I've just listed a new, unblemished copy of Book 4, A FEAST FOR CROWS.

http://www.ebay.com/...c9#ht_578wt_922

What should be of interest to forum members, collectors, fans, etc, is that the buyer of this copy will own the rights to the same number for Book 5 as I did not preorder the book... But you will already have to have purchased/preordered Book 5.

I'll be glad to answer questions, etc.

Not sure if I missed something, but if you didn't pre order the next book yourself, then sub press considers that as a waiver of your rights. Owners of DwD(book 4) had about two or three months from the announcement of DWD to order their copy. Otherwise they went on sale to the general public. I'm about 99% sure of this. That's why the guy that's currently selling his set on eBay a piece at a time said he can't transfer rights to future books. I think you might want to update the listing, otherwise there may be a buyer down the road that will be in for a big surprise, not in a good way.

I am continually amazed at how many people screw this up.

Is it really that hard to figure out?  Seriously?

You HAVE to preorder these books as they are made available, the minute you do not you have waived ALL rights to that book and they are then sold to the general public.

I've never been put in this situation obviously since I keep pretty careful track of this sort of thing but i would think Bill from SP would have the courtesy to start sending out reminder emails to his numbered and lettered rights holders as the deadline approaches.

If the guy who is selling his set a piece at a time really has been forced to do this because he didn't preorder Dance with Dragons on time with SP, he is a MONUMENTAL idiot.  Not only is he going to lose thousands of dollars but he will have broken up a matching set . . . which is a tragedy considering how many have been broken up over the years . . .

It's pretty simple really. I emailed Bill at SubPress, asked if the buyer of this book could ask for the rights to acquire #404 of ADWD as long as they had reserved and paid for one of the unclaimed numbered copies, and he said the buyer may do so. But time is short, and that's not me being dramatic... Once those books arrive they're going to start packing and shipping them.  That's why the book has to be bought now and not down the road.

Those numbers that were unclaimed are not assigned to anyone right now. That's why you would ask for, or put in a claim for that #. Bill at SubPress is a good businessman and he's also a really nice guy.  I just recently ordered my matching numbered copy of THE FIRST LAW -LAST ARGUMEMT OF KINGS , ordered it literally after the books showed up and started shipping. I quickly paid for my copy through the website, then emailed Bill to ask if they could please still match my number from the first 2 books in the series. Never got a response back as Bill and crew are busy guys, but when it arrived it was the matching number.

Copy #404 will of the series will not remain publicly available and unattached forever. Once someone acquires #404 of Book 5 from SubPress - and again, you have to have already paid for one of the unclaimed numbered copies to get one -  the rights to your # for all future releases in the series are yours, as long as you keep buying them. Again, I've been buying books from Bill for years. This is how it works. he would rather have a buyer who wants the series with the matching numbers as it means a full edition sellout as quickly as possible. He gains nothing from having a number unassigned.

Actually, whoever bought #404 of ASOS never bought the matching of AFFC, thats how I got it and would still have the rights going forward if I just would've paid for Book 5.  But I decided not to collect this series any further, thus I'm selling it.

Hope this helps explain this a bit. I've read on this board and others how confusing this whole thing seems to get and I understand the frustration...I'm a long time book collector and have a pretty good handle on this stuff.
