GRRM on Season 3

George R.R. Martin has posted about the Season 3 renewal, and he adds some interesting information: the number and working title of the episode he’ll be writing for that season, while apparently confirming that it’ll be a 10 episode season:Like the first two seasons, it will be ten episodes long. This one will cover (roughly) the first half or thereabouts of A STORM OF SWORDS, the third novel in the series.I’ll be writing the seventh episode, with the working title “Autumn Storms.”

Love the title, but I would have guessed that he would write the RW. He seems to write the most important episode each season. So does this mean the RW won't take place next season?

Thank the gods. I was worried they wouldn't split ASOS because there was no word in the announcements I read. Autumn Storms? Ep. 7? What do you think it'll be about? It'd be an odd name for rw, so that's prolly not it, but it was raining, wasn't it? It's been awhile, but I seem to remember rain. Plus, itd be weird if he didn't write rw, wouldn't it? I guess b&w couldve decided they would be the ones, since its ultimately their call. What do you guys think?

Glad to see some official confirmation that aSoS is getting split for tv. It's the right move. If the second half of the book gets 10 episodes as well, it'll be pretty interesting to see how much detail they can include with 20 episodes to devote to one book.

Well GRRM had a hard time writing the RW the first time, maybe he didn't want to have to do it twice. The RW takes place just after the middle of ASOS so it would fit the timeline. It'd be pretty odd to start season 4 with it.

I like to think that he and D&D had a little argument about who would write it and it ended in a coin flip :P

I think it's likely that we may not get it this season if it's only covering half. RW is about 2/3 through, though they could easily alter the timeline to make it happen towards the end of the season in either case. Stilll, very excited to see how the rest of it turns out. We're not here just for that, y'know!

Great news, I'm really glad they're splitting ASOS into two seasons; was afraid they might try to cram it all into one season. I thought the 3rd season would cover more than (roughly) half of ASOS, so I hope this means season 4 ends where ASOS ends, and that they don't try to add in too much from AFFC or ADWD into the fourth season.

Curious as to where they'll decide to end the season, and what will be covered. Apparently season 2 has moved some events from ASOS into the 2nd season, so that will be intersting to see how it plays out.

I guess they could put Joffrey's wedding as the season premeire of the eventual 4th season. since the RW and His death are about 100 or so pages apart.

Besides all the wedding talk, I want to see the show build up Oberyn Martell - similar to how they're building up Robb this season - along with the Dornish culture. Book 3 is where they become players, and it'd be great to have audiences become acquainted with how cool Oberyn is. Depending on how they write the series, he'll be front and center in Season 4 for

the greatest duel in the entire saga.

Interesting title.

Reading that title reminded of the bit where Arya and The Hound cross the flooding river in the pole boat. I know that's a fairly insignificant scene (that could easily be cut) to base a title on but I just thought I'd share anyway :P

Looking forward to this season already even though you'd think I'd be more focused on season 2 right now.

They might end it with dany taking over that one place and her meeting Daario. I'm pretty sure Dacarys is in one of the early Dany chapters.

I'm not exactly sure where they are on the books, but pretty sure that you could fit in Joffrey's wedding in the 10th episode.

That's true. I think they'll end around the same time with dany though. She hasn't really done much this season so far. so I think they'll still end it with her taking the ships. Could be way off though.

I think I misread your post, I thought you were talking about ASOS being moved up into season too.

He writes one of the most important episodes every season. Episode 7 is the Red Wedding. Hands down.

They are not going to put it in the ninth episode. People would be expecting something big to happen at that point. "Why is this scene at the Frey's wedding being given so much time and effort put into it...SOMETHING'S GONNA HAPPEN ISN'T IT?!"

Episode 7 is the Red Wedding, it is known. And it shall be glorious...

Ugh, I'm so excited. Can't even think about the possibilities of season 3 since I'm just psyched that season 2 is here, I think my head will explode! :blink:

I'm very happy we are getting another season of this fantastic series. Oh, I'm glad they are splitting it because a lot happens in ASoS. It was a wise choice. YAY!

I agree with the first one, but somewhere in there we also got to get Dany. I doubt that we will see more than one battle per season.

Im hoping they beef up his screen time a bit too.

]Even in the book epic as his character is all you get is his arrival, 3-4 interactions with Tyrion and the duel. The proverbial brightest star burning out the fastest.
