously, don't post this information on the thread, because that would be silly.)

A3) Post at least once every 24 hours.

There will be no modkills due to inactivity as long as a replacement is available. If a modkill (for inactivity) is appropriate, a replacement will be sought, and a modkill will only be used as a last resort. Should a slot need to be modkilled due to a lack of replacements, then all following inactivity breaches will also result in modkills. Modkills for other issues--such as where game integrity has been compromised--will still be in effect

The mods may grant extensions to this 24 hour time limit in some cases. Please contact the mods as early as possible if you wish to request an extension. The modkill limit will certainly be extended over the weekend; see the game thread itself for details.

A4) Send in role prescribed night actions (including the desire to take no action) within the time limit. (The mods encourage players to send in night actions before night falls, if this is practical and won't unduly influence your choice of action).

A5) Treat everybody involved in the game with courtesy and respect.

A6) Make any edits the mods request of them as soon as possible, whether or not they believe that the posts need to be edited.

A7) Contact the game mods as soon as possible if you feel you are at risk of breaking a rule or fear they or another person may have already done so. (Please do not post about possible rule violations on the thread itself.)

Players must not ...

B1) Act in any way intended to reduce the chance of their faction achieving its win conditions. (However, should all surviving members of the evil faction agree that they wish to resign and end the game early, they may do so by PMing the mods privately, without stating their intentions on-thread until the mods post to announce that the game is over.)

B2) Discuss the game with any other living players outside this game thread except when told they may do so in their role PMs.

B3) Reveal any information about the game at all in any other thread than this one, or in any other forum (including message boards and chat rooms) where it may be seen by a living player.

B4) Give anybody but the mods access to any of their accounts (including game alts), either here or on the mafia discussion board.

B5) Attempt to obtain advice about the game from anybody not currently playing.

B6) Post information on the thread relating to another player's past or current activity on (or absence from) the board that would not otherwise be available to anybody reading the thread.

B7) Quote, in whole or part, PMs from (or other private conversations with) the mods on the thread, or discuss the timing of any PMs sent to the mods.

B8) Post on the thread at any time after they are dead until the mods themselves post on the thread to announce that the game is over. Any posts made (accidentally or otherwise) after death should be immediately edited blank.

B9) Make any bets about the game.

B10) Offer to break any of these rules or any other rules the mods have set in place for the game, encourage others to do so or help to conceal the fact that rules have been broken.

ALTS

Every player in the game has been given the password to a special account (their "alt") for posting in the game thread.

C1) Players must not post on the game thread with any account other than their game alt. Any posts accidentally made "out of alt" should be edited blank as soon as possible.

C2) Players must not give anybody but the game mods access to their game alt for any reason. Players must not change their password from the one assigned to them by the game mods.

One purpose of the alt is to prevent players from "metagaming" by comparing a player's action in the current game with their behaviour in other games or on other parts of the board.

Accordingly, players must not:

C3) Deliberately reveal information on the game thread with the aim of making their own true identity known to other players. (Note, however, that you may if you choose reveal your identity "out of alt" to any players you have been given permission to comunicate with off-thread.)

C4) Speculate on thread as to the identity of any player, living or dead, whose identity has not yet been revealed by the mods. (The mods are happy for you to guess at other alts' identity for your own amusement, though. Feel free to send in any alt-guesses to the spoiler thread.)

C5) Announce on the thread which players they believe themselves to have correctly alt-guessed, or whether they believe that other players should have enough information to identify their own "out of alt" identity.

C6) State outright or deliberately hint at the idea that their opinion of another player has been affected by their own private speculation as to that player's "out of alt" identity.

Alt rules will be enforced.

AND JUST SO YOU KNOW

D1) Failure to comply with the rules may result in any punishment the mods deem appropriate, including, but not limited to: a request to edit posts; formal warnings on thread; "modkilling", and ending the game prematurely in favor of one faction or none. The mods will also report rule infractions to the metamods after the game. Except where clearly stated in the rules, the mods are free to respond to any rules violation in whatever manner they wish. In all cases the mods' decision on these matters is final.

D2) Feel free to PM or IM your thoughts (or questions) to the mods. We love to hear them!

D3) The mods reserve the right to amend the rules during the game if we realize we've forgotten to cover something. Or, you know, if we have any other reason.

-------------------------

As well as running the game on this thread, the mods are also responsible for administering the spoiler thread on the discussion board. Anybody not actively involved in the game (whether spectators or dead players) can request access to this thread by PMing the mods. Please note that while in general the mods will be happy to let anybody have access to this thread, they do reserve the right to refuse access to anybody for any reason. In particular, players who are modkilled for inactivity will not be spoiled. Accordingly, please do not ask anybody other than the mods for access to the spoiler thread or give yourself access to it, even if you have the power to do so.

Once given access to the thread, spoiled spectators should also take note of the following rules, and must not ...

E1) Share any information from the spoiler thread with living players, or post such in a forum where it may be seen by living players.

E2) Offer any advice, hints or strategy to living players.

E3) Make personal attacks on players in the game or on posters in the spoiler thread itself

E4) Post on the game thread before the mods announce that the game is over.

Spectators (of any sort) who ignore these rules are likely to have their access to the spoiler thread revoked and to be reported to the metamods.

Game Mechanics

1 - General Structure

Players may begin posting as soon as the mods announce that the game has started on the thread. The game begins during the day. The day ends when when a sufficient number of people have voted to lynch a player (remove that player from the game) or voted to end the day without a lynch. The mods will post maximum time limits for the length of a day on the game thread. If no consensus is reached when the time expires, the day ends with no lynch. When the day phase has ended, night begins. The mods will then post a scene reporting the outcome of the day. Players may continue posting in the thread but no voting is allowed. Night ends when the mods post the morning scene reporting the outcome of the night actions. Day and night phases continue to alternate until the game ends.

2 - Day Phase

During the day, players may post in the thread and vote. Some roles may have special powers which can be used during the day. See the role list for details.

2.1 - Voting Mechanics

To vote for a player: bold that player's name

To vote to end the day without a lynch: bold the word night.

To change your vote: bold the other player's name (or bold night).

To remove your vote without casting a new vote: bold the phrase remove vote or unvote.

PLEASE NOTE

According to these Rules, if you bold the phrase
unvote (player's name),
your vote from said player
will not be removed
, as you would have unvoted, but revoted him again.

2.2 - Voting Restrictions

You may only vote during the day phase. This means you can only have one vote outstanding at any time. You may not vote for yourself. You may not edit a vote into a post. You may not edit a vote out of a post. Edited Votes into Posts will not be considered valid.

2.3 - Bold Restrictions

The use of bold should be limited to voting, except in some cases and for some specific roles. If you want to emphasize a players name or another word, you can underline the word or post using a different color

2.4 - Majority Defined

A majority means either more than half of the active players voting for one player's lynch or half or more of the active players voting to go to night without a lynch.

2.5 - Ending the Day

The day ends as soon as a majority is reached (or, if the players fail to vote for any action, once the time limit for the day has elapsed). Anyone lynched is no longer an active player and must not post in the thread. Votes can no longer be withdrawn and new votes cannot be cast until the night phase ends.

2.6 - Evening Scene

The mods will post a scene shortly after the day ends to report the results of the day actions. If the day ended with a player's lynch, the mods will also reveal the alt and alignement (innocent/evil) of the lynched player. The Joker will turn up as "innocent".

3 - Night Phase

During the night, players may post in the thread but may not vote. Some players will have the ability to perform special actions. See the role list for details.

3.1 - Performing a Night Action

If your role includes the ability to perform a special action at night, you need to PM the mods to indicate the action you wish to take. Most, if not all, roles have the ability to "withhold" their powers (i.e. take no action). This will be made clear in the description of the role: see the role list. If you chose to not perform your allowed action, you must PM "no action" to the mods. The game will also have a time limit on the maximum length of a night. All players must PM their night actions to the mods within this timeframe. Players are strongly encouraged to send their night actions as soon as possible: you may also send in a PM for your special action during the day phase.

3.2 - Contingent PM

If you send in a PM during the day phase, you may choose to list alternative actions contingent on the manner in which the day ended. If none of the contingencies you list actually occur, your PM will be disregarded, and you must send a new PM to the mods.

3.3 - Provisional PM
You may choose to send a provisional PM if you want to further consider your night action but do not want to extend the night if all other roled players have decided upon their actions. Provisional PMs must be clearly marked as such. A provisional PM will not be acted upon by the mods until it becomes a 'definite PM.' A provisional PM becomes definite as soon as ( a ) you confirm your choice with another PM, or ( b ) the time limit for the night has expired.

As a courtesy to other players we ask that you confirm your provisional PM as soon as you are able.

3.4 - Last Resort PM

In extraordinary circumstances you may be allowed to send in a last resort PM. A last resort PM will not be acted upon by the mods until ( a ) you confirm your choice with another PM or ( b ) the time limit for the night has expired. Should you need to send a last resort PM, you must first seek the mods approval by explaining the circumstances that necessitate such a PM. Last resort PMs are accepted only at the discretion of the mods.

3.5 - Failure to PM
If not all PMs are received within the time limit, everyone who has failed to send in a PM will be considered to have taken no action. In addition, those who failed to send in a PM will be warned by the mods or may risk further penalties.

3.6 - Changing a Night Action
PMs to the mod can be changed at any point before the new day is announced. A PM is considered to be changed only after the mod receives and has read the PM. The player bears the risk that the mod will post the morning scene after the player has sent in a new PM but before the mod has actually read it. In this case the action originally indicated will be performed.

3.7 - Abusing the Time Limit

The time limit for the night begins as soon as the previous day ended, regardless of when the mods posted the evening scene. However, this time limit is a maximum limit, and all players should send in PMs as soon as they feel comfortable doing so. Players (and mods) prefer shorter nights, as people are anxious to see who may have died and to begin voting again. If the mods feel that a player is abusing the time limit by unreasonably stalling, they may force the player to take no night action or take other appropriate action.

3.8 Preventing Night Actions

Except where expressly noted, no night actions prevent any other night actions sent in from taking effect.

3.9 - Morning Scene

The night phase ends when the mods post the morning scene. The mods will post the scene shortly after all night action PMs have been received. The scene will report any player deaths that occurred during the night, and will reveal the alts of all of the players killed. There are no hidden clues in the morning scenes. As soon as the scene is posted any players who have been killed at night will no longer be active players and can no longer post in the thread. The time limit for the new day will begin with the morning scene.

3.10 - Action PM

In order to make it easier to track a players Night Actions, we will only be acknowledging Actions sent in PMs under the Title "Night Action PM" or something similar. We will confirm the receival of your PM with a "Noted" reply. If you change your mind about your Night Action, please do not edit your Message, send us a new one and we will acknowledge it if it has arrived before the last action of the Night has come in.

Section 4 - Endgame

The game will continue to alternate between day and night phases until the game ends. The game can end after either a day or night phase.

4.1 - Winning Conditions

The game ends once one faction has reached its winning conditions, which the mods will state in the game thread.

Mafia is a team game. Once one faction achieves its winning conditions, all members of that faction have won whether or not they are active players when the winning conditions are achieved.

4.2 - Ending Scene

The mods will post an ending scene and declare the game over shortly after one faction achieves its winning conditions. If for any reason it becomes impossible for either faction to achieve its winning conditions, the mods will declare the game a draw.

The game is only over when a mod posts the ending scene. Even if you know (or believe you know) the result of the game before then, you may not post in the thread unless you are an active player.

4.3 - Calling the Game Early

The mods reserve the right to end the game at any time before a faction achieves its winning conditions provided there are compelling reasons to do so. In general, the mods will end the game early as soon as one faction's victory becomes inevitable.

4.4 - Spoilers

When the game is over, the mods will reveal the alts and roles of everybody who played and also give everyone access to the spoiled spectator threads on the discussion board.

Day/Night length

Days will be thirty-two (32) hours long, nights eight (8) hours long. Nights however may be shorter, if Night Actions are sent in on time. The minimum stipulated Length of Night will be Two (2) Hours.

Night Actions
All actions must be sent in a PM titled "Night Actions".

If for any reason, you are not sending in a Night Action, please be kind enough to send a

"No Action"

night PM. If you are just not going to be available during the Night please try to send provisional Night PMs or Contingency PMs (see: rules). I do not want to hold the Night unless it's necessary. If you feel you need time, PM me (Zar) or my co-mods (Faraday, Mina Martell) and we'll consider your request

Coroner Finder

There will be a CF revealing (loyalist, rebel). In case there were a symp in the game, he will flip as a loyalist.

Other Stuff

-

Alted rules: Avoid making references to yourself or giving hints that would make obvious who you are (this includes: games you've played in, information specific to your timezone).
- Do not quote your role PM. You may paraphrase it, but don't directly quote any private messages from the Mods. It is High Treason and you will be modkilled for it.
- Encrypting messages with outside software is forbidden.
- Do not link to outside sources. If you have notes, copy them in your message. Linking to external documents is also forbidden.

- Please try to avoid personal attacks. Remember we are all friends here after the game ends, we are all just trying to play the best favorable way to achieve our winning conditions.

So, what makes this game exciting, other than the Great Zar-Mod being behind it?

Awesome flavor text, but also

It's the games Special Mechanics/Specifics:

Nights in this game will be divided into two phases.

1) Night (where all actions take place) and
2) Twilight (where R'hllor may bless you with a special power to use during the following Day/Night Phase). Think of it like a sorting goodie bag given out regardless of alignment.

Should any of you not receive an ability, you will receive this Ability PM.

Quote

No blessings from R'hllor have been bestowed upon you for this day.

The blessing R'hllor might give you for any given Day/Night Phase may be among the following:

Blessed By Fire (Bulletproof)
R'hllor has blessed you with his protection for tonight. This allows you to survive the first attempt on your life, during this night phase. You will not be informed if an attempt on your life has been made.

Cleansing by Fire (Vanillizer)
Fire purifies, and R'hllor has given you the power of purification. You may attempt to cleanse a player this night. This means they lose any abilities they have (exluding the ability to commit the factional FM nightkill if they may do so). You will not be informed if your action is successful. Please note that this action resolves last. Should you target a player they will be cleansed by fire at the end of night. So any actions they carry out that night will not be interfered with. Should you target a cleanser who targets you, both actions will occur simultaneously and you will both lose your abilities.

The Death Wish (Ninja)
Death can pay for life. But for today, your life may also pay for death. R'hllor has granted you a death wish. At any given point of the day phase, you may chose to use your power. You may bold the words: I pay with my life for the death of Player X. Once these words have been said, you will both die. The day phase will continue regularly, but the vote count will be reset.

The Red Vote (Double Voter)
For this Day phase, R'hllor has blessed you with the gift of influence. Besides your regular vote, you have been granted a Red Vote. Therefore, you are a Double Voter. In order to differentiate your first vote from your second vote, the latter must not only be bolded, but be colored in red. You may change either of your votes at any time (always using bolded red for any switches on your additional vote), however, you may not place both votes on the same player or vote night with both votes. If by any chance you happen to use your double voting ability on two players who are at L-1, the first vote will be considered the hammer.  Majority is not affected by your extra vote.

(If by any chance a player who is not a double voter places two consecutive votes, it will be considered as a regular vote with a switch).

Flame Revelation Seer (Finder):
R'hllor has granted you the ability to look into the flames. Blessed are you by the mighty Red God! You have been granted the gift of revelation. You are a finder. During the night, you may choose to look into the flames by sending the name of one player you wish to investigated (other than yourself). Assuming no interference by other roles, the mods will PM you as soon as day begins to tell you if that player is "rebel (killer)" or "not a rebel (not a killer)".  Please note a symp would show up as "not a rebel".

The flames showing you no result means that something interfered with your ability and it did not resolve successfully.

Flame Clairvoyance Seer (Night Action Finder)
R'hllor has granted you the ability to look into the flames. Blessed are you by the mighty Red God! You have been granted the gift of clairvoyance. You are a Night Action Finder. During the night, you may choose to look into the flames by sending the name of one player you wish to investigate (other than yourself). Assuming no interference by other roles, the mods will PM them as soon as day begins to tell them if that player "Performed a night action" or "Did not Perform a night action".

The flames showing you no result means that something interfered with your ability and it did not resolve successfully.

Flame Knowledge Seer (Role Finder):
R'hllor has granted you the ability to look into the flames. Blessed are you by the mighty Red God! You have been granted the gift of knowledge. You are a Role Finder. During the night, you may choose to look into the flames by sending the name of one player you wish to investigate (other than yourself). Assuming no interference by other roles, if said player had a special ability during the night (other than the factional kill), you will be informed by the mods of what this ability was via PM. The Flavorful Name of the role will be reported.

The flames showing you no result means that something interfered with your ability and it did not resolve successfully.

Flame Premonition Seer (Forecaster):
R'hllor has granted you the ability to look into the flames. Blessed are you by the mighty Red God! You have been granted the gift of  premonition. You can see the future. During the night, you may choose to  look into the flames by sending the name of one player you wish to  investigate (other than yourself). Assuming no interference by other  roles, you will be receive a PM informing you one of the following:

1) Player B received Player A's ability
2) No one received Player A's ability.
3) You obtained no result.

This ability resolves after abilities have been reassigned. The flames showing you no result means that something interfered with your ability and it did not resolve successfully.

Flame Sensible (Watcher):
R'hllor has granted you the ability to look into the flames. Blessed are you by the mighty Red God! You have been granted the gift  of sensing. You are a watcher. At night, you may choose a player to watch. If other roles do not intervene, you will be informed if a player was targeted by players other than yourself (although not by whom).

The flames showing you no result means that something interfered with your ability and it did not resolve successfully.

Fiery Hand (Soldier)
For this day, you become R'hllor's Fiery Hand. In a 1 vs. 1 scenario, if the Fiery Hand is the last man standing of his faction, his team wins the game.

The Fiery Shield (Guard)
R'hllor has given you the gift of binding people. At night, you may choose a player in the game to be blocked from performing any abilities they may possess.
Should there be 2 players with the ability to shield in the game both actions will resolve simultaneously. So, for instance if Shielder A targets Shielder B who targets Power role C, Power role C's role will be blocked.

Firestop (Freezer)
R'hllor has blessed you with the power of preventing ability sortings. At night, you may use your power by sending a PM to the mods to use your firestop. Assuming no other role intervenes, special abilities will not be reassigned at the end of the Night Phase.

The Gift of Pleasure (Jailer)
R'hllor has granted you one of his Temple Prostitutes for this Night. At night you may choose a player in the game to join you in indulging into the pleasures of the body by sending a PM with his name to the mods. Assuming no other role intervenes, you and the named player will both delight from the arts of love of the servant of R'hllor. While you're at it, other players may not disturb your guest. Said player will not be able to perform any special abilities they may possess.

Should there be 2 players with bed servants in the game their actions will resolve simultaneously. So, for instance if Player A invites Player B who invites Player C, Player C's ability will be blocked.

Glamour Ruby (Ascetic)
R'hllor has granted you the power of a glamour in the form of a Ruby Pendant. This protective charm makes you un-targetable at night by special active abilities, except shadowbinding & kills.

The Kiss of Fire (Martyr)
R'hllor has granted you the power to give life but it comes at the expense of yours: the gift of the kiss of fire. At night, you may choose a player to target by sending his name via PM to the mods. Assuming no other role intervenes, that player will be healed, and you will die in his place were he to be targeted. Said player, however, will lose the ability to receive blessings from the Red God for the rest of the game.

Leech with Royal Blood (Bomb/Unstoppable)
R'hllor has granted you the power to take life through blood magic, in the form of a Leech with royal blood.

Should you be lynched in a Day Phase while possessing the leech, at any time before the hammer, you may send the Mods a PM with the name of a player in your lynch mob. Should you be lynched, this player will die along with you.

You may also choose to burn the leech during the night. By doing so, you will make kills unblockable. This ability makes a kill unstoppable by any abilities such as heal, jails, guards, or martyr protections.

Milk of the Poppy (Role Booster)
You have been granted a flask of Milk of the Poppy. While it does not prevent death, it is a soothing potion helping ease pain and those feeling unwell. At night, you may choose a player to target by sending the mods his name via PM. Assuming no other role intervenes, if the player has been poisoned, he will still be allowed to perform his special abilities. This does not decrease the poison count on the player, but only removes its temporary disabling effect.

Ravens (Friend Makers)
For this Night, a raven has been given to you, to deliver a message among the Lords and Ladies that have been summoned. You are a schemer. During the night phase you may PM the mods a message containing up to 30 words to be delivered to another player. Assuming no other role intervenes, the message will be delivered during the next day phase. You will not be informed of your success. The player will not be informed the sender's identity unless you chose to reveal it in your message.

The Red Priest (Healer)
The Red God will hear your prayers for today. You are his designated Priest for this phase and thus you are a healer. Each night you may choose to Heal a player via PM to the mods. If they are targeted for a nightkill you will prevent that.

Shadowbinder (Vigilante):
Those who know the arts of fire may control the Shadows. R'hllor has granted you the gift of Shadowbinding for tonight. At night, you may choose a player to target by sending the mods his name via PM. Assuming no other role intervenes, that player will die at the end of the night.

The gift of Shadowbinding does not come without a cost. Shall you choose to cast your Shadow over a player, regardless of the outcome, you will lose the ability to use any other blessings granted by R'hllor for the rest of the game.

Sword Flamer (Lynch Protection)
R'hllor has blessed you with the gift of berserk. At night, you may PM the mods a player's name other than your own. Assuming to other role intervenes, the player will receive a fiery protection during the next day phase which will be publically announced. They may not be lynched during the given day phase. Any votes that are placed on the target will not count The player who has been made immune's vote still counts and majority is not affected.

The Tears of Lys (Delayed Poisoner):
R'hllor has blessed you with the art of poisoning. You have been granted a Jar of tears of Lys. A rare and expensive poison, it is clear, sweet as water and leaves no trace. One drop will cause a sickness in the bowels and belly, making it impossible for a player to perform special abilities during the following day/night phase (please note this does not prevent players from counting into the factional Kills). The damage of the tears of Lys is accumulative, and two drops on the same person will cause death.

At night, you may choose a player to target by sending his name via PM to the mods. Assuming no other role intervenes, that player will be poisoned. The player will be informed of his condition via a PM stating: "You have woken up feeling unwell. You may not be able to perform special abilities granted to you during this Day/Night phase."

The Test of Fire (Miller)
R'hllor has given you a test to prove your worth. For this day/night phase you shall be a Miller. Should a flame seer with revelation powers target you at night, assuming no other role intervenes, he will be informed you are a rebel. Should you be lynched or killed while undergoing this test, you will flip rebel.

Any of these abilities may have modifiers such as 'X-shot', (e.g. 1-shot), 'X-night' (e.g. even night).

Any abilities that are limited shot in nature will count as being used should a guard/healer with side effects prevent you from using your role. Likewise a vigilante's ability will be used up should they target a person who was healed or a bulletproof player.
