But we have a problem here people -
The best 2 episodes of this season:
Tonight's episode - "Virtual Systems Analysis"
and "Remidial Chaos Theory"
The problem you ask?
Neither of these episodes had that much "laugh out loud" moments. They were there, even more in tonight's epsiode than in
"Remdial Chaos Theory" Pierce's interjection, Annie's run off of Abed phrases, Abed's system crash in the show and his freak out in the end tag.
Even so, with these 2 episodes they are more "cool, cool, cool," due to sci-fi/fantasy speculitive storytelling than "funny, funny, funny"
What happens when a situation comedy becomes more cool than funny? Rogue Sitcom! This could have ramification impacting the entire face of television landscape as we know it.
The horror.
I'm scared, but...I'm not?

Or it was Leonard hiding in the bushes. . . "I don't have cable"
Troy's "confessions" were great, especially "I use comparisions to Hitler to win arguments on the Internet at the drop of a hat". Actually that whole scene was great - including the "making out" and "kissing".

At least we can be comforted that it hasn't slipped as far as 30 Rock (cross fingers knock on wood etc...).

Whoa, I laughed constantly through the whole thing. And then again on second viewing. The little things like the way McHale plays Abed playing Jeff are what get me every time.
Annie's freakout where she calls him Jeff and then corrects herself.
Abed as Trou and Britta both kissing the air.
I laughed more at Chaos Theory then at any other episode. And at last night's more than most.

This. Completely lost it when I heard him say "I like butt stuff." And his rant about Inception almost had me crying only because I can relate.

Troy's confessions was great. It had to be played the way it was played because to tone it down would have made it less funny but something being over the top the way it was also makes me less likely to laugh out loud.
Pierce's subtler "I'm just interjecting to say I have no idea what's going on" did make me laugh.
And Leonard is my second least favorite recurring character after Magnitude. I haven't found him funny since the car accident episode in season 2.
Oh and BTW, I dreamed the entire Paintball III, I don't know if they are doing it this year but nothing can match how it played out in my dream...epic!

Annie: "Who do you think inseminated her?"
As with other episodes in the season, I still feel like this episode was built the wrong way round. I still laughed and enjoyed it, but I felt like the character growth aspect was pushed too strongly. In the first season or so, the stories were funny and that led to (often subtle) character growth. But this season, the stories are about character growth, and occasionally funny. I much prefer the former.

Troy saved the episode with his truth-rant. The Inception moment was priceless. I'm sure a lot of people have felt like that and i like how the writers were implying that no-one wants to admit it.
I also agree that Mchale did an excellent job of playing abed, playing Jeff. The others had similar moments but not as great as Mchale's attempt. It also goes to show how well these characters have been fleshed out with their mannerisms when I can pick up on them when other actors use them.
But there needs to be an episode where the dreamotrium is destroyed.

Compared to all the other references in the show, i wouldn't say it was that dated. The interpretation of the ending of Inception is something that still divides my friends so i'd say there's a lot of people don't "get" the film. Not every joke on the show works for everybody. Case in point, i've never seen the show they were parodying in the latest episode so I'm sure i didn't pick up on a lot of moments. Luckily most crime/legal dramas are similar so it was possible to see what they were poking fun at.

Also, christ, is Starburns really dead? That's a really harsh tonal shift there and i'm trying to figure out what they mean by it.

I wonder how long after signing Omar did they decide they would use that quote at some point. my guess is five seconds
good episode overall, if not as good as the last two.
especially loved: the beginning, with two guys randomly finding the "body"
the scene where neal keeps filing stuff as the detectives interrogate him
id like to remind everyone that this is not a court of law
and most of all abed rant about the system.

This was my favorite scene. It was played EXACTLY the way it's been played in every crime drama in existence. Heck, I think even Monk does it the same way. The bored, overworked municipal filing clerk (or librarian... or historian who works in the basement) who doesn't have time to stop what he's doing while detectives question him.
The scene with the "coroner" was almost the same. I could swear that I've seen the actress they used do the exact same scene somewhere else; it was that convincing.

She is actually the actress who plays the medical examiner on the now canceled Law and Order - she was on the show for years.

I just read that. I knew I'd seen her somewhere doing the same thing. Weird thing is, I don't think I've ever consciously seen a full episode of Law & Order. Yet somehow the way she did the scene was instantly recognizable.
