the bosox have just been swept by the o's in a 16 inning stunner. the best of it was seeing the respective designated hitters of each team on  the mound. watching a dh pitch its just comical.

Actually, Chris Davis looked great. He threw 90mph and had a pretty sick change up.

As soon as Lindblom pitched the 7th i knew that is where we were headed.  I can only assume he has some incriminating photos of Rick Honeycutt

One of the best baseball games I ever watched! Wow. Well, maybe not "best" in terms of quality of play, but certainly the craziest...

The best record in MLB on this night belongs to the Baltimore Orioles. What a world. No way it lasts. What fun it is for now!

I can't be the only one thinking it looks like that guy really had to use the bathroom.

I know, this has been just brutal.  Gonzalez in particular had really been off to a hot start, it sucks to see him go down like that, and Gamel had been exceeding all expectations as well.  I guess it's gonna have to be Izturas at SS (Maysonet backing him up) and likely a Green/Ishikawa committee at 1B (Green is primarily a 3B, but has plenty of 1B experience and Ramirez has been getting into a groove recently).  Hopefully Gomez can bounce back quickly, his bat has been red hot (not to mention being such an asset defensively), Morgan has been awful so far and Aoki hasn't done anything to impress me (plus they're both lefties, and Morgan in particular really struggles to hit left-handed pitching).

Then there's been our bullpen problem, particularly K-Rod who's been off to an absolutely abysmal start so far (Axford is still a joy to watch, if only we could get more leads going into the 9th).

I'm excited to see what Green can do when given a shot - no shortage of potential there - and some of our pitching prospects look solid and it'll be good to give them some innings in the majors, but it definitely puts a damper on our prospects for repeating in the NL Central with so many starters getting Out for Season'd.

Ah, a fellow Brewer fan!

The most frustrating thing so far (well...one of the most) has been Braun. The guy has looked amazing and terrible in turns. I have seen him strike out three times in a game more this season than I can remember watching him do it the rest of his career. I think he is trying to do too much really. Make up for the loss of Prince, show people he is not a cheater etc etc...

He is still having a fine season so far, so don't get me wrong but you can see him trying to do so much more now. I hope when Ramirez and Weeks and Hart and everyone else get going he can relax and be more himself. The recent spat of injuries are probably not going to help that along though. It will be interesting to see what all shakes out by the end.

The other crazy thing...our pitching staff. Greinke and Marcum have been great so far this year...everyone else? Not so much. What the hell happened to Yo? And why is Dillard still on the staff? K-rod? Not so much.

Damnit, I was hoping Pujols would never hit another home run ever again.

Seriously?  I haven't seen much of him since he went west, but he was always steady and reliable out of that Cubs rotation.  Not ace stuff, but just chewing up innings and keeping the team in games.  Always seemed a solid starter.

Zito makes me feel the same way. That being said, both are posting ERA's below 2.00. You have to give 'em credit.

2 of 3 over the weekend from those Dodgers and now a legitimate win over Atlanta tonight?  If only it weren't the Cubs...it might feel like a little more...but we'll take wins when we can get them.

Does anyone use the gamecast feature on ESPN.com?  I've been using it off and on for years, and it feels like they've made it tons better this year.  They'll link a highlight of a big play a bit after which they didn't used to do.  And they get random stats and comments from bloggers or media people for the respective teams.  Not as good as actually having the game on the tube, but it's a much improved alternative to what it's been for the last few years.

ETA:  They just mentioned the two wildcard slots now available.  I keep forgetting this whenever I look at standings and do the whole "If the playoffs started today" thing.

Beezy is dodging bullets out there. 5 hits and 3 BBs in 5 innings and still only 1 earned run.

OK, baseball fans.  I have a scenario for you:

You have an upstart young starting pitcher who is surprising even you with a 5-0 record and a 1.60 ERA.  You are on the road against a solid team and good pitcher.  Your offense catches fire, and you get a 7-0 lead while your starter continues to pitch great with a shutout through 5 with 7 K's.  Do you leave him in, or do you take him out?  His pitch count is 91, and you have no reason to believe that he can't log innings.  The final piece of information is that your middle-relief is average at best.
