I'm a newbie, I just joined. I just finished watching season 1 on HBO on Demand.
I have a lot of questions about plot, characters. I don' t. Want to have to read the books to find out the answers. So can someone steer me in the right direction?

I have a question - it's minor but has begun bothering me. All of the toolbars at the top of my 'post' window (including smiley faces) are grayed out, which I assumed was for the good cause of conserving 'site power' with the sharply increased traffic lately, which would be fine. But I've been noticing that other posters are still able to access things like the 'bolding' and 'smiley face' features, whereas I can't. Is there something I can do to 'un-gray' my toolbars? Or is there a 'trick' that I just don't know about to create those effects?

That's strange. Toolbar works for me. What browser are you using?O
Oh, nevermind. Try clicking the upper left most icon. That's a switch that turns the toolbar on and off. When I click it to turn it off, it grays everything else out for me as well.A
As to how to use emotes and bold and such without the toolbar? Some people (like me) just type the various BBCodes in directly.

i have a question about my avatar pic. i joined westeros.org last year and had kept the same avatar since. but this morning i wanted to change it, and now i can't either upload a photo from my files or link one from the internet. and i don't even have my old pic now 
i hope i made sense and please help. it's sad not to have an avatar...
