Valyria was inspired by roman empire
And there's some theory that says Arthur was a roman knight

Arthur's sigil was also the red dragon. like Targaryen
Arthur united britain
And Aegon united Westeros.

What do you think?

Hi Ricebug,
I have the impression that the figure of Aegon I was more inspired by William the Conqueror who conquered England and founded a complete new dynasty (some say new kingdom). I don't think that Martin ever said that he created Aegon with a historical person in mind. Martin drew a lot from English history but said he did not "convert on a one to one basis".

Thanks Scafloc.
No convert on a one to one basis.
The link was helpful.

And I lately noticed that this board is for wiki itself, not the world of asoiaf.
Sorry. I'll notice it next time.

If anyone was inspired by the Pendragon, it's probably Arthur Dayne--Sword of the Morning. His sword, Dawn, is the ancestral sword of House Dayne. The sword passes to the knight most worthy of wielding it--kind of like Excalibur.
