This is my second version of Great Book, Lousy Movie and Vice Versa. This one is specific to the Hunger Games trilogy and the first movie, which premieres today, in particular. I personally loved the books, although they went downhill in my opinion as they progressed. I am looking forward to the movie. Please feel free to discuss if the book was better than the movie, if the movie was better than the book, or whether they were of same quality.

I have not seen this movie, but there is a thread in the Entertainment Forum where those who have seen it are discussing it:

My husband and I the movie and thought it was excellent.  I had read the trilogy and recommended the first book. And then the other two were published.  A great idea not fully realized was the problem, IMO.
My husband had not read the books but really like the movie.  EW's review is dead on with an A-.

I liked it better than the book. I felt the two leads had absolutely no chemistry, but that could be considered deliberate given the SPOILERS.

The book was really overrated, so it's not surprising that the film is getting a bit of stick.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I agree with you on the books going downhill as they progressed. Also, the movie should have been R-rated.

Decent movie.  Decent adaptation.  Caesar Flickerman is better in the movie than in the book: like a cross between Oprah and Damon Killian.

Did you mean to use a spoiler? I tried to open it and I couldn't. Just wondering why you thought it should have been R-rated. I haven't seen it yet.

I'm looking forward to watching Stanley Tucci. I didn't particularly agree with that casting decision, but the producers must have their reasons. I love him as an actor, though.

Do you mean the spoiler in my signature? That's just a dumb joke. Considering the violence in the book, and some gruesome deaths, then the movie should have been R-rated. But I haven't seen the movie, so I'm only guessing that some of those deaths are not fully shown. And if the third movie gets the PG-13 treatment, then a lot of deaths won't really be shown.

I was listening to Howard Stern today and they announced that ABC Family has aquired the television rights for the movie. I'm assuming that even more editing will have to be done in order for it to be shown on TV and by that channel specifically.

I thought the movie was much, much better than the book, though I wouldn't call the book lousy.

just saw the movie. Definitely does not fall in this topic's category.
At least 95% of the story was followed, and followed well.

I actually have not read the book and saw the movie and was not impressed with it. To me, it seemed as though the movie was better suited as a companion to the book i.e. the movie was not made for people like me who have not read the series. Just a few scenes, to me, seemed poorly done and snapped me out of what had been a pretty engrossing experience.

Basically, the film made it up to the arena for me before it fell apart and then a combination of things just made it a mediocre movie for me. I'd give it a B-/C+.

It's a decent effort. Shakey cam gave me mild motion sickness but they really lucked out with the lead actress Jennifer Lawrence. Excellent in Winter's Bone and very solid in this. Really carries the movie.
