I'm having trouble following some of the conversations because I don't know all the abbreviations. I couldn't find a glossary, if there already exists one please point me in the direction and it would be appreciated.

Some of them I figured out like the names of the novels (AGoT, ACoK, ASoS, AFFC, ADWD) and others that are apparent from the context they're in (I'm guessing CotF = Children of the Forest), but there are many many others that I can't puzzle out. Often times people will just use a single letter and it's not obvious from the context who or what they're talking about.

I've read all five novels and watched the show, but I'm new here and the conversations are intriguing but my feeble mind is having trouble keeping up...can anyone pat me on the head and tell me eveything's gonna be ok?

Edit: I have gone through the thread and put all the abbreviations I could find in this first post so it can be helpful for others. Apologies if I missed any, mods feel free to edit/add as necessary. Thanks to everyone who helped, special thanks to Silver Spearwife and CrypticWeirwood.

Well, if you'd list some you're having issues with, we could all (or some) answer them for you /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Oh, and you are correct about CotF!

The thought occurred to me, too. I had trouble but I'm pretty certain I've got them all. Here's what I can remember.

RW: Red Wedding
R+L=J: Rhaegar and Lyanna are Jon's parents
AA (or AAR): Azor Ahai (or Azor Ahai Reborn)
CotF: Children of the Forest
BR: Bloodraven
PtwP: Prince that was Promised
GoT vs AGoT: One refers to the show, the other to the first book

Can't think of any others.

Thank you to everyone, they were all helpful. One that I'm not clear on is AA = Azor Ahai. As I mentioned I've read all the novels but as we all know that's a lot of reading and sometimes the memory is a bit fuzzy; I don't remember AA, or Azor Ahai.

The wiki on this site might help jog your memory on some things. Here is the entry for Azor Ahai: http://awoiaf.wester...x.php/Azor_Ahai

Note: the wiki isn't always perfect, but it is OK for working out who's who in the zoo.

Thank you, that definitely helps. And I'm sure future newcomers will benefit from this thread.

I'd like to add my own abbreviation in case no one's already mentioned it: TKMNN = They Killed Mah Niggah Ned (if you're unfamiliar, check youtube for reactions to Ned's death) /drunk.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':drunk:' />

I hate the abbreviations and generally ignore them. Fight the power!!!!!! Also, there's a list on the FAQ page.

I just found another one. QoT = Queen of Thornes.

@Lord LIttlefinger's Lash: I agree with you and I will fight the power! It's ok to abbreviate somethings such as the titles of the books, but other abbreviations are just silly. Like R + L? I don't think it takes that much time/effort to type a name. I think it's appropriate to refer to Lord Eddard Stark as Ned, but if you just say N or E, soon everyone is going to be reduced to a letter and nobody will be able to follow the conversations.

Just my $0.02, people are free to type how they please. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Yup. Mostly generally to refer to those who first watched the series.

LF = Littlefinger
N+A=J = Ned+Ashara=Jon (theory on Jon's parentage)
BR = Bloodraven
SanSan = Sansa+Sandor

That are the ones I can think of now.

I think I've seen KotLT used for Knight of the Laughing Tree.

It took me ages to figure that out!
