(BOOK SPOILERS.) Episode Endings for season 3

It's a bit early I know, but I was just wondering what you guys all thought would end the episodes for season 3. Personally I'm thinking:

1 - Night's Watch breaking free of The Fist: It doesn't happen onscreen in the books, but it's the only real dramatic event near the beginning of SOS.

2 - Arya's identity being revealed to the BWB

3 - Jaime losing his hand

4 - Sansa's and Tyrion's wedding

5 - Jon and the wildlings climbing The Wall

6 - Dracarys!: Takes place a bit later than in the books, but Dany's arc is so out of sync with the rest that it's very flexible.

7 - Queenscrown: Martin has said that he'll be writing episode 7 and it will be called Autumn Storm. This works quite well with the storm and all :P

8 - Sam and Gilly being rescued by Coldhands

9 - The Red Wedding

10 - Mysha!

Actually I'm kind of torn between when the RW will take place. Having Queenscrown in E7 and the RW in E10 sort of involves stretching things thin a bit, so perhaps the RW can take place in E9 and "Mysha!" can be E10, which would include some denouement.

I like your order, Protar.

I think the final scene of Episode 10 - will be Catelyn being revived by Lord Beric. That way the scene will tie up both the BWB and King in the North story lines for the season. I do want somebody to remind the audience that 'Only death can pay for life'.

I think one episode will end with Sandor vs. Beric and subsequent kidnapping of Arya.

Part of me thinks that Episode 7 is too early for Queenscrown, I thought Jon fleeing the Wildlings would be a good place to end his story for the season. Unless they end Episode 9 with Jon warning the Night's Watch that the Wildlings are coming?

I don't think we'll be getting the Uncat reveal quite so soon, I was more thinking the final scene of S4 E10 so we get a whole season to build it up.

Sandor vs. Beric would be a pretty good episode ending, it could feasibly happen as the end of E5 which I actually like more than Jon climbing The Wall.

And I think that E7 is just right for Queenscrown if the RW is in E9. That means we get E8 to set up the RW nicely and I think that Jon's arc could finish with the NW watching Mole's Town burn and preparing to face the wildlings.

I think it will be a contractual move showing it in S3 E10. Michelle Fairley is contracted for the season, so she will definitely be available for 3.10, but not necessarily for 4.10 as she might have (and hopefully will have) other acting commitments.

After that point they don't really need UnCat to be played by Fairley. The next time you are going to need her is when she meets Brienne again, giving her a multiepisode arc - and when she meets Jaime again.

The burning of Mole's town would be a good place to end the arc!

As I've said in the "Game of Thrones Renewed!" thread I think that Brienne's arc will be moved forward to S4 and that'll be the first time we see Uncat. Seeing as they'll only really need her for a few scenes after the RW, it shouldn't be that difficult to find time on her schedule. I do think they'll try and keep Michelle for the role though, especially at the reveal, otherwise it'd be like: "eh? Who the hell is that?"

I think moving the Brienne storyline forward would make perfect sense, especially if Sansa's location is not revealed until S5. I think that would tighten the season up considerably and is more like 'striking while the iron is hot' and Catelyn is still firmly in the audience's mind.

However that will suffer considerably from 'eh what?! I thought she was dead?!'... It's going to be a case of show don't tell with UnCat's resurrection. Though the audience would still get the sense of shock when Cat orders Brienne (and Pod) hanged.

Well I doubt that we'll be going without Sansa for a whole season. I we get the PW in S4 E2 than the start of E3 would likely be Sansa's flight to the Eyrie.

And really I don't think it'll be that jarring that Cat turns out to be alive, no more than in the books anyway. Providing they set up Thoros' ressurection powers it should work fine.

I don't think we'll be seeing the PW in S3. Martin has said that it'll cover roughly half of SOS. Even the RW is stretching it a tad there, so the PW is a no go.

1. I think s2 should end on the third horn blowing at the Fist. If so then this ep ends with the battle against the Others and Sam & co fleeing. If not, third horn should end this ep.

2. Davos arrested.

3. Arya revealed to BwB.

4. Sam kills a White Walker.

5. Jaime's hand is cut off.

6. Dracarys!

7. Night's Watch mutiny.

8. Queenscrown drama.

9. "Mother!" @ Yunkai.

10. Jaime Lannister sends his regards.

  • 3 weeks later...

I think season 2 will end with the prologue to book 3, which the three horns and the attack of the Others. Would really work well, I think.

I love this idea! And in the most recent episode (5), they even set it up with Sam, Dolorous Edd and Jon talking about the "one for rangers, two for foes, three for white walkers" system.

Balon's Death is another episode ender that I think is possible. Start the episode with Melisandre burning the three leeches and end it with Balon being shoved off the bridge, leaving the viewers wondering wether that's another shadow baby or seeing through that Melisandre is just cleverly using the prediction powers (who need to be established beforehands though). The good thing is that story arc can conceivably put anywhere before the red wedding...

I agree that it makes much more sense to put her in 3.10 than in 4.

This becomes much trickier.

First, I do not believe there is any way in hell we are going to get a hellish ghoul with tattered flesh and bared bone on her face when Catelyn is revived, any more than we are going to get Tyrion Halfnose after Bywater. It’s much too hard/expensive/tedious to fake. You also want Michelle Fairley to be recognizable to the audience.

As for which season that Brienne gets hanged in, we have no idea. My money is on it occurring earlier rather than later. That may even mean it will happen in the fourth season rather than in the fifth or sixth. Again, you can’t just leave people hanging for years.

I see what you did there.

Too long. The North may remember, but fickle TV audience forget.

I don't think it's too long at all. The TV audience is hardly going to forget the RW. When would you suggest it? Not being rude I'm honestly curious, you can't just have a random disconnected scene of Cat being rezzed and the impact will be lessened if it only happens a little while after the RW. While it doesn't work quite as well, TV shows can have long build-ups you know.
