ETA drove me insane when I was first reading the forums and hadn't seen it in other forums. I couldn't get Basque Seperatism out my head when I saw it. Well at least now I know.

I think this one is fairly logical, but just adding KL=King's Landing.

I had problems with OTOH (on the other hand) when I joined here, quickly puzzled out others.

Perhaps we should condense all the abbreviations into one post, or maybe add it to the main wiki that already has some abbreviations?

ETA can also be "expected time of arrival". As in "what is the ETA on book 6?".

Don't forget the WOT5K, which is over, as LF braces for the WOT3Q.

Also, not an abbreviation, but I have seen Qyburn's creation, aka Ser Robert Strong, be referred to as the Qyborg.

edit: also, the PWWP (Prince Who was Promised) and the YMBQ (Younger, More Beautiful Queen).

Many of these are achaic carry-overs from usenet:

FWIW, OTOH, YMM, AFAIK, etc... (For what it's worth, on the other hand, your mileage may vary, as far as I know)

@ Awesome Oberyn Martell

In normal times, people might know if you are male or female.  Or at least your friends will know.  Twice in a row you have been KotP, or QotP.

Hah Hah figure it out.

Thank you Fragile Bird. I just finished reading the books and I thought I had a firm grasp of the aSoIaF, but being overwhelmingly pissed of about Jon fate (and throwing the book across the room) I went to the internet to gather what people imagined would happen to him. As I found this forum I was blown away by the amount of knowledge and events that passed me by. I have been reading a lot of threads ever since. :D

PS: sry for being a little of topic...

The magical place where Jon was conceived.

(Also known as "Rhaegar's needle.")

You can bet Lyanna was seated atop that tower of joy for quite some time.

The flood of newbies registering here as the TV show premiered, or the new book was released, or something to that effect, I believe.

Fl00b is a concatenation of "flood" and "noobs", so a flood of noobs, basically meaning "lots of new people", which was what happened when GoT launched on HBO. Before that, the people on the board were all here because of the books, but with the TV-series a huge amount of new people arrived.

Us oldbies a bit sarcastically refer to it as "the fl00b". ;)

You can imagine what it was like during the first couple of weeks when we got 10 "OMG u gyus I think NEd isnt Jons dad!!???" threads a day. Overall it's nice with new faces and over time, things will settle down and people who can't behave will be shucked out, while the nice ones will stay. As it has always been. :)

Ah thanks!

Yeah, I can imagine the first weeks or months must have been very annoying at times

If Rhaegar is alive, Tormund Giantsbane would like to sue him because "Tower of Joy" is one of the registered names of his member.
