Could he be Benjen Stark? Has anyone thought about this? Obviously he is not the same man, something must have happened to him (something magical certainly) but it might explain why he knows so much about the Night´s Watch.
I dont want to google him cause i might get spoiled and i certainly dont want that, just wanted to see if anyone else thought about him being someone we already met in the books.

Oh wow, you're right. I have no idea where I even got that from. When I read your post I was like "What!? Of course there is! Let me prove it!" and grabbed my book. I then proved myself wrong, haha. Thanks for the correction! Nevertheless, I still think it's Benjen. With all the "Stark honor" he's the only character I can see resisting the Other's attempts to turn him into a wight.

You can politely decline, and if your courtesy is good enough - say, Sansa levels - then they might let you keep your soul. Other than that, you're as good as their bitch.

On the theory of Benjen Stark, it is plausible.
Supposedly Craster left his sons in the snow where the others would take them, some theories in the herecy thread say that this is how others are made, but I'm not convinced
We'll never know till good Ol' Martin writes it, so for now we can only speculate.

It was never explicitly stated, it was more of an assumption based on deductive reasoning. And no, seeing as you're forcibly turned into a wight after death I seriously doubt anyone can refuse. My statement about Stark honor was meant a little sarcasticly.

It wouldn't be the first time GRRM made reference after reference to a character only to have them die suddenly or just never resurface. Anyone remember Rickon?
With that said, I'm with you on this one. It really seems like GRRM must have SOME plan for Benjen to resurface. It seems a tragic waste of ink if not.

He is a Stark so we know he´s not some exotic guy from Asshai that dominates the arts of magic, not even a follower of Rh´llor. I hope that if it actually is him they explain with lots of detail how he changed into that. For Bran not to have recognize him means he doesnt even look like him anymore.
