Which characters did we lose to soon? End of third book

This is for all characters up to the third book ending. It hurts to see some of the characters go from the Red Wedding, wild attack, and other events. From the first 3 books, which characters do you think we lost way too soon? Personally, I was enjoying the Dornishman Oberyn Martell, the Red Viper, feel like we lost him way too soon. Tough, does things his way, and seemed to be a family dude looking for justice. Was intrigued by him, then he died.

It's all subjective. When Ned was beheaded I was baffled, but thats what drew me in to the world and story of ASOIAF. The world of Westeros reflects our own in that anyone be killed. It's not your typical good vs. evil cutout, where good will win, at impossible odds.

There are certain characters that I wish hadn't died, but they did. It's Martins story, he has control over it. Plus, the story is great, and I wouldn't change a thing.

Oberyn Martell was my favorite character while he lasted. He died in the sickest way that only reinforced my love for the character.

Yeah, you definitely have to admire how he went out. I like him a lot to, I really wish he could have been around longer, or we got to know him sooner.

Red Viper's definitely at the top. Robb's death was a heavy blow, mainly because he seemed to be so good (for a teenager after all) at grasping the concept of honor and courage that his dad stood for. I thought that GRRM would kill Catelyn at some point because it would serve as growing pains for Robb (who of course had some already), but I'm not sure what his death was meant for, if anything. I'm also sad that we couldn't have more of Syrio Forel (assuming he's really dead), Maester Luwin (such a huge source of knowledge about Westeros), and Renly (his charm and charisma could have won over the people of Westeros).

I had always thought the Greatjon had died at the Red Wedding... I think if he's really alive, he might still play a big part in the story, because he's a strong(not only physically) character. If not the Starks the Umbers are my best option for ruling the north after them.

Aside from Oberyn and Robb ofc, I was kinda sad for the hound's (apparent) death. I really thought he might change sides, even if out of spite, to avenge what his brother did.

Another one which was kinda depressing was Ygritte's. If she had lived though, I think Jon would have accepted Stannis' offer without hesitation and taken her for wive and been Lord of Winterfell,

I just finished today and have to agree w/a lot of you Oberyn went waaaay too soon. I liked him and wanted to see more. I'm hoping to see more Dornishmen in the next 2 books. Robb was a big loss I thought, I liked him & thought he had future potential. Sandor Clegane in this book and last was becoming a favorite and am disappointed he's out of action now. I could've sworn Jon wouldn't make it past this book, glad he's around still :).

I just finished A Storm in the last couple days and I would have to say Oberyn like many others have said before me. I was just warming up to him and enjoying his character and poof...suddenly he was gone. That is the problem with starting to like characters in these novels. I also will miss Ygritte. I really enjoyed the chapters with her in them and not because of all the fun times. She was so feisty and showed a different side of Jon. I knew she was probably doomed from the start but it didn't keep me from hoping that she might just survive. Her death was, for me, almost sadder than the Red Wedding. I never really liked Catelyn or Robb all that much.

Another one which was kinda depressing was Ygritte's. If she had lived though, I think Jon would have accepted Stannis' offer without hesitation and taken her for wive and been Lord of Winterfell,

I think Jon would have been much more inclined to consider it. I don't know if he would have actually done it because of his sense of Honor and Duty but I think it would have been a harder choice.

No. My birthday is in 2 weeks and I asked for the last 2 books so I'm w/o any ASOIAF for a couple weeks :( lol. I've read the past 3 books almost back to back so I'm in the groove now of doing that. I can't wait for AFFC though.

Well, I liked Oberyn Martell since the moment we got introduced to him. Intelligent, pretty witty and being insane from a need of revenge. HE seemed like an awesome warrir too, and I really wished for him to get his revenge. Then I think we lost The Hound too soon. just when he was starting to redeem himself and got interesting, Arya left him. Now his faith is left open so i hope we get to see more of him in the future, he can be an important piece in this story. His ruffled side softly was tendering because of a ten year old girl. Their travels were some of the best in the book, and SAndor is a great character.

But Ygritte was the sadest, got a little tear in the eye when she said "you know nothing".

The mother and the king in the north was shocking, even though i knew that would happen.

Beric left us too, but that wasn't too soon i guess, he has played his part and made the brotherhood without banners manage very good in the riverlands i guess.

That is propably my thoughts on it

I am most sad that it could be the end of The Hound, I felt like we had really been pulled through different emotions and feelings about him and were learning more all the time. I loved his relationship with Arya and would have been happy reading more of them together...but maybe it's not the end?! Also, although I felt a real sense of foreboding leading up to the Red Wedding I was surprised that two such big characters went so quickly. I was sad to see Robb go but better him than Jon for me. Still, it was a pretty brilliant scene wasn't it?
