If you were the Basterd of Winterfell and you were already a sworn member of the Night's Watch, and you get news that your father has been imprisoned for treason and your brother Robb has decided, as Interim Lord of Winterfell, to go to war to free your father and defend his honor, what would you do?

I'd probably ride south.

TBH, though, I wouldn't have signed up.

Would you ride to meet with Robb or fight on his outer lines so he doesn't know you are there?

Eh, what could I do? Mormonts right, it's not like I'm some strategic genius that Robb desperately needs. My presence on the battlefield wouldn't make much difference

I would have taken Stannis' offer, though :cool4:  Except for the R'Hllor part

So you would have become legitimized and been the Lord of Winterfell, with one, presumably, Hott wife?  How would you get around the R'Hllor part?

Since I am not suicidal, I'd stay at the Wall. It's not like one man can help much anyway. Plus even if I manage to reach Robb and he doesn't execute me for oathbreaking (which is a long shot), the political negatives of this would be more than the positives my presence can bring to the Starks cause.

This is a very good perspective on it, but do you think at the time you find out your father is dead, you would be thinking logically or would you instinctively get on a horse and take off?  I think you are right that it would be very negative for the Starks

Because Stannis knows Jon would get him the North. I give Stannis the North, he lets me keep the Old Gods (and Winterfell).

This is true, you get Stannis the North and he will basically give you anything you want :cool4: ! Now, would you ask Stannis for a small army to man Winterfell until you can get your banners to rally to yours/Stannis's aide?

I wouldn't ask for too many. He'd likely offload the worthless and untrustworthy ones on you. I wouldn't want the Queens Men around me in Winterfell. I'd also take no more than a handful of Wildlings, it wouldn't gain much favour from the North if I arrive at Winterfell with Southerners and Wildlings. I take the gamble that Stannis defeats the Boltons, Manderly etc. declare and that everyones hatred of Theon gets me some fans.

I'd get drunk and visit Mole Town, then spend the next few years serving Mormont tea until someone else became LC since I was obviously unfit after they took a closer look at me during the "grooming" process.

This is true, I mean I think too many wildlings and southron Lords and Queen's men would defeat the purpose of you becoming the Lord of Winterfell to get the North on your side, but how do you convince the North to not only fight for you but Stannis as well?

It's tricky, the most obvious card is that as Lord of Winterfell they're sworn to provide troops for you. One big thing would be if Stannis kicked the Ironborn out he'd win himself some friends already and it'd be easier to convince others. It's mainly a case of "I'm your Lord, Stannis is my King"

I think I would've done what Jon ended up doing. In the heat of the moment, having just learned my Father was killed and my half brother was off waging war against those that did it, I'd want to rush off and join him, too. I'm glad Jon had good friends that didn't let him do it, though. Also, I don't think Jon should take Stannis' offer either. I'm hoping there are much bigger things ahead for him. :)

Ahh yes I see, that would probably work, the I am your lord, he is my king, so assist in this cause.  Now as Lord of Winterfell and the Ironborn gone, what is your first order of business?  Who is your number 1 target?  Lannister? Frey? Bolton?

I think that the friends ended up saving his life and prolonged their downfall, but you wouldn't take Stannis's offer?  Would you take it if he guaranteed you that he would search for your other siblings, when the war was over?

I would've stayed at the Wall. I would die a deserter if I tried to leave the Wall, even if I aided Robb or Eddard, they wouldn't think very highly of my breaking my vows to the NW. I'm not that good enough a warrior or commander to turn the tide of battle or war in the Starks' favor.
