1. Conleth Hill as Varys. Every time he speaks I squeal with joy.
2. Iain Glen as Jorah. He looks nothing like my mental image of book-Jorah, but he is wonderful regardless.
3. Maisie Williams' Arya is spectacular.
4. Harry Lloyd as Viserys. He made Viserys seem, like, human, you guys...

And as of the second episode of Season 2...

5. Joe Dempsie as Gendry. PERFECT.

EDIT: Add an honorable mention for Mark Addy's Robert Baratheon. He struck an impeccable balance between the man's total lack of dignity and his weirdly captivating presence.

Five really isn't enough. ):
So I'll gladly take the concept that Tyrion and Ned are understood and squeeze out the following for season 1;

- Varys
- Viserys
- Cersei
- Joffrey
- Drogo

Best casting decision so far into season 2(and mostly likely in whole series) has to be this guy.

Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister
She made me want to place scorpions in her underthings because I hate her both in the show and in the books. That said, Lena Headey plays the villain spectacularly.

Aidan Gillen as Petyr Baelish
He looks just the right amount of sly and could pull off false humility at a drop of a hat.

Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister
No explanation needed.

Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen
Regal, vulnerable and fierce.

Maisie Williams as Arya Stark
You can't help but admire the way she is played by this child-actress. She's belligerent but adorable. You kind of want her to succeed in everything she does.

I'd say Charles Dance, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Sean Bean, and Harry Lloyd.

Just about the entire cast is almost too good.

Some of my favorites are:

Tywin
Kingslayer
Littlefinger
The Spider
The Old Bear

Is The Mountain That Rides really not going to appear in season 2???? Why!!??

Some of the actors look/act so much like what I envisioned it's unbelievable.  Some examples are Tywin, Littlefinger, Drogo, VARYS.

So those were obviously great casting decisions.  I think Jaime is great, love all the Stark kids, Peter Dinklage & Sean Bean (duh), Gendry.

Emilia Clarke - close to perfect

Lena Headey - sooo much better in s2
Michelle Fairley - better in s2
Sophie Turner - neither the looks nor the acting so far
Sibel Kekilli - I like her, not bad

Sean Bean as Eddard Stark - couldn't have played him more perfectly in my opinion

Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister - as above

Jack Gleeson as Joffrey Baratheon - so good I wanted to throttle him

Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister

Maisie Williams as Arya Stark

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister

And as for those I don't care for...

Stannis, Robert and Renly, none of them are how I imagined them

Renly and Stannis I understand and (somewhat) agree with. But Robert? Mark Addy did a superb job, and it's strange that he doesn't get the credit he deserves from fans. He did a better acting job than Peter Dinklage in my opinion.

My Favorite:

Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister = Excellent, he can say so much with just a look he is prefect for the role.

Jack Gleeson as Joffrey Baratheon = I want to punch him in the face every time he's on the screen. excellently done.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister = Very well done.

Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister = Excellent, he definitely deserved the awards he has won for the role.

James Cosmo as Jeor Mormont = great present very commanding. great casting job

Honorable Mention:

Rory McCann as The Hound = I like the casting and can't wait to see more of him.

Ian McElhinney as Barristan Selmy = Very briefly seen but is very believable and can't wait to see him in the other seasons.

Sean Bean as Eddard Stark = Not too sure I can see anyone playing the role of Ned besides Sean, he is Ned Stark.

Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont = Can't wait for his scenes with Barristan.

Aidan Gillen as Petyr Baelish = Excellent job can't wait for his time in the Vale.

Wilko Johnson as Ilyn Payne = Very creepy, can't wait to see his scenes with Jaime.

Mark Stanley as Grenn = good casting, looks like an Aurochs.

Not my Favorites:

Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon = He did a good job with Robert personality and attitude but, he just doesn't come across as that once great Warrior of imposing size.

Gethin Anthony as Renly Baratheon = to me he didn't come across as the charming fun loving guy that he was in the books, he was too much of a wussy.

Exactly my feelings towards him

It was also stated a number of times that Renly was like a younger Robert, when he was a warrior. In the show I never got the impression he could do so much as punch someone, let alone be comparable to someone considered one of the best fighters in Westeros

1. Tyrion: Peter Dinklage: I don't have much more to say than what others have. Really captures Tyrion's wit.

2. Varys: Conleth Hill: I'm surprised he wasn't on more people's lists. I think his performance is so spot on, he has supplanted the image of Varys when I read the books 100%.

3. Twyin: Charles Dance: Just from that one scene he gives such an impression of dangerous, humorless Twyin.

4. Peytr Baelish: Aiden Gillen: A lot of people seem to have complaints about Gillen, but I think he's phenomenal. Perfect balance of wit, intellect, and false humility. I thought his scenes with Sansa played really well, and really creepily. I await the Eyrie...

5. Cersei -

Lena Headey: I actually thinks she brings a lot more complexity to the part than we get from the first book. She's absolutely believable in one of the parts that could have gone closer to cartoonish/straight up villainous.

Hon. Mentions:

Robert, Cleganes, Starks (esp. Arya)

If, as has seemingly become the convention, I leave out Sean Bean and Peter Dinklage because they're too obvious:

1. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime
2. Aiden Gillen as Littlefinger
3. Maisie Williams as Arya
4. Charles Dance as Tywin
5. Jack Gleeson as Joffrey

I had no idea this thread was still going, so I'll add my list for season two...

Liam Cunningham - Davos
Duh.  He's almost too much of a leading man for the role, but that's why I liked HBO's move.  MORE DAVOS!!!

Lucian Msmati - Sally Saan
I know there was a big to-do on the boards about my favorite Pirate being cast as a black man, but I liked his first scene with Davos.  I hope to see more of him.

Joe Dempsie - Gendry
Nailed it.

Patrick Malahide - Balon Greyjoy
I don't know if it was his crazy outfit, that badass Kraken fireplace, or what; That dude scared me.  I never really respected Balon in the books

Carice Van Houten - Melisandre
I'm not sold yet.  But she's damn hot.  HBO's gotta get the viewer's attention.
