So, has anyone read it?

I just got a review copy in the mail today. While I enjoy satire, mockery and the like, I don't really have any desire to read this one. But I'd love to hear the thoughts of any on this board who have.

I skimmed a little bit of it in a bookstore yesterday. I was... not amused.  Maybe if I gave it a more serious read, I'd laugh, but somehow I doubt it.  The writer came off as someone who mistakenly thought they were hilarious.

Glad it wasn't just me, REG.  The blurb in your link? The whole fucking thing reads exactly like that.

Ah these type of fantasy parodies usually suck.  The only good ones I've ever found are the Goodkind parodies.  Probably because they were written by fucking geniuses.

Jesus Christ.  How does this get published?  That blurb reads like the rejected first draft of Your Highness.

I assumed it was self-published; but then, how did it work its way into a B&N?

To be fair, Goodkind is a self-parody.

Not selfpublished. Published by Virgin Books. Maybe not the biggest player out there, but still a traditional publisher.

There are probably more laughs in a single page of “If ASOIAF were written by …”  thread on this board.

I don't even have to pick this up to know how it goes.  A few sample passages.

"Ned Shark swam through the frozen moat at Wintershell while waiting for King Robert the Fat to arrive"

"Jaimie was going to go hunting with the boys, but Cersei incested  he stay."

Note:  These are not real passages, just my assumption on how the whole book will be.

Unfortunately, yes. It's just the latest manifestation of a sub-genre that started (and probably should have ended) with The Harvard Lampoon's Bored Of The Rings. Every so often, someone reads Bored, finds it really amusing and then thinks that they can toss off a parody of another well-known work, in a similar style.

AHHHH. And people with real writing talent have a hard time getting published? Fuck, cats and dogs living together, the province of Alberta is going to go even more right wing in todays election, and i've started nodding my head in agreement to some of the stuff that Sci says. Shitballs man, this is all starting to swirl the drain.
